Evening all ! been reading your forum with interest over the last couple of days. Dont think I have ever known such a blinkered view of a match (on most of your's part !!).
If you REALLY think that City play dirty and hoofball you must need to go to specsavers the same as your manager. Just be gracious in defeat (as I will be if it doesnt go our way tomorrow) and admit that the better team on the day and season did a number on you and you didnt have an answer to it.
I keep hearing that the pressure is on us ?? Dec 05 Johnson took over, City were bottom of league one, May 08 were playing to get in the top tier of english football, thats not pressure, thats fun !!!!
The Gate will be rocking and waiting for you tomorrow. |

| I agree that we were incredibly ungracious about are defeat (or atleast a minority were) and i think that some of Warnocks comments were unnecesary and made in the heat of the moment. I think that you came down to Selhurst with harsh but fair tactics that we were ourselves using earlier this season! I will be at Ashton Gate tommorow and will see you there! Good Luck (you know what i mean!) |

| I admit you were the better team on Saturday but you were also dirty and played a lot of long ball. I said to the guy next to me after the first bad tackle on Moses in the first few minutes "if the ref don't clamp down on that he will be getting that treatment all game" and it proved right |

On the day yes but all season debatable, if we hadn't had Taylor in charge for the first few months we would have probably been a sizeable number of points ahead of you |

I've seen all 3 games this year and your by far the dirtiest side in this division, you tried to kick us off our game. The worst football is Watford that I've seen and whilst I agree that we are not a great team we always have tried to play the right way under Warnock. If you think we're dirty look at the squad, bunch of friggin kids that would run a mile. We only have Derry you shower of shite have 10 who's only intent is gbh or those sneaky pushes. Oh and a fat twat of a manager. |

At the OP, I think most Palace fans have acknowledged that you deserved the win on Sat, you had a game plan and it worked, we never got going. But don't give us bollocks about what a squeaky clean game it was. |

I'm glad you know David Noble's game so well. He has scored some screamers before, although I must admit perhaps not one quite as good as that, especially considering the magnitude of the game. |

| All I'm saying is their goals didn't occur from open play. And they were lucky in a sense that the ball went to the top corner on both goals out of Jules' reach, both perfect shots which could have gone wide on a different occasion. They didn't score the goals because they played awesome, just that they took two good shots on goal. |

I think city played well on saturday and was probably the best away performance ive seen at selhurst this season since watford but us in october.
I dont think you were overly dirty, couple of bad ones buts its a playoff game, thats what you expect I actually agree with you that I think warnock moaned too much, particularly when he himself usually likes his team to bully the opposition
Have to say though Bristol city did enough moaning when we kicked them when we won 2-0 so your not always gracious in defeat.
I said before I thought we'd struggle to beat you because weve changed from a physical side to a pacey passing side (not that we got it going much on saturday) and I think your more vunerable against the former, unfortunately weve lost out only target man.
I do have to say though that Bristol city fans are quite annoying, they seem to think they are gods gift to the championship but in reality they only just finished the season with a positive goal difference so they really arent that great.
Yes you beat us 2-1 but it took a wonder strike to beat us and thats about the worst weve played under warnock |

My view (as posted on otib.co.uk)
Another Palace fan here...
Haven't had time to read the whole thread, but regarding the long ball issue, as far as I saw it, City kept the ball on the ground and played very tidy football. City's dominance in midfield (where they had two men to our three) meant that we had to resort to more direct tactics, which played into McCombe's hands.
I don't think we underestimated City at all, we knew you were strong and so it proved. Watson and Soares, two of our strongest performers in recent weeks, were not at the races (Carle and Elliott played their part in this). And, of course, you nullified Moses and Sinclair, which is no mean feat. Orr and McAlister were tremendous throughout, but I hope that Moses' early substitution means that he will be fired up for Tuesday.
I would say that we probably can't play much worse than we did yesterday so be ready for one last big performance on Tuesday. You are now favourites but we are not going to roll over and you will have to put in another big display if you are to make Wembley.
Finally though, congratulations on yesterday's result. You played the conditions and the occasion far better than we did and the best team won. |
|
|
| ugly and fat |
| do you think having a "stronger" ref is going to affect EITHER of the teams tactics? |
|
|
| stevek |
| In the first 25 minutes, when the game was pretty end to end, City tripped Moses and Sinclair on several occasions - and a different ref might have got a card out which would have stopped those tactics. But after that, City took control; stopped our supply to the wingers and forced us to resort to long (and ineffective) balls. City scored two cracking goals and we got a lucky penalty. |
|
|
| zonin2000 |
| Also, I don't get the hatred of Johnson. Well I do, we're football fans and that's what we do (see City's hatred of Warnock) but what has he actually done wrong? I mean really wrong, what you would be annoyed with if Warnock had done? |

The excitement is definitely there, after all you had a marvelous season.
We played bad due to Warnock's system that was so obvious that it would be a crime for Bristol not to play accordingly. You were well organized and Johnson did well in analyzing Palace's play. You have to admit that luck was on your side though, especially with those shots. I'm not having a go, but a 90th minute goal from 30 yards out is a bit lucky in my opinion.
Tomorrow is going to be different as Warnock will try something unexpected to break Bristol. |

Disappointed in the targeting of the youngsters. And disappointed with the way you 'celebrated' at the end. A QPR fan at my work was at the game and he thought it was 'out of order, and disrespectful'. It wasn't us being bad losers.
Best team won. But you played at 110%, you were superb and you won with goal the didn't win the lottery it won Euromillions. We will play tomorrow with no pressure as you are fully expected to progress now. It's fair to say if you progress now you will fully deserve it, and we would have earnt it if we manage to turn it around.

Have to admit that I thought that BC were the better team on saturday - I think we would have been very lucky to have got away with a 1-1, and for that reason if it had have finished 1-1, I would have had us as favourites going into the second leg.
As it is you have to say we are now underdogs.
I was very impressed, and a bit surprised with how well BC played, I don't really buy the over-physical argument. I do feel that there were one or two free kicks that we should of had but didn't and maybe they were a bit lucky to have gotten away with a yellow card or two.
Have to disagree with the spposed red though - think that would have been harsh.
Also agree that BC were a little direct at times, but it was effective - they looked dangerous, and they did mix it up with some good passing at times and you have to say two superb goals.
If BC play as well tomorrow I think we will struggle, but hopefully they won't - its always a bit difficult to get fully over the line. Also feel we can only play better.
Lets hope for some more fun and games tomorrow, and of course a palace win at the end of it! |

Tackle them, have them in your pcoket for 90 mins, but stop them at all costs even if you get a yellow. Bit disappointing. But I suppose we should take it as a compliment, as last September opposition full-backs were barely breaking sweat.

You came to Selhurst with a very physical gameplan and it worked, there is nothing to be ashamed about it. Our team has much different emphasis from when we played you early on in the season. Playing Pompey 30 years ago is'nt really going to compare with playing Pompey now. As a little clue the current Pompey have a good chance of winning the FA Cup and vould be playing in Europe next season. Playing Pompey 30 years ago is'nt really going to compare with playing Pompey now. As a little clue the current Pompey have a good chance of winning the FA Cup and vould be playing in Europe next season. Its a bloody big game for us too as if we win we have a much better chance of not getting our talented youngsters asset stripped away from us.
Moron. You've obviously come on here on the wind up. So I shall leave you to it.
Name calling is all good and that, bored now but if you re read the posts I think I did say it is the biggest game. As it probably is for you to. |

I went all the way to Stoke for an away fan's funeral.
I got respect from Vale (including a director driving me to the station)
I got respect from Palace.
And you are bringing to the party - what exactly??? |

Having a laugh, we've had more big games then you have had hot dinners. Seen Bristol 5x (3x vs us, 2x on TV), and you play the most dirty, uneducated, bullying, hoofball I've ever seen, so don't try to hide under the we play football bushel you don't.

| Oh and is your mob the ultras, who on their last visit seemed to consist of 11 and 12 year olds too young to get into the pub and stood outside trying not to look scared? |

| come on guys we were beaten by the better team on the day with 2 goals out of the top draw that's it! No excuses they were sharper and their game plan worked. We for our part got dragged in to the way they wanted to play and they were better at it. Let's hope that we play how we know we can and if we do we will get the result we need. But if we get drawn in to their style we'll be in trouble. And you know what if at the end of the night we dont make it then they would have beaten us fair and square over 2 legs but it won't be the end of the world this squad is going to set the world alight look at the ages and think how much better this team will be in the next season or two. And bow much stronger for the experience. Have faith the eagle will fly high soon! |

Indeed.
I really shouldn't get drawn into silly arguments.
Please God I don't later.
I worry myself. But not as much as I worry my partner. |

With our away record and your poor defence it should be very interesting, especially if you get a couple of bookings like you deserved to get on Saturday.
We are expecting a real Palace performance tonight worthy of the occasion.
We are like a wounded animal whose pride has been hurt and therefore very dangerous.
Palace love being underdogs as it usually brings out the best in us and Neil will have the boys chomping at the bit to keep our season alive.
I can remember us losing a first leg Play-off 1-3 at Blackburn and then we won 3-0 in the return leg to get promoted !!!! |

| I'll admit to having had a soft spot for City since I worked with Chris Honor's sister and also when Jamie Smith went there. however, tonight that's all out the window. Very much depoends on what sort of gameplan City turn up with. Palace know what they have to do, but City have choices to make. Sit back and soak up the pressure or take the game to palace and try and extend their lead at the risk of being caught on the break. I wouldn't like to be making those choices. It's bum twitching time for the Bristolites :) |

Thought you played well tonight, if the penalty had gone in think it may have been curtains for us, fine margins !!
Just a bit more quality upfront saw us through, and over the two legs it was probably the right result.
Probably see you next season.
P.S. if its true somebody thumped warnock hope he gets banned for life, apologies from B.C.F.C |
