My first birthday, and my parents left me to go to Wembley!

We should have had it sewn up in the first match. The way the FA allowed them to get away with Les Sealey for no other reason than the fact that Jim Leighton was crap still leaves a nasty taste.

Was my eldest son's 12th birthday. We had a party on the coach going up to Wembley, cake and all. He had a rotten birthday really, never forget his tears at the end of the game.

Yesterday he reached 30, just hope we do not have to wait another 18years to get back to Wembley and win it this time.

Poor lad has been following and suffering Palace for 26 years now, since his first game. Perhaps I should give myself up to the NSPCC:o

Just edited Wikipedia as it had the date of the replay as 26/5/90!

Look, we should have won the first match. We didn't turn up for the second. I still remember the first match and the second is an irrelevance. I suppose many would say to hold the cup is the thing but let's face it IW scoring the way he did in the first match was just fantastic and that's what we should hold on to. Utd were humbled.

My memories of the replay are negligible, since we had seats eight rows from the front (i.e. those backless benches) and consequently couldn't see a ••••••• thing.

Psycho is right about the Leighton/Sealy thing - sadly not the last time Palace gots shafted by outrageous rule changes solely for the benefit of a big club.

At the age of 9 it was already obvious to me that football was corrupt. From that moment on winning trophies, qualifying for Europe, keeping hold of future England captains all seemed secondary to the true entertainment and family feeling of Crystal Palace FC.

For me it's been about 17 year olds from Norbury doing things with a football I could never dream of and my friends never even knowing who he is. Or it's signings from Barnet scoring 25 goals to get us promoted. Or it's talking of 14 year olds as England Captains then uniting as a club when he is poached away after 3hrs 21mins.

Add to that the fact that is was a dead cert Fergie would have got the sack if they had lost and the last 18 years would have had a very different non Man U tilt to the them, Leeds would have probably dominated...

Ditto that. :veryangry :veryangry :veryangry
All this is making me feel like watching those games again for the first time in nearly 18 years. The thing is, if I do i know it's going to take me ages to get over the anger again (not that I ever have). It's painful enough living with the memories.

If I could change one moment in our history it would be that bloody ricochet that fell to Hughes to equalise. In my changed world it would bounce out for a throw & the last 7 minutes would fizzle out with no dramas, we'd have won the cup 3-2, Wrighty is the hero & Geoff would go up to lift the FA cup.

Really horrible summer, England losing on pens too, when your 14 & awkward.. philosophical about it now

Our cup final and the West Ham v Scouse affair a couple of years back are just about the only notable finals in the last two decades.

I still remember much of the day vividly:

*It was a hazy day, very squinty

*The seats were crap with tiny leg room

*The view was further obscured by the still existing Perimeter fencing

*Mancs outnumbered us by about 4 to one - or so it seemed

*I Remember it kicking off at Baker street and rumours of gas canisters - may have been replay

*Abide with me was sung by the crowd. How it should be, not ruined by two bitches on microphones - I'll go to covent Garden if I want opera.

*Ditto national anthem

*The two teams came out to the roar of the crowd, not a decibelic PA system that ruins any chance of an atmosphere nowadays - despite what John Motson may say.

* We were bloody nosiy

* Everyone knew that we would let in the equaliser, it's just what we did, and still do.

* When Wrighty scored the eqalizer I clasped hands with the local barber near Selhurst Park called Enzo( used to have a shop next to March hair)

*First and last time I saw my dad sing a Palace song!
