Austria-Switzerland 2008
Join now on this thread and you will be assigned a national team (by random). Please also add suggestions for the format if you have any..
Just 20 days to go!
We are for the most parts following the regular BM rules*, but with a few changes:
Format suggestion
First of all group stages. Just like the European Cup, the best 2 from each group goes through to the next round. Only bets on the EC is allowed.
Each contestant gets picked (by random) one of the national teams competing in the European cup 2008. And then they have to do 5 bets related to there team (can bet against them and so on). Shouldn’t be a problem finding bets as there will be 50+ bets possible to do on any one game in the EC.
After the league stage the people with most points go through (top 2). They are then up against a person from another group so
Number of bets:
Group stages (x participants): 07-18.June – 20 bets (15+5) – 24 games to bet on.
2. Stage (16): 19-22.June - 8 bets – 4 games
3. Stage (8): 25-31.July – 5 bets – 3 games (combining the semis and final..because just betting on one game would be a bit difficult to handle. Will mean a 4 man final match).
A little bit depending on number of entries...for the WC ’06 we had 32 contestants! If more than 16 join, then we will just deal with that..no problems:)
Do will still want this in the competiton?:
In addition to the regular bets, one can also do 2 “long-term” bets.
1. Who do you think will win the EC?
2. Top scorer?
These bets will only come into play if you are one of the 4 finalists.
Bets have to be placed before the start of the tournament.

Oii just watch it, or you'll get Switzerland for your troubles:o
How's the mood down there? Really getting ready for it, or? |

No one gets excited about anything in Geneva.
Except for the Portuguese, they have a massive community here and I live right in the middle of it. So it's all about Portugal for me. |

I'm in as well. At least I'm not on hols for this compo.
How many bets do we have? And 5 must be on games involving our own team, as well as two long-range bets? |

Yeah..still up for debate..but that's the format we used for the WC '06. 20 bets (5 betting on your teams matches) in the group stages (24 games) and 8 in the knock-out stages (with just 4 and 3 games to bet on). |

Will go to Portugal v Turkey in Geneva. Really wanted to go to Portugal v Czech Republic but I have to travel with work that week.
I was still living in Australia for EURO2004 but came across to Portugal with a few mates and went to all the Czech Republic matches. When they got knocked out in the last minute of the semi I got onto the internet on the way from the ground to the pub and booked a ticket to fly to Geneva the next morning to catch up with an old girlfriend in the couple of days I had to spare before heading to Hamburg for a wedding. Ended up getting more than I bargained for and here I am in Geneva four years later with a baby and another one on the way in October. |

Not sure I understand the question. But you could have 20 different bets on the Swiss if you want..but 5 of the 20 bets HAS TO BE on the Swiss matches. Any bet involving the Swiss matches. You can bet against them and so on.. |
|
|

| Just for clarification, all the bets that we do in this competition have to be involving Euro 2008, correct? |
