| The Euro 2008 sweepstake thread? Did it break the rules? |
| stevey_d |
| Just wanted to know the same thing really? |
| GodstoneEagle |
| Think it must have done? I asked Sunny Fan to check if it was OK and he said he'd check with the mods. |
| Sunny Fan |
| Afraid it's been pulled after a few days' discussion. Have explained in a PM. |
| GodstoneEagle |
| All seems fair to me. |
| stevey_d |
| Could I have a copy of that PM? Because I was hotly-tipped by several bookies to run away with it, despite not even being assigned a team yet. |
| lanepe |
| Did we have enough participants so that we could just do it by PM or email? |
| AJ's right boot |
| Could i have the PM too or could you post it here? Other wise Godderrs could you forward it to me?? |
| Super-Ste-Cious |
| Same here. |

| GodstoneEagle |
| I've roughly outlined the reasons why it was removed to those that have requested the information. If anyone else wants to know then PM me but it's a completely legit reason. |
| stevey_d |
| I concur with the Mods I suppose. I would also like it to be known that I definately had this one in the bag! ; ) |
| Psychokiller |
| You could always set up a blog and discuss it on there? |

There's no mystery here.
It was pointed out to us that 'hosting' an online sweepstake in this manner might contravene the Lotteries Act and/or may require some sort of gaming promoters license to be first granted by the local authority, and so it was pulled whilst we look into it further.

| Actually, if any BBS'r has a good working knoweldge of the provisions of the Act and can advise us further, please pm. |
| Sick Bucket |
| If you do a sweepstake just for fun, so no money involved surely that's fine isn't it? |

Absolutely, although i was wondering if it was kind of the same as a raffle as it isn't gambling as such is it? |

There's a few grey areas here including whether using the BBS as the medium to promote your sweepstake actually makes the BBS, not you, the Promoter in the eyes of the law and therefore possibily opens us up to some liability.
There is, of course, the other important issue of how Dave might feel about it, but he's on his hols at the mo. |

| Yeah I saw him, I guess they must have the internet in Portugal now ;) however, he hasn't been posting in the mods forum for a while. I'm sure he'll get to it when he's back from hols. |

Too much superbock for anything vaguely sensible. My problem with these things is the sending of cash to individuals rather than the liability of the bbs.
Actually that was kinda sensible |

| Yeah, seems fair. |

| Hmmm, Superbock. |
