I dunno why, but I was thinking back to the goal Lombardo scored against Everton, after a neat one-two with Warhurst as I recall.
The question is, does anyone know where to get a legal video clip of it? I want to show my buddy who only recently got interested in football.
Or for that matter a clip of the Hopkin winner in the play-off final against the Blades?
I must admit I haven't searched for them at all, laziness I suppose, but there it is. |

| The obvious answer would have to be youtube. Try there as first port of call. |

Pretty sure that Lombardo scored a quality goal against Dirty Leeds.
What a player he was! I don't think I realied how good he was back then (I was only 8). Its crazy that we managed to get him in, but what was better is that he genuinely seemed to love the club.
It shows on the Centenary DVD that he still has 'feelings' for us. |

Thanks for the Hopkin goal. I remember being on pins and needles that whole game, with butterflies going crazy in my stomach. So nervous, and watching that goal again still gives me a chill up my spine!
:lux:
I agree, I remember Lombardo being good, but the more I look back on it, the more I realize just how class he really was for us. Amazing player. |

...got us off to a cracking start that season. Everything was rosy, till in true Palace fashion we lost at home to Barnsley 2 days later :sob: |

| I think goal where Lombardo linked up with Warhurst was against Leeds and featured in Match of the Day's Goal of the Month competition. The Everton goal was a favourite of mine though as he hit a neat little flick shot past the keeper. |

That Everton away game was probably one of my favourite away games.
First game of the season, sun shining, beers, loads of Palace up there, Lombardo in a Palace shirt, cracking atmosphere. It had a bit of everything!
I remember Jolly and Roberts completely dominating the midfield, Lombardo was brilliant, for that moment we looked class and I think we might have been top come the end of the day.
And like Gumball said, typical Palace, 1-0 defeat against Barnsley a few days after. |

Carried on being rosy for some time after that - we were 11th after we beat Spurs at the Lane in November. I'll plump for Zohar's penalty v Southampton as the point it turned sour. |

Things began going a bit pear shaped when a certain wanker in red braces went on television proudly announcing that he would be replacing the manager with Terry Venables as soon as he could. We then became farcical. |

| Didn't Goldberg help financially towards the Lombardo deal? I remember the press stating he wanted a butler etc. A drawn out transfer saga, but a surreal signing. |

being bombarded with hate from the leeds fan, and watching Gary Kelly clearing from defence, and catching Brolin's head (wapped in bandage) and blood pouring. The highlight on a miserable 2-0 defeat. |

Palace fans love jumping on a badwagon that slags of any former player. What was wrong with Brolin? Overweight? Yep. Not the player he was? Yep. But he still had his place on merit - unless any of the Brolin slaggers think that there was a better option on the bench?
Well - do ya, punk?
BTW - PK is 100% right about the person who started the rot that season. It was February, we had a decent chance of avoiding relegation and Goldberg goes public to completely undermine Coppell's position.

| I remember seeing on Ceefax that we had signed Lombardo while at my mother-in-law's and being absolutely gobsmacked. I really thought we'd got back in the big time with that one :sob: |

Brolin played really well in his first two games then became a laughing stock. Particulary against Leeds at home.
But look at them now :p |

Indeed. Couldn't agree more. Despite his then limitations Brolin still deserved his place. I thought with Lombardo and Brolin in the side we had a chance. But then the great Goldberg pops up and the wheels come off. And there was Zohar of course and don't get me started on Padavano...... |

Yep, the abandoned game against West Ham was another turning point. |

Lombardo - The most amazing signing in our history and probably the greatest ever player to wear the shirt.
To be honest he was far too good for us. Every other player was at least 3 seconds behind him in terms of a footballing brain. The only ones who seemed to be able to play with him were Jansen and Curcic. People like Dyer, Roberts, Shipperley, Emblen, etc.. were just not on his wavelength.
He was a great player and one signing which I still can't quite believe to this day. |

That in my opinion was when it went horribly wrong.
To be fair though West Ham were all over us before the lights went out and had just equalised. I think they would have won the game but they wouldn't have humiliated us the way they did in the replay. |

I take it you weren't at Anfield where he ran the midfield for us that day? |
