Anyone watch this race? There has to be some questions asked after this one.
Strathclyde Eagle
I think after what happened with Barbaro and Eight Belles there was a lot of pressure to bring him home healthy. He'd had hoof problems too. I'm no expert (far from it) but I'd guess that would have to be a contributory factor, his jockey just said he was out of gas.

Good post. The Belmont is also the longest of the 3 races (I believe).

The hoof injury was suely playing on at least the jockey's mind, if not the horse's.

If he wasn't going to win with a furlong to go, why take the risk.

There are some pretty conclusive photographs showing up on the TV sports shows here, and in the papers showing a shoe half hanging off of one of Big Browns real hoofs during the race.

Not sure why it was not obvious after the race.... but would explain his actions during the Belmont.

Because the trainer, Rick Dutrow, would rather blame the jockey than accept the fact the horse was not in a condition to win the race. If he hadn't opened his big mouth guaranteeing a victory, he probably would have less heat on him.

I heard yesterday, he has another horse with drug problems incurring him fines.

There were stills from the race showing that Big Browns horseshoe had become detatched and as a result nails would have been digging into his hoof.

Dont know about the drugs
