| I remember the game. First game for Paul Hammond in goal. Goals by Kellard & Wallace. Alan Hansen played for them. |

| I went but have no recollection of the match or why it was played (don't recall us signing anyone from Partick Thistle). It was a midweek fixture so not a match to fill in an empty saturday. Anyone know why it was played? |

| That day was a Saturday ........ maybe it was free because we'd been knocked out of the FA Cup? |

| You're right, we'd been knocked out of the cup by Everton; our scheduled league opponents must have still been in the cup (it was the 5th round that day). |

It should have been Derby County at home but they were playing Arsenal in the FA Cup. |

Why did we play a Scottish team? - these days clubs would be glad of the mid-season break, not trying to squeeze in a friendly.
And why did we sign so many Scots in those days?.....
Roger Hynd, John Laughran, Charlie Cooke, Gerry Queen, John McCormick, John Hughes, Willie Wallace....... off the top of my head |

According to the Partick Thistle programme notes Palace first tried to bring forward the Easter Monday home game against Leicester but they would not agree.
Palace did also try to play Partick on the Friday evening but a power dispute forbade the use of floodlights (this was 2 years before THAT problem in early 1974).
The programme also says Palace had initially rearranged the Derby game for the following Wednesday afternoon (again because of the power dispute) but decided an evening later in the season (when hopefully it would have been resolved) would attract a larger audience! |

| I seem to remember us playing Hibs at home some point in the mid to late 70's as well. |

| I think Arsenal played Derby in the FAC 5th round replay at Highbury on Tues 29th Feb with an afternoon kick off, if I remember there were more midweek afternoon kick offs in 1974 with the strikes then, I'm sure Rochdale entertained Cambridge and there was only about 450 in attendance, also I think Shrewsbury hosted the clowns - about 850! at least Palace were lucky not to have a midweeker home or away at this time, just the 2000 or so at Tranmere last game of 74/75 is the post war low I think. |
