Wow, harsh hard course!

Anyways, after the first few holes today ive backed

Luke Donald
Justin Rose
Geoff Ogilvy
Nick Dougherty
Beckenham Boy
I'm on

Mickelson @ 7/1
Ames @ 66/1
Stenson @ 66/1
Ogilvy (without Woods) @ 25/1

Ogilvy and Mickelson right in it after round 1 and Ames still in touching distance but needs to stay tight. Stenson out of it already.

A lot of big Europeans had bad 1st days - Rose, Casey, Stenson, Harrington, Poulter, Dougherty and Monty all hit 78 or worse
Golf Boy
I've got Woods, Westwood, Karlson, Els ( 55-1!). I've just backed the three unknowns at the top of the leaderboard at 170-1. They won't choke just yet so i'll have time to lay them lower odds.
Golf Boy
Any BBs'ers going to The Open this BTW?
Golf Boy
78 doesn't put you out of the tournement BTW.

It does with Mickelson shooting 71 and Woods shooting 72 IMO

I should be there. Just sorting out some corporate hospitallity :D
Lord_Muffin
By the way. I saw you can get 100/1 on Goosen. That seems like a good each way to me.

There is only one "The Open"

And its not in the US
Hedgehog
Jez... what an increadable finishing 2 holes by Tiger. Is it luck or skill... I'm never too sure.

I don't fancy Lee Westwood's chances tomorrow.

He bottled it on hte 18th today just thinking about it.
Del Martian
Like him or not, Tiger is a one of a kind player. No other player constantly comes up with the absurdly incredible shots at clutch moments time and time again. Westwood has to stay focused on his game and the course and try not to get caught up in everything Tiger!
Hedgehog - I pass the freeway exit everyday on my way to work; the course is only 4 miles from my house so I guess the US Open is on my home course!

When I went past Wednesday, I was looking out for any sign of the course, but it is pretty well hidden from the freeway.

I imagine the traffic back-ups will give it away at this time!

I see they have tightened the course and added some more bunkers, have played the course 4 times and only once when the sun was out, on another occasion, put away my rain suit and it raining and sleeted over the last three holes :(

Will be there on the Saturday and Sunday, having spent the previous six days in Ireland, Scotland and England with seven friends playing a few holes and drinking a few beers :p

I'm there Sat and Sun too.

It is nice to see a British player who hasnīt slipped out of contention the third round. Great last putt from Woods yesterday, lucky sod on the 17th.

It is a privelige to watch the Tiger, though. The greatest of all time.

Westwood has a lot of experience, letīs see if he can hold it together in the shoot out today.

He is saying all the right things in the paper today, but looking at his last putt on 18 yesterday, I reckon he has an uphill battle.

He has a good record in the Ryder Cup one on one against Tiger, but for some odd reason no one seems to be able to carry this over to the majors.

I don't think I have ever seen one player not look intimidated playing with Tiger on the last day, and I've yet to see Tiger look anything like intimidated by a playing partner full stop.

The guy is a robot.
AJ's right boot
Westwood is winning!! Hold on lee!! :lux:
Chester
He'd be a lot further ahead if he could hole a putt too

Wheels starting to come off :(
PeterH
Yep. Looks like Tiger again.
Chester
Everyone doing their best to make it an entertaining final couple of holes
Chester
Fact of the day. Tiger will have to finish in the top 10 of every major from now through the 2019 season to match the number of major top 10 finishes of Jack Nicklaus
Chester
Tiger is a machine. Is there a better clutch person
PalaceFan in Alabama
Shame I was hoping for Westwood to make it.
Hedgehog
Westwood hung in pretty good today, better than I exspected. In fact in match play format I think he would have beat him.... shame that is not what they were playing.
Chester
Yep, shame for Westwood. Just couldnt find the hole today.

Tiger played awful down the stretch too. Shows what a good grinder he is
PeterH
Dare I say the difference between the two players was those final putts. It sums up why one consistently wins majors and the other hasnīt won one.

Westwood could have taken charge by putting his chance on the 11th. He held in well, though. Rocco was a refreshing player to watch. What a gentleman.
Golf Boy
It's not over. I have a sneaky suspicion that Rocco will take it -- i've just backed him at 4.2
SamTheOldGoat
Going to be great today!
Super-Ste-Cious
Fell asleep 2nd shot into the 18th, after watching most of the round. Sucks for Westwood.

Have always had an in built hate of Mediate, however thought in his pre final round interview he came over as a really nice guy and not the smug journeyman pro I had taken him for.

That said I have backed Tiger at 7/2, first time I think I have ever had money on him, and fully expect Mediate to melt under the pressure of playing with him as most tend to do. Thank god it's an early start though!!

I am f ucking tired. The US Open should not be allowed to be played on the west coast.
Finbar
Oh yeah you're ahead of the uk so it's even worse for you!

should be done and dusted by 10pm UK time, am fine with that

Plus you are a golf pro so you deserve the odd inconvenience :D

You've picked the right days for seeing most golf -- the field is twice as big and there are less spectators.

I was at Carnoustie last year for the wednesday, thursday and friday. Luckily the PGA have their own hospitality tent so we could always sit down for a breather and watch a bit on the telly with a pint.

I also managed to get access to the practice facilities and was literally as close to Tiger as Steve Williams, watching him practice for an hour. Fantastic. When you get that close you can really can see the technical perfection. He didn't hit one poor shot for a whole hour.

The others that really impressed me were Garcia and Mclroy and Daly.

Poulter = c unt.

I am going for the final two days this time more for the atmosphere than learning from the best.
Beckenham Boy
Do you think Mediate is worthwhile at 11/4?

You know you're in for a long night when leaders tee off at midnight.

I've got him at 4.2 on betfair. he's now 14/5.

But i'm looking for him to get a fast start at which point i will sell the bet at much less odds.. If he gets a slow start his odds will shoot out disproportionately and i will back him again.

11/4 doesn't sound all that great as a single bet for him to win, but 1/3 isn't that great on Woods -- it's golf and anything can happen which is why i bet during a tournement as the odds swing much further than a players realistic chances at the time -- especially concerning Woods

Personally I would be stunned and amazed if he manages to win from the off never going behind so if you are going to back him then in running is the way to go I reckon, if he goes 1 down early on you will be able to get 6/1 or bigger on him.

GB, thought you were in Copenhagen which is only 1hr in front of the UK? If you were up till 5am ish then you really do have my sympathy!!

Poulter baffles me, the clothes he wears makes you think he must be a complete extravert, then you hear him speak and it turns out he's almost entirely devoid of any personality!! Mind you americans hate him so he can't be all bad

I am looking forward to it, my old man is 60 this year which is why we are going, his favourite player is Woosie so we will follow him round for part of it (assuming he is playing) and then find a spot and watch the different groups come through, has anyone been to Birkdale and knows a good spot to do that?

Are you aware of how short that man is? LOL.

Padraig was a lot bigger than i thought, but i thpought Goosen was the same height as Els. He's no taller than me! It's funny how dofferent people look on the telly compared to real life.
Finbar
Went to the races on Saturday so was fast asleep by the time Appelby melted (annoying as I had backed him at 100/1), but I think you're right as the paper said the UK coverage lasted till 3am

Your dad likes watching pissed up midgets??

( although twenty years ago he was the best player in the world ).
StuNick
The leaders went out at 11pm on Saturday but for some reason it was 9:30 last night, still had to stay up until 2am to watch them finish.
StuNick
I think my old man likes the fact he isn't physically fit and still plays some great golf (well used to more than does now)

Got to agree with you there GB. I used to play in the same county team as him. He was average at best. How he made it as pro is still beyond me.
GUCCI Eagle
Can't believe he walked off the course after missing that gimme.

Apparently Rose is quite tall - although I always suspected that after seeing him on tv.

HAd to smile last night when Woods took 4 and hadn't even reached the green on the first. I had my left knee reconstructed - know how he feels about his front leg.
Finbar
In fairness to Poulter it's not like he's blagged his way to the US Masters!!

Now there's an event I would love to see...
Lord_Muffin
Got some money on Rocco and also having a fiver on there being an eagle in the round at 5/2.

The 'Count' without an 'o'.

I've actually never spoken to him but he seems like an utter c unt. Very arrogant ( he may just be shy though! )

Nope. He's arrogant. He was a off 1 when I played with him. The arrogance it what has got him this far. He always believed he was good enough.
GUCCI Eagle
I wish I could believe myself into going to the majors.

Els could so easily have won yesterday. He'll be kicking himself.
StuNick
Yep, and I had him each way at 20's, with anyone elses putting he would have at least made the playoff
Chester
Woods by two after 7. www.channelsurfing.net for those like me are pretending to work
Chester
Wheels coming off for Rocco now. Tiger cant miss a putt either
Finbar
Hmm Tiger has only hit 4 GIRs and is level, impressive but potential that he may still drop a few shots. I have backed Rocco at 14.0 just before Tigers tee shot found the bunker.

Rocco needs a wild Tiger drive now
bunghole
Tiger's playing VERY ordinary golf right now.
Finbar
If Rocco holes could well be a two shot swing here...

Massive rush of blood, Finbarlike (I am able to 3 putt from anywhere...)
bunghole
Tiger takes 5, but still 1 up through 12.
Finbar
Not over but do I lay my bet on Rocco off...

Good for Rocco that Tiger (probably) can't go for it in two
Finbar
OK I was wrong...

Not too bad a shot that one

Good birdie by Rocco to stay within 1.

All square.

Awful drive by Woods
LLCOOLSTEVE
watch Tiger start to limp now and start blaming the leg
Chester
Rocco playing great at the moment
LLCOOLSTEVE
•••• me, what a shot from Tiger

jeez
bradpitt
I think that's why he's the best in the world :-D
daverambo2
incredible shot
Chester
The guy has the best control of a golf ball from less than optimal lies int he world. How he consistently hits great shots from fairway bunkers and the rough is amazing.

Great final few holes
LLCOOLSTEVE
Yesssss Roccoooooooooo
daverambo2
great putt from rocco
Chester
Ouch you would feel sick leaving it that short
Hedgehog
The 18th is going to be interesting.
AJ's right boot
Come on Tiger!!!!
LLCOOLSTEVE
wtf, some booing at TIger for stepping away from his shot
daverambo2
sudden death
Chester
bloody hell. Means I have to stay at work longer to watch the end lol.

Nervy final hole for both really (strange considering Tiger birdied it!)
Finbar
Come on Rocco!
daverambo2
nail biting
daverambo2
bunker for rocco!
Chester
Rocco has aquited himself very well today and has come over as a complete genleman the last couple of days. I would certainly not begrudge him a win.

Tiger is just one of those people you wish you could hate but he is so bloody amiable and sucha fantastic player that you cant.

A cracking last couple of days and what major championships should be about
daverambo2
If woods makes the green it's all over.
