| What on earth is Taylor doing at Wycombe?! I do think football managing must be the only job where everyone gets a post. |

Yeah, not a bad deal in my eyes, good lad and work rate, but to be honest i don't think he would have made it at Championship level at this stage in his career.
Good luck Lewis. |

STARLET REJECTS CONTRACT TO JOIN WANDERERS

Spence in Wycombe move
Eagles midfielder Lewwis Spence has rejected the offer of a new Selhurst Park deal to join former boss Peter Taylor at Wycombe Wanderers.
Former Palace chief Taylor has raided his old club for Spence, who, it is understood, was offered a new contract by Neil Warnock.
However, the 20-year-old has rejected the offer and opted to join the League Two club in search of guaranteed first team football and in doing so becoming Taylor's first signing since joining the Adams Park club last month.
Spence made just three appearances for Palace after breaking into the first team under Taylor and spent a spell in America playing for Crystal Palace USA. |

| I think lewwis was massively underused while he was here. I think he will go on to play at championship level, but only if he is constantly played as a central midfielder |

| Good luck to him, hopefully he'll develop like Leon McKenzie did after he stepped down a division. At this moment in time he was unlikely to make the Palace first team. |

| Is it really worth sending players like him and Sheringham to the States just to then let them go ? |

| South London P saying he rejected a new contract, he just didn't seem to be able to make the breakthrough others did. Good luck to him. |

Sounds like we wanted to keep him but he wanted first team football and was prepared to go to a lower level to get it. Good Luck to him. Take note John Bostock.
It's a shame because he looked very good at Burnley and home to Notts C when he player, and did ok at Leeds on his League debut.
I firmly believe both him and Dave Martin will develop into decent Championship players |

Risky stategy as the deal would have to have been better than what he was on - actually maybe not that risky as he was not likely to be on a lot so they need not have offered him that much. I imagine that whatever payment there is will not be a lot - any Tribunal is not going to set much in the way of compensation so any agreed fee will reflect that - maybe c£50k but it could be a bit more. Not a lot but worth having and proving again that investing in the academy makes sense. |

Not really SS i think the better players will get their chance, a high percentage don't make it. |

Don't know about that with Bostock and Kennedy gone . Watson and Fletcher expected to go that leaves us with just Soares ,Derry and Danns if he ever gets fit in midfield. |

Have to agree there, I'm surprised we hadn't already released him. One wonder goal at Tooting and Mitcham and that was it.
Will follow his progress there with interest. Think it's a good move for him though, and there's at least one player there he'll know. |

Ive not seen him play so can't comment on his ability but logic says that a 20 year old who has made only 3 apperances is unlikely to make it at that club.
Hopefully we have a deal to recieve X% of any sell on wycombe get. |

To get a game perhaps? We had something like 13 Academy graduates in the squad last season and some, like Spence, were not quite up to the last step. We've added three more this season. The marginal ones - those not outright released but no more than fringe - have the choice between staying to try to get a place and moving down to get games. Financially there's probably not a lot between fourth reserve at Palace and first team squad at Wycombe so he has to decide what he wants most, and the majority would pick games. |

Either it was agreed between the clubs that Palace would waive any compensation or alternatively the deal they offered Spence was not as good or the same as his current one when he would be entitled to go without compensation - I assume it was the former. |

Young winger explains his reasons for leaving
Departed Palace winger Lewwis Spence says the lure of regular first team football was the defining factor in his decision to reject a new Eagles deal and join Wycombe Wanderers.
Former Eagles boss Peter Taylor made the 20-year-old his first signing since taking over at Adams Park after snapping Spence up on free transfer; ending the winger's seven year affiliation with Palace.
And speaking to the Advertiser, the Eagles academy graduate, who has three first team appearances to his name, insists the prospect of having more first team chances was the overriding motivation behind his move.
He said: "Was it a happy or sad day for me to move? It was a bit of both really. I really enjoyed my time at Palace and I've got a lot of admiration for the club and the people connected with the club -- but I think this is the right time to move on. I just feel I need the experience."
"I was offered a short term deal at Palace with the view to earning a longer term deal if I could prove myself to the manager.
"My main reason for rejecting that contract was because I wanted to get 30 to 40 games under my belt next season and I probably wasn't going to do that at Palace.
"It hasn't been the best situation for me being 20-years-old and not having much league experience. But with that in mind it was still a tough decision for me to make -- I've been at Palace since I was 13 so it's been a massive part of my life."

Knowing what Spence is now on at Wycombe (thanks to an inside bit of info), it sounds like they have offered him the same or less than what he was contracted to with us.
My guess is that his wages are roughly the same as at Palace, which was not a lot.
Whatever the case, Palace should be due some sort of fee, unless they have waived that and agreed some sort of sell on clause. |
