Just to let you know he could well be on his way to Argyle
any good?
:p |

Not brilliant IMO....
Injury prone, and injured now. Derry is better. |

Strengths,
Good tackler, pretty tough, a leader and has a decent shot on him
Weaknessses
Slow, looks overweight to me and when derry came in for Fletch we looked alot better
all in all not a bad signing though, at peask fitness he would be a very decent championship midfielder |

| If he plays in a 2 in the centre, I think he struggles, but when he is in a 3, he can be a good player. Could be more mobile, comfortable on the ball, and has an ok shot, but rarely gets in the positions to use it. |

He is injured atm but do not think he is particularly injury prone - there are other players that are more so. I think he is a pretty decent midfielder who was bought in by Taylor and lost his place (while injured agreed) under Warnock and just hasn't been able to get back into the team regularly and he clearly wants regular first team football. NW has said he can go if someone comes in for him (he is probably a bit expensive to use primarily as a sub which Warnock has). I would be sorry (but not devastated) to see him go and would understand it. He is a cool head and pretty experienced.
A bit slow and needs a bit of time. Can marshal the midfield - was our captain at one point and seemed to do it pretty well. |

CF is the sort of player that prefer 15-20 game runs in the team. He always appear slow and out paced if he is in and out the team and can not build any rhythm or confidence. Good tackler and fairly decent passer of the ball and may pop up with the occasional goal.
We paid £400k for him, any idea on the fee involved Jimmy? |

Would be an extremely good signing for any championship team despite the naysayers on here.
Great man marker, tidy passer, superb shots in open play and from set pieces - never really showed what he is capable of at at Palace but I have absolutely no doubt that he is a very good player at this level. |

On his day he is outstanding and one of the first names on the team sheet if he gets a decent run in the team. He fell out of favour under Warnock and just couldn't get back in the team. I still believe he has something to offer at the club.
Also worth noting he became a bit of a cult hero amongst the hammers fans are strong performances on their way to the premiership and in the top flight as well, his highlight being a screamer against Spurs. |

lol brb rule too right mate!
I don't know the fee involved and all I've been told is that the deal could be done very soon. Argyle are interested that's for sure. |

I remember talking to a Hammers mate of mine not too long ago about Fletch; Carl's problem, he asserted, is that he played to the level of his opposition. I'd agree with that. In general though, I like him, and reckon he'll do a good job where ever he goes.
Frankly, I find it rather puzzling that a player who played a not inconsiderable part in a Premiership season most promoted teams would kill to have isn't on the smaller prem clubs' lists. But if they won't, someone else will - he's too good to sit on our bench and too expensive to boot. |

| I think he is a useful player, particularly in situations where you need a tough tackler. I think we will miss him. |

| don't think he's gone, i don't know how far the deal is but i'll let you know of any updates. |

| He'll do fine there. Decent player at this level but I fully understand if he wants to move on for regular football. It can't do his international apirations any good sitting on the bench. |

| If he does come I think he could be a good replacement for Wotton. 28 Fletcher I think? International and has had Prem experience. |

Spot on.
Good professional, got on with it last season and didn't moan but for a central midfield player he never quite made enough impact.
A nice squad player to have though, I can understand him wanting to move on. |

Good player. Reads the game well, strong in the tackle can pass and shoot, but as others have noted needs to play week in week out.
Under 600k he is a good buy at Championship level. |

| I think the fact that NW has said he can go if he wants to, stay if he wants to, but doesn't figure in his plans as a regular starter pretty much sums it up. Useful player to have around but not a shattering blow if he's not. Biggest problem replacing him could be to find a new stand-by keeper. |

A player who has never really found his feet here, but I believe that this is because he has been pinned down in a defensive role. I think he is much better if allowed to go forward. Has a good shot, can pass well, and on his day will run midfield. It is getting those days to be many rather than few that is the manager's problem.
Better than at least one of our current midfielders IMO. |

He's a good player. Not a great player, a good player.
If he stayed, I'd be happy. If he goes, I'd not be too fussed. |

I don't think any side in British footballer has used a sweeper since, like, 1992. |

A good player IMO. Played well under Taylor but hasn't fit in with Warnock.
He does struggle with his weight but I will be sorry to see him go. |

Let's not forget he was one of our best players at the beginning of the season just gone and at the end of the one before.
Our squad is thinning faster than Kuqi. |

The man-marking bit needs to be emphasised. I've rarely seen a player who so excels at ruining some guy on the other teams' day - him against Carle for instance.
We don't really need that all that often down here - but I'd have loved to have him around in the Premiership. |

I don't understand some of the hatred directed to Fletch on the BBS, nine out of the ten games he gives 100%, he got stuck in against sides and was able to dictate the play. Fair enough he was never going to win us the league, but is it right to signal hatred against somebody who gave 100% and put on the red and blue shirt with pride?
With the amount of crap Hudson, Dowie and Bostock have given to us recently I cry out for players like Fletcher to play for Palace, they do have limited ability, but they have the same enthusiasm on the pitch as the fans do in the crowd. |

| I'm not sure what he offered. He never protected the back 4 like Derry does. He cannot dictate play like Ben. And he doesnt have the energy of Tom. But still a decent CCC midfielder, nothing more. |

Oi. Less of it.
I don't hate Fletcher. Just think he's dull. |

Blows hot and cold. Mostly cold. Thought he was developing well finally at the end of 06/07, when he developed a good understanding with Ben. He'd hold and Ben would bomb on, and vice versa. His best performance for me was at home to Sheff U shortly before PT was sacked. Here he lead by example as capt to drag us back from a goal down. Think he scored in that one. That sort of performance was all too rare from him and he soon went back to a chunky, immobile player.
Problem was his role for us, I think. In his brief performances for West Ham in the Prem and indeed in the 2006 Cup Final, he'd surge forward, and had a stinging shot on him as we saw in the Pastagate game and all too briefly for us. One rocket of a goal v Hull in Jan '07. At WHU he'd Hayden or Reo Coker holding as he surged on. Due to his immobility in a Palace shirt most of the time, he seldom did this. What are we feeding him in the Palace canteen ?
Decent tackler, but not a patch on Derry. But can pass it when he puts his mind to it. Saw a ball clipped with the outside of his foot to Belamy for Wales v Brazil at WHL in 06.
Looks like the fatter twin brother of Dale of BB, which is another black mark to his name. |
