Out this Friday, who's getting it?
Spoke to a guy who works in Blockbusters last week, his mate had imported the game and he said that it was by far the best one in the series, which to me is a bold statement. Still, he seems to know his games so i'm inclined to believe him.
Promblem is I don't know a great deal about the new addition. |

I'll be doing exactly the same, trading in UTIII on the PS3 as it just isn't getting played, probably only get a tenner for it but better than a kick in the nuts! |

I need a Wii :(
The hours me and a mate clocked up on the GC Smash Bros were just silly. Something like three straight weeks, each.
I loved A levels. |

| Not for me. Should be a blast online though. |

| Best Multiplayer ever :) |

I played the last version on the GC, and it was the dullest beat-em-up I have ever played, even if it did feature some great characters. Granted, I was a billy-no-mates at the time so didn't really play any local multiplayer.
Like I said, I do think online of this version would be fun, but the lack of any voice comms defeats the object IMO. |

the last one was one of the worst Nintendo games I have ever played, really dissapointing, might put this on the rental list for Leo, but certianly not for me. |

I'm quite surprised to see that the GC game disappointed.
It does make sense though, especially considering what you have both said about it, I can assume you were playing single player. Smash Bros is all about multi. It's a shame, but for just how good a multiplayer it is I'm willing to look past its single-player flaws.
Where it excels, however, is speed. The concept and the moves system allow for precise and highly tactical games, but the speed with which you can attack, damage and dispatch an opponent can be a matter of seconds in total, and the defender has to be on his game to survive.
Add to this that four people can play on one screen, and it's nuts. Get some mates who know vaguely what they're doing, and the multiplayer is seriously, blisteringly good. Move and counter moves all over the shop, special weapons falling from the sky and an interactive level... sheer gaming quality.
That said, it's clear why the single player mode just doesn't live up. AI just can't recreate what is needed to 'make' the game.
I really, really hope the Wii version lives up, from the sounds of it so far there's a good chance it will. :p |

| In fact I'd go so far as to say slating it for the single player is like sitting alone in a two person rowboat complaining that it only goes in circles :) |

Like I said Marc, I played it alone. Guess I should have read up on it before I bought it. Back then, Nintendo had some sort of quality control when it came to publishing games, and generally, when a game came out, you picked it up, because (a) it was the only thing that was out that month and (b) it was supposed to be of a very high standard.
SSM:B multiplayer I'm sure will be a real hoot - even more so as a local multiplayer game as you can trash talk to your mates too :p |

Fine by me, Nintendo seem to be the only company not abandoning the local multi format right now.
Take your point about past Nintendo practise, perhaps Smash Bros marked a point in their history when they began to sacrifice one aspect of a game to focus on another. The single player is definitely lacking, I've thought that since, whenever I've tried to play it. In fact, I'd actually consider it a multi player game with a single mode tacked on (a reversal of the usual format, but who releases a game with no single player mode?!).
Wonder if they've addressed that in the new one. Shall investigate. |

I always played as Zelda. She's piss weak but she's got some great high power execution moves (throws and air strong attacks are mental), and if you play for most of the time as sheik then you're also more agile than just about every other character, dont fly as far as zelda when hit and have some great % dealing combos/specials.
If you could master the switching between them, zelda/sheik was the best character IMHO. Anyone know if she's still in it?
Mario had a very dull set of moves. |

Its very quick, I won 2 matches on single player but more through luck than judgement, really need to put in some practice
Sat in the online mode but there was no-one to play, a nice touch is that while you wait for people to join you get a punchbag to practice on |
