The answer is no.

You may be confusing a jailbreak with unlocking. To be able to use your O2 IPhone abroad without paying roaming fees, you would need first to jailbreak it and then unlock it (i.e. so that you can use a local SIM card). There are all sorts of problems involved with unlocking, especially if you have updated to the latest Firmware.

Jailbreaking the IPhone does not unlock it. It will still only work with an O2 Sim card. The only change is that you will be able to use Cydia, which is the alternative Application store, and all the Applications which come with it.

No roaming fees would be useful, but while I am in the UK I am more than happy with O2, so I have no intention of unlocking my Phone.

No i didn't mean to use another sim card i just thought the clever people might have been able to trick the phone into thinking it was still in the UK like they can trick the phone into thinking 3G is wifi. It was a long shot and in hindsight was a stupid question

This is mstly true however if you have a 2g phone jailbreaking and unlocking is basically partnof the same process

If i was to jailbreak my iphone, would i lose the applications that i had previously downloaded?

I made the mistake last night of not backing up my data when i jailbroke it. I think if you synch with itunes before you jailbreak it it will back up all of the apps you have currently.

Mine were all fine. Although none of them would open when I first jailbroke. I reinstalled one of the free ones through the app store and then they all worked again.

What is more concerning is losing all your cydia apps next time you want to upgrade the official firmware.

I've jailbreaked my iphone and found it a pretty painless procedure. Quite impressed with it so far and liking the extra applications.

James, you mentioned about ibluetooth. Where about's did you get it as i can't find it anywhere?

Go into Cydia on your IPhone, and select 'search' (bottom right). Type in ibluetooth and the Application you seek will appear at the top of the list.

Hmm...well at least we are getting 'cut and paste' , MMS and video recording in the next software update.

Thank god for 'cut and paste'! Cant believe we didnt get that for this long!

android already has a compass and all of the other stuff they are updating. Is of use with street view I guess as you get real time visual directions.

I have a smart brass compass, if you people are interested. You could strap it to the back of your mobile phone. 100 quid.

My iphone internet connection has disappeared. No wi-fi, 3G, Edge or the other one. No internet logo at all. Cannot use any app which requires internet or location.

And I can't find a way to reconnect (as I'm not in a wi-fi zone).

But my phone signal is still full strength.

Anyone else sufferring or with any ideas?

Edit: Oh, it's back. Bizarre. Did anyone else have a temporary loss of connection?

sometimes I just turn the phone off and on again and it's fine
