you can upgrade now?

Blind_Eagle 07-07-2008 12:48 PM

If you pre registered Dave yes.

I've been trying to upgrade most of this morning but the site is running like a dog. Having said that my latest attempt brought up a different upgrade page which has got me slightly further through the site before it fell over :D

Dave 07-07-2008 01:13 PM

Hmm - I think I'll hold fire until the weekend

No choice now Dave.

It never actually worked for me. :(

Dave 07-07-2008 02:55 PM

I think you can wait a few days :)

AndyStreet 07-07-2008 02:55 PM

I've ordered mine. No idea if it'll come on Friday but we shall see.

Justy C 07-07-2008 03:05 PM

My Dad got one back in January / February, he told me yesterday that O2 phoned him last week offering a free upgrade (which obviously he is going to take advantage of).

A bit miffed I haven't had that call yet...

The frustrating thing will be activating it.

Not sure what to do with my old one, Teaser can't leave T-Mobile and I can't be bothered with the unlocking nonsense :(

Yep, you should be able to go on the iPlayer radio bit. There are also rumours floating about that the new software will support FM radio adapters so you'd be able to listen to radio.

It should already be activated I think since I've signed up for the contract online too. The frustrating thing will be trying to get Vodafone to give me my PAC number, which I've already requested and porting my number over.

I haven't read anywhere that Iplayer will work over 02 3g - will it?

So you don't have to register with Itunes? How does that work then?

Not sure actually - might have to check this.

I haven't checked it out myself to be honest

knowlesyUCLA 07-07-2008 04:02 PM

i just checked for the first time if the Iplayer worked on iPod Touch and i was quite surprised to see it did. I would conclude that it will pretty much definitely work on iPhone 3G, using quicktime as it does on the iPod. Awesome.

That isn't the issue, the issue is - will it work on 02s 3G or will they filter it?

I've got the same problem. Mines is the 16Gb version and is in pristine condition but Mrs_Blind doesn't want it as she rarely uses her current handset.

You will have to activate it via iTunes and from your confidence I guess you have never done this with an iPhone before. Add that to the fact tha '000s of others will be trying to do it on the same day and i'm with Dave, this will be frustrating.

Before Activating

Once you've got your new iPhone 3G, you'll need to connect to iTunes to activate it.

1. Check your voicemail
Before you activate your iPhone 3G, make sure you listen to your current voicemails. If you're an existing O2 customer, activation will delete your existing voicemails. If you're transferring an existing number from another network operator, existing voicemails will not be transferred.

2. Transfer your contacts, music and photos
Before you activate, migrate your existing mobile contacts onto Outlook, Outlook Express on the PC, or Address Book or Entourage on the Mac.

To activate your iPhone 3G

Insert your current SIM card into your iPhone 3G using the SIM ejector tool found in your iPhone 3G box.

Connect your iPhone 3G to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac or PC (not on the keyboard) using the cable included in the box. iTunes opens automatically.

Follow the onscreen instructions in iTunes to activate iPhone 3G and sync your contacts, calendars, music, photos, podcasts, videos, email accounts, and web bookmarks.
