windows mobile is shit but symbian takes shitness to new, yet undiscovered levels.
If Nokia don't make some of their new phones work in 2009, we will be talking about them like now talk about palm... |

This is the Judas of the Jesus phone :( |
Sucks, can't see anything on google other than what I suggested.

Could anyone please explain what cellular network data means?
|
Internet access on a mobile phone
|
And can that include access from the wi-fi in our house?
|
No.
This is accessing the internet via 3G or gprs NOT wifi |
And can I at all prevent the phone from accessing the internet by any other means but wifi?
I was under the impression that I was only using wifi for browsing and certain applications but now I'm not so sure. |
Quote:
In the UK you would clearly be using 3G, Edge or GPRS. You can turn 3G off as well if you wanted to (eg. to save power) but you'd have to have Edge and GPRS enabled. |
Thanks both of you, I found this website http://brent.kearneys.ca/2008/07/21/...ternet-access/, it's a quick read and if either of you could take a look and let me know if that will solve my problem I'd appreciate it.
|
Oliver easiest way to try is to switch off wifi and see if you can access the internet before the fix and after...
|
Alright got it now.
Thank you both I wouldn't have been happy with the already expensive bill I get on the contract they offer in this country. |
Posters up at Macworld saying "Even the small talk will be big" hmm iphone nano that sounds ike...although it isnt an official apple poster
|
How do you work that out from that ad then?
Serious question, I'd read that to suggest a bigger handset!! |
Forget that. I've been drinking. :D

http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/0,...9299703,00.htm Still thinking of upgrading my personal phone to an iPhone later in the year, but no rush for the present. Might as well wait to see if a larger one comes out that could replace my iPod. |

So I have an iPhone in my possession with a 3G O2 Simplicity sim card all ready to go. Put the sim card in, having restored the phone, open iTunes. Now I am confronted with a message saying 'Waiting for activation. This may take some time'. Earlier I must have waited for about 4 hours. How long is this going to take??!! Is something wrong? The phone I have is second hand, might that be the issue?
|
could be anything up to 24 hours....
|
who is using twitter on the Iphone?

reset it again

|
You have connected it to iTunes - right?
|
yeah its connected. sim card installed and left with 'No service' where the reception should be. I definitely have a 3G sim and that, so should be working. What else to do?
|
Call 02
|
Will do at some point, maybe take it in. Cheers Dave.

My Jesus phone is the first casualty of this trip to Ireland. :( The screen lost a battle with the local granite and is smashed to fek.
She still works mind, just a very sad sight to behold. |

FRING allows you to use Skype (including Skype out) when you have a WiFi connection - and the Skype messenger service works fine over 3g and edge. That's good enough for me - with Skype Lite, it seems as if you would have to pay for a local call using the service. What's the point of that, unless you make loads of International Call? As the reviewer points out: Quote:
|
Fring doesn't actually allow you to text chat with other skype users unless they are logged into fring, does it?
|
And there is the whole issue of giving a third party your Skype login

My sister lives in Bangkok and uses Skype on her PC. She has never heard of Fring. I am able to talk to her (voice when using my wireless home network - text by Edge/3g) when she is logged into Skype. Why don't you try it and see? |

Interestingly the battery life appears infinately better than my old handset (on it since it arrived and still a full green bar) my sticky text delete key problem also appears to have gone away. Happy me. :) |
Just received an iphone on 02 £30.00 a month tariff, what I can't work out is if receiving and sending emails included in the tariff, anyone know?
Thanks |
It is included - counts as data.
I'm going to have to cave and get a case of some sort, already got nasty scratches in the plastic after less than a month. Preferably something grippier than the gloss plastic as I keep dropping it on concrete. |

My old phone wouldn't have made it through last night. :) |
i just got an iphone 8gb £24 a month with 600 mins and 600 texts free a month and free internet and wifi
|
Has anyone taken the phone abroad? Is roaming enacted automatically? What about internet access? Any idea of the charges?
Answers by the end of today, please. ;) |

Nightmare!
Only had the phone for a month and it's decided it doesn't want to send text messages anymore. Done a full restore and everything that o2/Apple have told me to. Still won't work. Seems to be quite a widespread problem having done a google search. There is a fairly long thread on the o2 forums about it... http://forum.o2.co.uk/viewtopic.php?...er=asc&start=0 The woman I phoned at o2 said I should send the phone off for repair but that could take ages for the phone to come back to me. I'm going to take it into the Apple shop on Regents Street tomorrow and hope they give me a new one... really don't fancy waiting for the best part of a month for them to repair it or decide to send me a new one. |
Are you sure it's away for a month, fairly sure I read they were replaced in ten days
|
Quote:
To be honest even 10 days is too long. I really hope the apple store give me a new one tomorrow. |
If you bought from 02 why would Apple exchange it?
|
Some people on that o2 forum claim they had theirs replaced at Apple shops.
|
Let us know how you get on
|
Will do!

Does anyone know if, having gone and bought an 8gb iPhone, you can 6 months later go and exchange it for a 16gb one instead (at a cost, of course!)?
|
I haven't heard of anyone being allowed to do that.
|
Quote:
Only applies if you have a contract, obviously. |
Excellent. I shall have to pop into an Apple store then.
Cheers |
does anyone know if the Samsung Omnia is any good, it has a flash and better cam than the i phone, also o2 are trying to make me have an 18 mnth contract with the i phone, saying Apple wont allow them to release them on a 12 mnth,
Thanks |

However got to go through the motions and have an appointment with of their in-store "Genius's" tomorrow before they'll give me a new one. |
Quote:
:) |
Oh - I thought that was what he was asking.
yeah - they won't let you upgrade a 3g to a bigger disk |
Had my appointment with the 'Genius' in the Apple shop today.
He spent 10 mins doing some diognostic stuff with the phone and told me the problem is quite widespread. Sent a load of data to Apple from my phone and then gave me a new one. I didn't even have to show a receipt or anything. Was pretty impressed with the service. |

One of the better companies out there, me thinks. |
I get my iphone delivered tomorrow!
After 2 years of using this piece of shite http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_w550-1245.php I can't wait to feel the difference. |
Quote:
The w550 is widely regarding as one of the only user experiences which is just as good as the iPhone's |
Had my iphone for a couple of weeks now, overall very pleased - the only real gripe I have is using the zoom feature in safari, i seem to tap the screen a couple of times and sometimes it zooms other times not - something I am doing wrong?
|
Will depend on the webpage and if it's completed loading.
Using your finger and thumb to stretch is better, imvho |
Quote:
I didn't know about this for a while after I got my IPhone, and like you was frustrated by the tapping to enlarge feature. This doesn't work very well - and of course will only enlarge to a fixed size. By stretching the image, you can resize by any factor. |
Thanks Dave and James :)
|
I'm due an upgrade in March. All things are pointing to an Iphone. I love the look of email and browsing is ace.
But the camera is really holding me back. I have a SE 5MP camera phone at the moment, and don't use a seperate digital camera. The 2MP camera, lack of picture messaging and no flash is really making me think twice. |
You don't care there is no drinks holder when driving a Ferrari
|
You might care if there was no back seat if you were looking for a family car.
|
They really shouldn't have bothered to put a camera in the IPhone. It's almost useless - and compares starkly with (most) of the other excellent features in the Phone. If a good camera is important to you, then go for something else - or simply carry a dedicated camera in addition.
I wouldn't be without the IPhone. I have had a number of leading edge mobiles before, and none has come close to rivaling this marvellous bit of kit. If you do go for it, I know that you won't regret it. Oh, and there are drinks holders in Ferraris. |

I wonder how much complication would have been involved for apple to put in a better camera.
Not an award winning one, but one that is at least usable. |
I just can't get my head round them not receiving picture messages?
That's just proper weird. |

But.... the music player software is crap on an SE as is the message viewing software. It would be nice if someone would bring out a phone that was all things to all men. If I go for an iPhone, I have to go out an buy a digital camera as well. Which I will never have on me when I want to take a photo, so it's pointless. |
I got one of these for Christmas (16GB 3G) and I love it!
Although... My relationship with the auto-correction system on the keyboard is let's say bittersweet! The ipod doesn't have a sleep facility The camera doesn't have a flash or video function Besides that though I do enjoy it thoroughly. The helicopter game application at 80p or something is a gift from God! |
