I put this on the hotukdeals thread, but thought it might be good here too, as it's an amazing deal

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I've just signed up for this

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/sim-...228566?aui=425

I was already on the Sim 300, but on a month to month. Am happy with it and happy to commit to a year. Will now be getting 300 mins, 3000 texts and 1Gb a month for only £20 for the whole year!!

Hope it benefits some of you.

Hilltop Meggie 30-05-2012 10:13 AM

My iphone emails will not open anymore, they arrive, I can see them as normal but, cannot open any of them. The screen is frozen it seems yet all other functions of the phone work. I can open on the desktop and they then loose the unread blue dot on the handset...I am a tad thick when it comes to technology. Any suggestions please?

Try a soft reboot. It tends to fix a lot of things.

Hold the power button and home button for ten secs, then it should turn off, turn it back on and see if that is any better.

Why, thank you very much - it has worked. :lux:

Another problem I have (one of many) is, I get email attachments which I need to open (perferably on desk top) but can't, no idea how to make them open even after reading all kinds of 'help'.
The files arrive as DbMail.tif and try as I might, I cannot convert it to something readable! I can however, on my phone.

Cant help there I'm afraid, but if reading it right sounds like a PC issue not iPhone?

I don't want to be unnecessarily confrontations (again), but having downloaded this App, I cannot see how it improves podcasts on iTunes.

I don't much like iTunes, and there is much that could be improved/done better in a separate App, but finding and downloading podcasts is the one thing that iTunes has always done fine - for me at least.

So, perhaps I am missing something. What exactly does this App do which is an improvement on the iTunes version?

I can subscribe within the app, I don't need to plug into iTunes to add a subscription.

Also, podcasts will auto download

In summary, podcasts without plugging into iTunes, sort of useful in the post pc age

First of hopefully more apps that remove the need to plug in. With Match, podcasts and OTA updates I can't think of a reason why I need to plugin again for audio. Once TV launches they'll probably have a video match service too.

I still like using my Mac to search for stuff, which means I'm stuck with iTunes. I have a lot of podcasts, and want to be able to organise them better on my computer. Some stuff I search for comes in a combination of podcast and iTunes U as well, and it's easier to that in one search than through two apps.

I like the app though. It just doesn't resolve my main issue which is about a decent podcast/iTunes U catalog system.

Hopefully it is out soon. Have had my 3G S since they came out, it can't make calls, on/off button is broken (and has now fallen off), volume buttons have fallen off, it has a huge crack over half it's length right up the back, battery is woeful, constantly freezes and often needs resetting. I'm coming up to a year since my upgrade was due, and clearly need a new phone - issue is no other phone offers to me what an iPhone can, and having an iMac it has additional uses to me as I can share information across both products, again something a non-Apple product can't offer me.

Cake and Eat It 29-07-2012 06:19 PM

Given you can't use your phone to do any of the above. It would be cheaper to carry round a small brick. It will make the same amount of calls, the volume will stay the same and there is less chance of it cracking.

So I had some computer problems earlier this year and I kind of lost the hard drive that had all my iTunes stuff on (apps/podcasts etc...)

I've been using my phone without iTunes and it's generally been fine.

Now I want to go back to using iTunes on a PC. How do I get the things off my phone onto the PC so that when I sync from the PC it won't replace the way I've got it on my phone?

Does that make sense?

I am having a bit of a guess here, but I have managed to go on iTunes before, and take up the option in one of the menus up top whereby you can unsync all previously synced computers etc.

Try that first. If you manage it, you should be ok.

Besides that, when you put a CD in the PC and iTunes opens, it automatically asks if you want to copy all the music to your iTunes account anyway.

Maybe someone else may be able to confirm, but I would suggest de-synching just in case, and then just plug it in and hope for the best.

I have used senuti (itunes backwards) for MAC successfully to transfer my iPod Touch library to iTunes - I think there's a PC version too although I have no experience of using it.

Just upgraded to an iPhone 5. My wife has inherited my old iPhone 4. How does she go about creating her own 'Apple ID'?
If I remove my ID from her phone, will it also remove it from my Macbook and new iPhone.
Also, can she create her own Apple ID just with her phone or does she need to do it on a computer? (she hasn't got her own computer but uses mine).

You can still both use your apple ID for the store (so she doesn't have to buy apps again) too. Just in settings, general, iCloud, that you need to change the account from your apple ID to her new one.

It won't change anything on your MacBook or other phone. I did this when my girlfriend inherited my old phone, it's really easy.

fang 18-12-2012 06:03 PM

Heb, thanks. I'm trying to create an Apple ID for her. I get through all the stages and when I click agree terms, it says that this domain (her email address) cannot be used with "mobile me" which I thought was now defunct?

I'll keep trying

Heb 7:4 18-12-2012 06:35 PM

Might be easiest to set the phone up from new. She probably won't want all the apps you have anyway. Do a restore to factory settings, then set her up as a new user. You make an apple ID when you are setting up. Then go into settings, store, and change to your apple ID and password for the store. You can then (either through the phone or via your computer) download for free any apps that she wants that you've already bought.

I don't think he wants one phone with two sets of apps. He wants two phones sharing the same set of apps. So only one password, which is easy.

I have three phones and two iPads set up with two iTunes accounts (both mine, but one UK and one US store). It's no problem really. You just make the passwords the same!

The problem happens when you try to iMessage or Facetime each other.

There is no problem at all. Every device has an apple ID set to its owner. I have my iPhone and iPad set to my apple ID as I want FaceTime and iMessage coming to both. My girlfriend only has an iPhone, so has her apple ID on that, and my mum has an iPad and iPhone but only wants iMessage going to her phone and FaceTime to her iPad. So while both her iPhone and her iPad have the same apple ID, she has set the caller ID of her phone iMessage to her phone number, and her iPad uses her email for FaceTime (I could still iMessage her iPad alone by using her email, but it will be a seperate conversation thread)

All of these devices use my apple ID for the app store.

There is a way that can happen though. If you lose connection to the internet there is a setting that will automatically continue doing whatever you're doing (i.e FaceTime, Streaming, Downloading etc..) via your Cellular Signal. It's a very naughty feature that you should turn off unless you have unlimited data.

Dave 23-12-2012 04:06 PM

What are you on about, there is no such feature I am aware of

Heb 7:4 23-12-2012 04:36 PM

Maybe he means the cellular data setting? Though why the hell you'd only want your iphone to use WiFi I don't know. Defeats the point.

Purchases have a separate setting altogether. Default setting is download over WiFi, you have to turn cellular on if you want it.

Yer it was to do with that.. it was when i was connected to the WiFi at home i thought it was using my cellular data but all is good now as i made a mistake haha. I googled the problem as well and saw others having the same one (eventhough mine wasn't a problem just me being an idiot).

Loving the phone though, much much better compared to a Blackberry (i know i shouldn't even compare them)!

I think if you go over the amount of data you're meant to use your speeds are meant to slow by quite a bit so that might be it?

Loving the phone though, much much better compared to a Blackberry (i know i shouldn't even compare them)!

I have 2gb a month. Doubt I would have gone over.

If you download something via WiFi and then it drops and you have these set to on then it will continue the download without warning and use your 3G/4G data.

That's different, that settings pane just determines what apps use cellular data.

Maybe I am missing the point

It determines what apps are allowed to carry on using cellular data to download/stream when the Wifi Signal goes.

I can use iTunes and download anything when I touch download but if I start the download on a wifi signal then get cut off it will stop because I don't want it to use the cellular data to carry it on.

OP has cellular data turned off...

Yes ur absolutely right I was watching something on iplayer and without realising lost wifi and sapped my allowance in one go!

It's a bit different for individual non-apple related apps. You have to go into the settings for each app and look for the Cellular Data switch and turn that mofo off!

If you're referring to me then i only turned it off as i thought it was still using cellular data when i was meant to be using Wi-Fi but i was looking at the wrong thing when checking my data usage (lol). I've turned it back on now though haha

Turns out that when i changed over to my new iphone, the settings were wrong.
I had this personal hotspot thing on all the time. I apprently used "1.7gb" in one day on a sunday.

Utter robbing bastards didnt even send me a text saying my data was over it's limit.

Managed to get a refund, but it was painful.

You all might want to double check.

I have personal hotspot turned on all the time. Doesn't use data unless I connect something to it.

Does it not use battery life?

Not really. It would if I had wifi on but I rarely do as I have totally unlimited data and tend to use Bluetooth rather than wifi for mobile hotspotness.
