I think in terms of modern stuff (post 1960's) can't be more than a handful of stickers/cards.
In terms of ciggie cards - I have 12/15 of the Taddy 1908 series (plus one swap which could be very useful in the future), but only 2/15 of the 1913 Taddy Series - that is the biggest gap in my collection really. Not missing much else - the Pattreiouex team group (which went on ebay and sold for a daft amount) I still need, and in terms of Pinnace, well I have all the miniature ones, but not with every back variation for each, I only have one "large" one (roughly trade card size), and three "cabinet" size ones (again a few of these went on ebay recently, but what with the price of Premiership football, and trying to go to every England game home and away to qualify for World Cup tickets, I just can't flash the cash these days - christ I can't even afford to go away by coach any more!), but essentially I have very few gaps in my collection. If you want to borrow them for scanning/photographing, I'm happy to lend you them. PS To find out what I'm missing, I guess I really need to sit down with your list and go through it, which is something I've never actually done (shame on me). I also need to go through the book "Full time" which lists EVERY pre-1940 football cigarette card and is an absolute bible to anyone trying to collect all the cig cards of their football club. |
Cool thanks. I've been saving pix from ebay of the ones I can't afford.
Will compile a list. |

Not sure how serious you are about filling the gaps in your cig card collection, but <I'm gonna regret this> did you know there is a monthly fair in London? (which I've been to a few times). It is the world centre for Roy Cropper* type anoraks! But I've seen plenty of the Palace cards which you are probably missing, and even if you set yourself a threshold, i.e. "I am not going to pay more than £5 a card", or "I am not going to spend more than £20 today", you would still come away with some good stuff. Let me know via pm if you want details, similarly if you want to arrange to scan stuff (although my mantra for everything like this at the moment is "in the close season"! * Coronation Street "anorak" |

I know what you mean. I went to one in Orpington recently, which I should imagine has many of the same dealers. They were hardly the friendliest people in the world. I would have thought the chance to get their teeth into a rank amateur like me - clutching a spreadsheet printout - would have been too good to resist. PS don't worry, we are talking close season on the scanning. I have a house to put in order first! |
You've hit the nail squarely on the head with regards to the hobby - it's a bit Royston Vasey in terms of "we don't like outsiders here" or "haven't seen you here before"!!
It's very much that a lot of the collectors have socialising problems or something, in that they all know each other and look after each other. For example - the room in the hotel where it takes place is generally very quiet, with the odd murmour as anoraks are wading through binder after binder, looking for the missing cards from their various sets, then suddenly, piercing the silence, some nob shouts across the room "Stuart! I think I've found that missing Wills' chaffinch card!" , and then excited quiet chatter spreads across the room! It is also like, they expect you to know what you are looking for and where to look. So if you ask for help, you have to tell them confidently of exactly what you are after. And sometimes you could say "I'm looking for Wills' Scissors cards" "which series?" they say instantly back "the 1914 series of footballers" you reply " which cards" they say straight away "Rev Kenneth Hunt" you say, whilst fumbling through your list instantly they reply "no I haven't got that one" (without looking)as if they know their entire stock, card by card, despite holding thousands of cards! One of the dealers in more helpful than the rest, in that he collects Spurs cards himself, and is wiling to chat about collecting, and goive help, suggestions and advice, but even he is a bit annoying, because he keeps pulling out random cards of ex-palace players, and tries to flog you them - i.e. "Here's a card of Ronnie Rooke, have you got that one?" me - "no, but he's in Arsenal colours so I'm not after it" him (all offended) "oh sorry., I thought you collected Palace players." (as if you are now not a serious collector for not buying some Arsenal card of a player who once played for Palace at some other time! |

Have tried to pronounce it to these dealers myself and am never sure how to say it properly!
Have a good weekend, I'm off shortly. (Just after I've gone onto ebay to have a nose at what you are bidding on :p |
Oooh very nice! Never seen two of those before! The old one is a corker and seriously rare!
I should spend less of my time on ebay hunting for badges and more time paying attention for cards. Very best of luck. |
The old one is in very poor condition and I suspect has no back at all. The other one looks great but I didn't realise the set wasn't actually football related!

football 72 , looking through the football 72 album by panini was reading the comments inthe album about palace players .
Steve Kember . The schemer of the side. Kember has earned honours at schoolboy, youth and england u-23 level. Dangerous finisher, too, when he likes. Born in croydon. Joh Sewell . Known as gentleman john for his scrupulously fair tackling . Oh , how times have changed !!! |
this is a general site for all clubs but includes palace stuff

its well worth a visit , though . I am very impressed |
Some useful info on that site now - its totally changed since I first found it.
Anyway the real purpose for bumping this thread is to announce a very minor milestone - today I logged the 1000th card onto the list... Don't worry, Anorak got. |

More of your help required.
I have two out of three of the Panini club crests issued between 85 and 87. Trouble is, as these have been cut from albums, I don't know which is which and thus, which one I am missing. Here is the scan of the two I have (being foils they don't scan very well, but I hope there's enough to go on here) As ever, all help gratefully received. |
One on the right (sparkly one) is Panini Football 86, the one on the left is either Football 87 or 88. Couldn't confirm which off the top of my head without checking at home.
|
Cool. I have '88 so it seems I am missing '85.
Anyone out there with a swop? |
No, sorry.
