Brighton Away

Train leaving Falmer at 14-58 for Palace fans
Calling at Haywards Heath,East Croydon,Selhurst and London Victoria.
That's if they let us out of the ground in time.

That won't leave on time. The station and area outside the ground will probably still be swarming with weed. They won't try and get the escort through if it is.

Seems ambitious to get our fans from the away end onto a 14-58 service.

Last season it was a shambles after the game nobody seemed to know anything about a Special Train for our fans even though it was widely advertised before the game!

Blimey! Not a hope of that happening on time, they take long enough to get the escort through when they keep us in for 30/40 minutes.

Brighton Away

The M23 will be closed northbound for the whole weekend from Friday 28th February between junctions 10 (Crawley)and 8 (M25) with 50 mph speed restrictions southbound due to conversion to smart motorway. Diversions at Crawley will go via A264 and A22 to rejoin M25 at junction 6 (Godstone). You can expect delays on this route as it has several roundabouts and is mainly a single carriageway .

The usual free travel zone will apply for about 3 hours either side of the game. Thus you will only need to buy train tickets to Haywards Heath, Worthing or Polegate and continue for the rest of the journey to Falmer on presentation of a valid match ticket. This is also valid on local buses towards the ground. Also buses will replace trains between Eastbourne and Polegate due to engineering works.
It is expected that a special train will run to East Croydon after the game but this is yet to be confirmed.

Free park and ride is available at:
Mill Road (BN1 8ZF) -turn right at roundabout for the A23/A27 junction under narrow rail bridge. This will often fill up 90 mins before the game.
Brighton Racecourse (BN2 9XZ) - travel via A23 towards city centre one-way system and follow signs to Racecourse turning left into Union Rd then left into A270 Lewes Rd and immediately right into Elm Grove and right after hospital at top of the hill or continue towards seafront and turn left into Edwards St (signposted - Royal Sussex County Hospital) and the left into Freshfield Rd ( signposted - Racecourse). You are advised not to try to reach this via the A27 past the stadium.
The previous University of Brighton site on the A270 Lewes Road (BN2 4AT) is now shown as closed.

They close the M23 Northbound the very day Palace have Brighton away

You couldn't make it up

CharlieCPFC 20-02-2020 01:13 PM

The A22 derby now then.

Not a stupid question, there should also be a train down, but the timing hasn't been released yet.

IN Theory if you're coming from the East Croydon area you would only need to get a ticket to Haywards Heath and then continue to either Brighton or Lewes and change for a train to Falmer. In order to benefit from the free travel area the train will need to depart Haywards Heath after 9:30. You would still need some sort of return ticket to get through the barriers at East Croydon even if you catch a special back.

However it is currently actually cheaper to buy an advance off peak adult return ticket on a Thameslink train to Brighton (12.90) than a return ticket to Haywards Heath.

They do not usually put on special trains from East Croydon before the game and travellers are advised to allow 1 hour to get from Brighton or Lewes to Falmer as you will need to exit the station to join a new queue for the shuttle trains.

Is there a special train before or after the game?

Keith Powell 24-02-2020 08:27 PM

There is a special train after the game which I put on the Brighton thread a few weeks ago.

Keith Powell 24-02-2020 08:34 PM

Train leaves Falmer at 14-58 if they let us out of the ground earlier enough.

I've never driven but I think you can find spaces near Coldean and then walk down. I'm fairly sure from memory now they've got regulations in place in Moulsecoomb preventing people from doing so round there.

You're probably too late but as King William says, you can buy a parking spot in the Bridge Car Park for 15. I have to say the box office at BHA were incredibly helpful and friendly when I rang - no problems even though I told them I was a Palace fan.
