One big triumph over the weekend however was successfully unlocking my T-Mobile USB 'Web and Walk' modem, using instructions found on the Web. The Sim Card from my IPhone 3g works fine with it, so I can use my new account with my Laptop and get the full 3g benefit. |

Bad news on the iphone, and it all sounds so simple according to the lifehacker instructions. |
It's pretty easy
|
Viewty Airshare..... and 16gig microsd card and upwards capacity.
Hows your camera guys ? Do you think the Iphone will actually catch up to the Viewty eventually ? Just stirring, however the Iphone isnt the great leap forward that people seem to think. http://ezinearticles.com/?LG-KU990-V...les&id=1449901 http://www.whatmobile.net/forumvb/sh...ad.php?t=25815 |

Just in case anyone reading doesn't want to waste their money in a lemming like frenzy.... Heres some more Viewty Apps... pity about the gps but they are working on it.
http://www.mobileexpert.co.uk/mobile...-software.html Oh and there are 64 gig Micro sd Cards on the Horizon, so you will be able to use this phone for a long long while. |
I think it's good that there are lower end phones for people to cheap to get an Iphone.
|
I reckon the advertising Guru's have done a fantastic job with the Apple brand. It's amazing the kind of people they have sucked in.
No wonder people working in advertising get paid so well, they obviously push the right buttons. The only thing lesser about the Viewty is the advertising revenue. Now lets move on to Android eh ;) |

You don't buy a car because it has the largest engine, The Iphone kicks the viewtys ass on a number of levels, including, but not limited to * Styling * Operating system * Browsing experience * Ipod experience * Synchronisation * App store |
I thought this was the thread for iPhone users?
I always think there is something a bit desperate about people coming into forums/threads for Apple devices just to slag off an Apple device. If the other devices are that good, then why such insecurity about the choice, which manifests itself in having to go look for Apple users to argue with? |
Quote:
Just evened up the playing field slightly, with some choices that most people didnt know about, specifically the myth that the Viewty only has 2gigs of memory. |

Bet you wished you had an iphone tho ;)

I do like tinkering with the phones in this household though :p |

I've used the Viewty a fair amount in the past. It has nothing on the iPhone in any sense other than the camera.
|
how do i transfer contacts from iphone to another phone?
ie are they on the sim card automatically? |
No, they are stored on the phone. When you backup your phone you can transfer to another phone.
The Mac also has the 'contacts' app, I can't speak for windowze |

Fring is now out on iPhone, MSN, Skype etc all included including free VOIP calls or use Skype out for cheap calls to friends over a wifi network.
|
I'm hugely wary of entering my IM details into any third party apps that aren't open source
|
Quote:
It doesn't work with Skype out - but I have just had a conversation with my Sister in Bangkok using my iPhone. Thanks very much for pointing this out. |
Quote:
As first to market it should get quite an advantage over the others. I'd recommend that passwords are unique for any apps to lessen risk. |
Quote:
Agree its a major step forward. |
This is immense. I am so pleased with this.

skype out works for me - serious lag though
It's also a funny with showing users online or not. |
Apple will clean up when they release something that can run in memory - does fring run in memory on unlocked phones?
|

|
the number is wrong
|
It also appears that the skype text chat uses frings chat server not skype although calling works
It's still being lame with showing who is online |
Every time I dial a number - I get an immediate 'Call Terminated' when I press 'Skype Out'.
My area code is 01483 - so what should I be dialling? On my PC, it's +441483 .... |
It's a shame that this won't work on 3g. It's only on a WiFi connection I believe.
|
00441483....
|
Now I feel foolish.

To be honest its a bit of a pain in the arse as you have to either retype the numbers you have in your phone book to adjust. Would like to see a software improvement for this for local calling. |

Voice calling over MSN works to, just freaked out my daughter on the laptop upstairs :D
|
I love the iPhone - and I probably wouldn't have got one if it hadn't been for the BBS and this thread.
|

I'm fairly sure that is what apple will hold out for with Ichat, make it the only IM client that runs in memory in the background and they will clean up. |

I also have an issue with the call quality, the missing contacts in skype and the polling of skype's servers only every ten minutes (the last two are the same issue I guess). It's a sucky user experience compared to the skype phone |

My iPhone broke tonight :sob: Despite no headphones being anywhere near it it still says they are, quite a common problem apparently but no matter how many times I plug in and unplug the headphones, no joy!! Back to the Apple shop tomorrow for me. |
Quote:
Even if there is 100% official Skype client until such times as it can be run in the background it's pretty much useless. Sorry to hear about your phone :( |
Quote:
I also completely agree with your other point too, ie. iChat will be the killer app in this space when Apple finally decide to break their own rules. As for the phone, it has now fixed itself, no idea why but its working again after the 100+ time of plugging the bloody earphones in, it has cleared. I did a full restore too which may have helped. Ironic thing is its the first time I've used the official headphones tonight and after that it broke. Oh well at least it saves me the hassle of having to go near Bluewater (for which I am always grateful :D) |

can you use songs from your library to use as ringtones on the phone does anybody know or just stuck with the bog standard ones all ready installed ?
|
You can but I think they need to be in m4r format and limited to 30 seconds long. They are then shown as custom ringtones and sync from your itunes lib
|

cheers thanks for that being using it for a little while now and gota say best phone i've ever had :lux: |

Clear your cookies Godstone and then log on, remembering to check the 'remember me' box. This solved it for me. :)

And I trusted him.
Though he did also lie about insurance. But all sales people do that, so I let him off. annoyingly, due to the contract I was on, I can't get the unlimited data surfing & whatnot till my next billing date |
02 are idiots but I would trust them over the CPW, maybe.
