It's really unlikely to be bricked, the risk is that your data gets lost

James 25-09-2008 08:11 PM

Surely not if I back it all up first?

Dave 25-09-2008 08:19 PM

The risk is you can't restore from backup

James 26-09-2008 12:42 AM

Hmmm ...

I was going to do it tonight. I'm going to leave it until the morning.

My thoughts exactly...

Actually - I didn't mean hardware restrictions!

I meant Firmware restrictions. The hardware itself has it all - but it is hamstrung by a very restrictive Operating System.

Still, you knew what I meant, didn't you?

Does nobody research products before buying them anymore?

You couldn't launch a class action suit again the manufacturer if that happened.

James Melody 26-09-2008 01:15 PM

Yep.....I think the iPhone is 95% spot on....the other 5% though just makes me want to scream.

I am intrigued by this James, you listed 5 problem areas on the last page, all but the first one are resolved I believe with subsequent firmware and application upgrades although there were some problems down to the choice of OS you use on your PC. What does it not do for you?

Divx support is always patchy anyway, it requires licensing to use corporately which is why so many avoid it. MKV I'd prefer personally but I think you'll need to get the Ugly phone to get 3rd party open source support for that.

The iPhone whilst not perfect beats the WM6 platform hands down from my experience. It will however be interesting to see what happens when they bring a decent G-Phone out.

I'd like LEAP, if I had that I could use it at work.

Then jailbreak it

James 26-09-2008 07:05 PM

I'm scared ..... !!

James 26-09-2008 07:05 PM

Doing it now ....

Ridcully 26-09-2008 08:40 PM

Good luck and do give us your views on how easy the process is and what its like afterwards (ie. what you can now run etc.)

I used a load of Cooked Roms on my Tytn and they broke the radio :(

Luckily I restored it back to factory settings and T-Mobile swapped it for a new one under warranty :lux:

Ridcully 26-09-2008 09:32 PM

Hmmm vlc4iphone looks good. Anyone have a good 3rd party app list?

I am tempted now to also go down this path.

Anyone else Jailbroken their 3G yet?

Ridcully 28-09-2008 08:52 PM

Have you killed it James?
