There is a way that can happen though. If you lose connection to the internet there is a setting that will automatically continue doing whatever you're doing (i.e FaceTime, Streaming, Downloading etc..) via your Cellular Signal. It's a very naughty feature that you should turn off unless you have unlimited data.

Dave 23-12-2012 04:06 PM

What are you on about, there is no such feature I am aware of

Heb 7:4 23-12-2012 04:36 PM

Maybe he means the cellular data setting? Though why the hell you'd only want your iphone to use WiFi I don't know. Defeats the point.

Purchases have a separate setting altogether. Default setting is download over WiFi, you have to turn cellular on if you want it.

Stavros 69 23-12-2012 05:20 PM

My iPhone has gone bat shit.

Data is loading so so slowly on 3G. I'm on O2.
Anyone else having this problem?

Yer it was to do with that.. it was when i was connected to the WiFi at home i thought it was using my cellular data but all is good now as i made a mistake haha. I googled the problem as well and saw others having the same one (eventhough mine wasn't a problem just me being an idiot).

Loving the phone though, much much better compared to a Blackberry (i know i shouldn't even compare them)!

I think if you go over the amount of data you're meant to use your speeds are meant to slow by quite a bit so that might be it?

I have 2gb a month. Doubt I would have gone over.

If you download something via WiFi and then it drops and you have these set to on then it will continue the download without warning and use your 3G/4G data.

Dave 23-12-2012 07:08 PM

That's different, that settings pane just determines what apps use cellular data.

Maybe I am missing the point

It determines what apps are allowed to carry on using cellular data to download/stream when the Wifi Signal goes.

I can use iTunes and download anything when I touch download but if I start the download on a wifi signal then get cut off it will stop because I don't want it to use the cellular data to carry it on.

Dave 23-12-2012 07:23 PM

OP has cellular data turned off...

It's a bit different for individual non-apple related apps. You have to go into the settings for each app and look for the Cellular Data switch and turn that mofo off!

If you're referring to me then i only turned it off as i thought it was still using cellular data when i was meant to be using Wi-Fi but i was looking at the wrong thing when checking my data usage (lol). I've turned it back on now though haha

Stavros 69 24-12-2012 11:02 AM

Turns out that when i changed over to my new iphone, the settings were wrong.
I had this personal hotspot thing on all the time. I apprently used "1.7gb" in one day on a sunday.

Utter robbing bastards didnt even send me a text saying my data was over it's limit.

Managed to get a refund, but it was painful.

You all might want to double check.

Adlerhorst 24-12-2012 11:41 AM

I have personal hotspot turned on all the time. Doesn't use data unless I connect something to it.

Does it not use battery life?

Not really. It would if I had wifi on but I rarely do as I have totally unlimited data and tend to use Bluetooth rather than wifi for mobile hotspotness.
