Just had what some might call a bit of a result. (Others will just wince and jeer 'saddo')
It's taken nearly a month to complete and get it in my grubby mitts, but now I have I thought I'd share it. On ebay about a month ago there was an auction of 8 cigarette cards. Taddy's. 1913/14 Taddy's Prominent Footballers to be precise. It is unusual for cards from this series to surface in more than 1's and 2's so an auction lot of 8 was nost unusual. Especially as they go for about £40 from dealers catalogues (not that dealers often have any to sell) One of the 8 cards was a Palace Player - J Johnson. Great stuff - well worth a bid. Just have to hope no-one else sees the item, and I could get a bargain if I time it right. Trouble was 7 of the 8 cards were Man United players:( Chances of 'no-one' noticing the lot were slim to nothing, and in no time the lot had exceeded the value of the one Palace card. In the last 10 seconds, loads of bids went in, probably snipes, and the 8 cards went for the best part of £400. However I then thought, what's the chances of the winning bidder being interested in the Palace card? I looked at their bid history and it was Busby Babes this and that and so on. So I contacted him, and sure enough, he was willing to sell me the Palace card for a Bullseye* And sure enough after a few weeks of me wondering if I'd been taken for a ride, the card arrived today! Result! The Card in question is in the bottom right of the scan, and some of you may even realise this is the chap whom there was a couple of articles on a couple of years ago in Palace Echo, when a load of memorabilia relating to him went on auction. Was it worth it? in the soccer stars 83-84 album , sticker number 297 for brighton has Neil Smillie wearing a palace shirt from 78 season admiral white home shirt .

Stu, look closely at the background of the Paul Barron picture in the same collection if you have it, it looks very much like Selhurst to me and not at all like the other WBA team pix.

Dont think merlin released the usual ' kick off ' collection this year , they will probably do the big album . Wonder if panini have given up on the idea |

as above they gone for a sticker album this time some what of a dissapointment the stickers numbers are as follows 179- badge 180- stadium 181- star player julian speroni 182 kits 183 star player victor moses 184 star player nick carle 185 star player ben watson 186/187 shaun derry captain and then these all half the size of the rest of the stickers 188 julian speroni 189 matt kawrence 190 clint hill 191 shaun derry 192 paddy mccarthy 193 jose fonte 194 james scowcroft 195 alan lee 196 nick carle 197 victor moses 198 sean scannell 199 danny butterfield 200 ben watson now the confusing bit for collectors without an album , if you want to send off for the palace only stickers you will have to order the following numbers as the small stickers come as a pair, 188 julian speroni 189 matt kawrence 190 clint hill 191 shaun derry 192 paddy mccarthy 193 jose fonte 194 james scowcroft 195 alan lee 196 nick carle you need to order 174 aron gunnarson 197 victor moses you need to order 170 guillama beuzelin 198 sean scannell you need to order 166 keiren westwood 199 danny buterfield you need to order 152 luke varney 200 ben watson you need to order 147 jonjo shelvey |
It's a pretty confusing numbering system - one wonders why panini couldn't just issue the half sized player stickers in same-club pairs?
One result though - not sure if it's done randomly, but my album already came with 6 stickers, and 3 of them were Palace - the large sized ones of Watson, Speroni and Carle! |
lol mine didnt . I should have gone through the albums in the shop ( already got 2 boxes on order ) so if anyone wants to swap etc etc .

you could complete the whole album online if you wanted , use different email addresses . ive done it before lol paid with the same credit card and sent to same address
