If you are connected to WiFi, it won't use your allowance at all. Away from WiFi however, and your Phone will use the 3g data and the amount will obviously depend upon what you are using your Phone to do.

Browsing the web (i.e. reading the BBS) will use a small fraction of your allowance, as will using Google maps, checking stock prices or the weather etc. Streaming from the Radio will use a bit more - around 1 or 2 MB per minute. Your 500MB would give you several hours listening to a streaming radio station (more or less depending upon the quality).

Video uses bandwidth fast. Again, there is no precise measure, because it depends upon the quality. HD video uses many times the bandwidth of standard video. Your data allowance won't last long if you spend much time on TV Catchup and/or watching YouTube videos without a WiFi connection.

Thanks for that :) I only really use it to check the sports results when I am at work on Saturday, and facebook at work so really do not use that much

Help please.

I'm after a lead that will Connect my iPhone 4 and iPad2 (that I intend to get shortly) to a tv and transfer videos and play sound. The video as it stands is on YouTube but hope to be able to save it to my iPhone/iPad or failing that play direct from YouTube.

Any recommended links would be great. It's for a wedding speech i have to do and to project pictures.

I have looked on amazon but varied reviews on some that say some advertised don't do as they say so need to know the one I get works for both video and sound and also for both iphone4 and ipad2.

TIA

Apple don't allow you to so but...

Buy an appleTV and you can send videos and music direct to the tellybox

And it's only 85 pounds - not much more expensive than a cable

How about this Dave, would this not allow me to?

That worked for me when showing vids and pics that I had added to my photo library from my mac when I visited the family in Nz recently. I'm not using mine at the mo so if you want to borrow to try before buying pm me and I'll lend it to you.

Query for people on 3 One Plan contracts: Why does the My3 page for my account show the amount of available Internet allowance for the month when the One Plan comes with "all you can eat data"? Surely that means my allowance is unlimited?

Is there a distinction between data obtained over wifi and 3G?

GodstoneEagle 23-11-2011 01:29 PM

Would Apple TV let me stream football from the internet, through my telly?

Brett 23-11-2011 01:38 PM

Not with the stock Apple software. You'd need to flash it.

GodstoneEagle 23-11-2011 02:12 PM

urgh

Voldo 23-11-2011 02:32 PM

Or get HDMI cable and a (model depending) mini dvi to hdmi adaptor.

Plug in. Change System Preferences to 'Mirror Screen' and you can stream away...

I reckon iPad 3 in March, iPhone 5 later in the year. Apple have never had such a short release cycle between phones before.

Adlerhorst 08-12-2011 08:22 PM

yep, that's my guess as well.

Hopefully they will have restocked the iPad by May when I hit the states next (assuming they have a vastly improved display - if not not bothering).
