Not that hard is it?

Been playing with this a couple of weeks now and it still bugs me. Why do I have to go to box bottom right then hit the X why can’t the simply allow you to hit the X in the first place and shut the window? How does android do it? And my god Siri is a pile of crap. Not as bad as bixby but still shocking. Google and Alexa are streaks ahead

I agree. Took my 5 year old iphone 5S to a place called "ismash" in Brighton (I know, I know) and they replaced the battery for £40. Takes half an hour.
They made a half-hearted attempt to upsale a couple of things but a polite no thanks was enough.

First charge gave me 3 days of battery - undreamed of luxury.

I arranged for my 6s to have the battery replaced, they did the diagnostic and I sent it off to the repair centre after paying the fee. Checked the status today and they have flagged that there is a fault with the speaker (that is literally all the info supplied) and the repair cost was now £260.

They refused to replace the battery unless I paid the full amount to fix something that I neither noticed nor wanted fixed, saying that they have to fix every fault they find if a phone goes in regardless of what the customer wanted doing to it. Obviously I told them to send it back and I’ll get the battery replaced by a third party shop.

Sadly true. I have 18 months left on my contract and my son keeps showing me all this cool stuff on his new Galaxy. As soon as its renewal time I'm off.
Funny enough my final straw was nothing to do with phones but the Apple printing service. Each year for the last 10 I made an Iphoto calendar and made 4 copies to send to family. I also made another 6 or so with Vista or Bonus print. The Apple ones where better quality and cost £25 a pop vrs £5. But I was happy to pay it for the Grandparents. This year they have sold the printing to some other company £50 a calendar they wanted :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash: **** off you greedy bastards. Q some slightly disappointed Grandparents, but at least they got a printed mug as well to make up for it for less than the orginal £25

I've just bought myself a new Android tablet and it's the first Android phone/tab I've ever used as always had iphones/ipads. I'm just finding more and more (especially as I'm into streaming), the restrictions with Apple are becoming more and more annoying. I'm quite pleased with the new Android tab and can see me putting the iPad way to gather dust.

Interesting as I posted about tablets on another thread and it was a distinct Ipad all the way know one else is close. I had a look at the Surface 10" on Tuesday and it looked great. Same price but with a keyboard etc. I use my Ipad for the odd app but mainly for media. I do add films but now Iplayer Now TV etch all support downloads havent added a film for ages. What I am getting fed up with is each IOS upgrade that I get suckered into performing, for whatever reason, slows the thing down more and more

Yep, that’s the thing. My iPad is quite a few years old now and is slow sluggish which it never was before. I’ve done a full factory reset and still the same. It was great when i first got it. I went into the Apple store to look at the big ones recently but you’re looking at a £1000 to get a decent one. I don’t know if the Android tab will also go slow In the future (like they make Apple products) but it’s great for what I paid for it (refurb from Argos). More so the fact I can do and download/sideload what I want.

I got one of these as the projector intrigued me and it's decent. Time will tell of course as it might turn to a sack of shit after a while but as an intro into Android it does what i want. I only paid £275 for the refurb. It's a shame it doesn't run on a newer Android version though although I'm hopeful with updates they might bring one out. It's a gazzilion times better than my old iPad is though. iOS is slick, but immensely restrictive.

Ok they have f65ked me up AGAIN. It miraculously did an auto update last night. Again another bloody moan that they keep trying to make you do it by changing which button to press. Now the films I have ripped from my DVDs have gone. I don’t want to buy shit from them I downy want to subscribe to their shorty service I just want to see my films ...........:veryangry Sorry for the outburst but can anyone help I can’t find them in the new Apple TV app. Google has been no help . Thanks

Isle of Wight 31-05-2019 07:45 PM

Ignore that I found the answer. Again for some reason the update deleted my films I simple had to ad them back and a new drop down of downloads appeared like it was in the old app phew

These thing are getting far to smart for their own good to the point of being patronizing...

My wife and I go every Thursday to a certain area that has various restaurants one after the other withing a short walking distance of each other.

As I get in the car to drive over there yesterday evening my phone pings and a Maps message pops up saying it is going to take 8 minutes to get to ***** street.

I'm 99% sure I did nothing to activate this, so can only assume the damn thing has been learning our habits... bloody talk about Big Brother!

Do I really need to be told in is going to take 8 minutes to get to somewhere I'm very familiar with... surly this is just the phone showing off!

Yep, mine does the same when I go to the gym, the times I go do vary, but it always seems to know, it's a bit weird.

GPS tracking.

I think this can be 'silenced' in Settings but then you'll get prompts if you use maps and other apps like transport e.g. trains, buses etc.

I saw the other day that Alexa stores for all time, every conversation while switched on. Amazon say everything is incripted and data protected but is never deleted!

Big Brother indeed.

I have a question about the Calendar on the iPhone. Looked up my question on Google, and not really seeing a definitive answer.

I downloaded from an airline my ticket/flight information to my calendar. I noticed that the return trip is showing the departure time in my time zone here, not the local time where I will be when taking this flight, i.e. there is a 3 hour time difference, and the flight is at 4:30pm local time, but shows on my calendar as 7:30pm.

Question: Does this automatically adjust to the correct local time when you are actually in that time zone?

I'm sure with so many worldly travelers on the BBS, someone would have experienced this before.

Adlerhorst 28-07-2019 07:14 AM

I don’t use the calendar on my phone, but can check this for you next week if you like

:p I was rather hoping you would see this, as I thought you were a good candidate to have an answer with all the traveling you do.

I'm not flying until the second week in September, so if you think of it, I would love to know how it works.

Actually I'm starting to wonder if it is an American Airlines error/glitch rather than the iPhone calendar. The outward journey seems to account for the time difference, but not the homeward flight.

Would be an obvious convenience ......... Our company software does something similar with flights and flight times.

El Aguila 28-07-2019 08:53 AM

It does adjust to the time zone you’re in. It will be correct when you’re at your destination.
