When I spoke to O2 they told me the cost for using web access/email via the iPhone was £3 per Mb in the EU and £6 per Mb elsewhere.

If he hasn't used email or the web then being charged for over 200Mb of usage does seem a tad high...

Having used the iPhone for a month now, I'm not overly impressed.

My daughter is though. Trust Apple to develop a device that a 2 year old can use. Although her Grandad looked confused when she shouted 'monkey balls!' at him :D

now im a know nothing techno phobe , but is this the norm , i.e an i-phone automatically hooks you up to the nearest internet provider ? .
.

Yes, that is correct

Kevin T 17-02-2009 01:56 PM

Regardless of being hooked up though, surely you would only be charged for actual data you actively download?

Dave 17-02-2009 01:58 PM

It's incoming and outgoing data.

200Mb is nothing over email/twitter

grey ghost 17-02-2009 02:46 PM

why ,then dave do you think i did not get any billing from the u.k for internet usage when the roaming function was enabled when we were back at christmas ?
i received an itemised bill with some sms charges but no internet usage .

as i said , when i have mentioned it to others they suggested this wasnt an isolated occurance for overseas users in thailand , indeed , it was rumoured that the i-phone actually comes with a written highlighted warning when sold in some regions ,about this very same scenario .

Dave 17-02-2009 02:48 PM

I have never heard of free cellular data when roaming unless it's a business tariff

Kevin T 17-02-2009 08:24 PM

I have push email setup on my iPhone so I would expect roaming charges, but I still don't see why if you were pulling your email from a POP3 account or whatever (and you didn't ask the iphone to do this) why you would incur any charges.

why would the iphone download email if you didn't ask it to?

Kevin T 17-02-2009 08:30 PM

Precisely. So why are you saying that his bill should be racked up with email/twitter when he says he's not used the iphone (apart from having it switched on)

I must be going mad, I can't see the part where he says it wasn't set up to download email

Kevin T 17-02-2009 09:43 PM

Ok - On more important matters. How does one uninstall apps installed through Cydia. You don't get a little cross to delete them when you do the icon jiggle maneouver.

Dave 17-02-2009 09:47 PM

tell me where he says the iphone wasn't set up to download email from first

Kevin T 17-02-2009 09:48 PM

S'ok - sussed it

I've only ever used the iphone with Push email so haven't investigated whether it sets automatic polling of pop3 mail as default.

So Kev apart from having the Bluetooth button on the start page has the Jailbreak been worth it and if so, why?

Am thinking about it for tethering purposes but wondered if anything else is worth the effort.

Kevin T 18-02-2009 08:42 AM

Some of the themes are really well done. I'm using this one at the moment.

Plus through bossprefs, I have a numerical battery indicator which shows my remaining power as a percentage rather than a bar.

But I've only just scratched the surface.

Are there any application for xbox live, so you can see your friends and stuff?
