The Addison Lee app is pretty cool. It will send you a cab to your location by knowing where you are from your phone location.

You have to have an Addison Lee account but they are pretty easy to get.

Need some help, considering 32gb Ipod Touch for one if not all my kids, are they any good for games? Are they better or worse than a DS lite or two different beasts?

Dave 07-12-2009 10:24 AM

My personal opinion is that the ds lite is much better for gaming, the real keyboard and dual screen as well as better games

CPFC Cheerleader Observer 07-12-2009 12:08 PM

Have to agree. Standard rules apply most of the time.

If you want to play games, buy a games console!

If you want to listen to songs, buy an mp3 player!

It seemed a do it all purchase, email, web, skype, games and music. Looked at games on you tube and the graphics looked better than the DS. but hadn't considered the lack of dpad, which means all games are movement or touch, which I can now see isn't ideal.

She has on her list a DS lite to replace her aged old original DS, and MP3/Ipod.

Ok slightly off topic but I could do with getting a Touch this Christmas. I don't want an iPhone as my Hero sits nicely in my pocket and I don't want an iPhone sized device with me all of the time.

8gb is £139 compared to 32gb at £209. Various relatives seem to be hinting that they are up for getting me the 8gb but I'm wondering whether it's worth throwing another £70 towards it myself for the bigger storage?

Ordinarily I'd take the opinion that you can never have enough storage but the only issue I have is that I never used to fill up my 4gb Mini. I prefer to rotate my music every now and then. As a case in point I have 40 songs on my Hero!

Obviously I didn't have apps or games on my Mini - but are they likely to take up that much space?

Games/Apps on the iphone/ipod touch normally take up about 2-4 meg each so it depends on how many apps you're planning on having

8 gig one is old version (despite being branded as 3rd gen by Amazon etc), only 32 & 64 offer the upgraded hardware.

Is that likely to make a huge difference to `the experience` though?

You won't miss what you have never had but I'd always try and get the latest hardware rev from Apple

Just been looking around the app store, not sure if it has been mentioned, but PandoraBox is a great little app which tells you which apps are on sale, what price they are at, for how long, and then links you to the app store.

All though I agree the ds is probably better overall for games unless you are a torrent junky and know how to get round it you will be paying £20+ for games and its bulkier than the iTouch.

Whereas with the touch you can get games from as little as 59p and also have a decent mp3 player to boot which can also go online to websites etc etc etc

TimeAdder is a time calculator, so you put in the minutes, or seconds, or hours, or all three, and it converts into any of them. Very useful when dealing with large hours, like 23798 in minutes.

If you are looking for games go for the DS it wins hands down IMO.

If you are looking for music and play games every now and again go for the touch. I wouldn’t sell my PSP/DS for a touch if it was on games personally.

Fantastic app, iPhone optimised browsing is great, but in itself not worth the £2.39 price in my opinion. However, the ability to download all or individual sections for offline browsing makes this a fantastic app, even at twice the price!

There is a free app called Splash of Color, does the same as ColorSplash but is free, does anyone know which is better since I would rather not buy the first one only to find the free one is better.

Thanks

BulletEagle 31-12-2009 07:10 PM

Disco mixx kidd, if you get it in time, download the app 12 days of christmas, I think its number 1 free download on the app store.

I recommend all of my apps, cannot say any of them don't work, they have all suited their purpose this last year hence why they have stayed on my iPhone and not been deleted.

The 12 days of xmas app there is another thread for have a look on there free downloads, todays is a film you might want, tomorrows a tv show.

You haven't fuccked up, just plug in the ipod to itunes and click sync and everything will be transfered across if you have the sync apps option ticked.

Any more problems just post.

and if you use safari there is a back arrow at the bottom of the page - it's pretty big and hard to miss.

Its a little buggy and can be infuriating but otherwise very good! I'm about to take Palace into the champions league this season! - so therefore maybe a little easy!

Bugs
It crashes a bit more than most games but it tries to do more than most games - if you get a phone call it wont return to the game itll quit you out
When you save games it doesnt always return to that point, and as there is no quit button this can be quite annoying as it normally returns to one of the autosaves it does

cons
Its very hard to move players on that are crap - so maybe realistic in that sense?:D
Can be a bit slow moving from section to section

EDIT:They've just brought out quite a big update which i havent gone into yet but theres loads of new screens and fingers X its more stable now-will report back when had a chance to muck around with it

paf 19-01-2010 02:42 PM

might have been mentioned but the "Moron Test" is well worth 59p of anyones money.

Playing with TouchMouse this morning which allows you to turn your iPhone into a remote control for your mac.

Works really well and as well as being able to control the mouse pointer, it has a keyboard layout so you can actually remotely type type on your computer!

I bet you one million pounds you will use it less than five times

I'll have the million pounds then as i used it last night whilst hooking my laptop to the tele to watch a film.

Plus used it this morning to click licensing and agreeing buttons on installations on a machine that was on the other side of the room!
Very useful to save getting off your arse! :)

If you need a remote control WHY ON EARTH would you use a mobile phone and NOT a remote control?

I can use my electric toolbrush to play ping pong, doesn't mean I should.

Oh you love a good discussion dont you! ;)

Its a funky FREE app and my phone is always next to me to use as a remote is all.

Mellors tried to convince me that using your phone to control XBMC was cool.

It's not.

All to your own then.

The thread is called 'recommendations'. So we can all post we we think, doesnt mean anyone else has to use them.

Whatsapp

Lets you instant message, including picture messaging, using your internet allowance so you dont pay for any text messages or picture messages again. Only works between Iphones but if oyu have a lot of mates with Iphones it is worth using

Remote to control iTunes is pretty useful during a party/gathering when you can hand the phone around to get people to add songs to a playlist.

I think they are arguing about airmouse rather than the remote control app (which is very very good).

I used airmouse to control my Mac when i want to actually use it as a PC, instead of a media center.

My wireless mouse is too jerky at that distance away.
I need a bluetooth one I think

Anyone has a look at Vouchercloud? Was in today's Sun and is quite good. Picks up your location and shows you any shops and food around your area with vouchers. U can then get the voucher on ur phone to use.
