OK, cheers! I did think they were probably pretty standard given all the 1908 comments floating about earlier, but you never know.

I was reframing an old picture I have and behind the picture I found a set of Player's cards. Only 9 so not a full set. One was of H. Thoms. It is from the 1928-29 2nd series 51-75. He didn't play many games for us. Why would he be featured?

Dorking .Eagle 21-04-2004 12:35 PM

Dunno but it's not rare at all - worth about £1

Bintang 21-04-2004 01:35 PM

Guessed it wasn't worth much, just wondered why he was included.

Not sure why - I have a reference book at home, will look into it.

Most likely because that was the old Palace player's photo available to the artist at the time. This was 1920's, we were a lowly team and sport photograpy was in its infancy. I doubt that there was a wide choice of reference material.

A nice find though :)

What Neil said is the most likely answer
Looking at the listing of subjects, it was simply a set of 25 cards, each from a different club, and with the novelty of being a colour issue, was as much about showing the different club colours amongst those 25 clubs, as it was about the actual players.
We were in Division 3 so had no players that were "stars" so Neils answer is the most likely.

Thanks guys. Anyone want the card? I collect programmes but not cards. Cost - a pint next time I'm back.

Could someone possibly e-mail me with the most recent list of cards. I purchased a couple on eBay last week (including the 1928-29 H.Thoms card) and am keen to see what else is out there.
