Blackberry (can't remember which model) and Vodafone for one.
|
Blackberry would be the best example but others are guilty of exclusivity - Samsung for example
|
I've got my 5800, it looks hot :)
|
Teaser got a G1 so I got my Iphone G2 back - unlocked and work sim in there!
Two iphones is a little excessive but I am looking forward to having an iphone on a decent network. I forgot how good the G2 Iphone feels, the flat metal back is lush! |

Question - jailbreaking.
Is this a bad thing to do? Can 'they' see when you've done it? Will the new 3.0 OS overwrite it and I'll have to do it again? I'm thinking that I want to get a slingbox and that new-fangled app, but it seems a bit pointless if you can only view it over wifi and not 3g - apparently, if you're jail, er, broken, you can get an app that confuses the phone into thinking that 3g is wifi? Is it hard to actually do? I'm a bit of a geek, but not so much that it all comes naturally... |

By they I mean the overlords of Apple and O2 - it's not going to get me in any trouble, I mean?
Any walkthroughs? Special equipment needed? |
02 won't know
no equipment needed. Just backup your phone then install quickpwn It's idiotically easy It's worth it for 5 icons on your winterboard and email icons at the top |
How long is the O2 exclusivity of this product?
|
Ok, so I'm dim - by 'backup your phone', do you mean sync with itunes, or like, physically copy the memory?
|
backup with itunes

Rumours on the new iphone.
The new iPhone will be available July 17 and will have a bunch of new features, including video recording and editing, a digital compass, turn-by-turn directions, and a better battery, according to an obscure blog called iPhone Apps. The blog, who no one has ever heard of before, claims to have been contacted by a “reputable source,” who is “closely connected to Apple’s hardware development team.” Whatever. I’m dubious, but the rumor somewhat gels with previous rumors and the site’s detail and specificity lend the claims are certain credence. Kinda. Full specs after the jump. * 32GB and 16GB to replace current capacities * $199 and $299 price-points to be maintained * 3.2 Megapixel camera * Video recording & editing capabilities * Ability to send a picture & video via MMS * Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device * OLED screen * 1.5X The battery life * Double the RAM and processing power * Built-in FM transmitter * Apple logo on the back to light up * Rubber-tread backing * Sleeker design * Built-in compass * Revolutionary combination of the camera, GPS, compass, and Google maps to identify photo and inform about photo locations. * Turn by turn directions * July 17th, 2009 release date There’s a few fishy features here. The site says the new iPhone will include a built-in FM transmitter (WTF, to put Griffin out of business?), double the processing power, and an OLED screen. An OLED screen would certainly afford better battery life (maybe this is where the 1.5X battery life comes from). However, they aren’t yet shipping in volume yet. An OLED screen would be expensive, adding considerable cost to the new handset, which makes it unlikely. http://cultofmac.com/new-iphone-spec...e-leaked/10921 |
a good number of those features do seem a bit unlikely. but i think its safe to say that the iphone is a couple of generations away from being the all-conquering mobile device bar none. yes buttons will always have a place, but the majority are willing to sacrifice all of that for the mental interface and apps.
talking about jailbreaking i saw a site yesterday which allows jail broken iphones/ipods to download .mp4 files straight from the net or indeed stream them. needed a cydia app called dTunes or something? i saw films like Star Trek, Watchmen, Wolverine etc all of which could be downloaded straight onto the memory. Awesome. Around 250 mb too, so not massive. |
I'm clearly doing this wrong - I've no desire to unlock the iphone, just jailbreak it - but, the quickpwn I've downloaded (and it looks to be the correct one), won't recognise the phone.
Any advice? |
Actually, did that bit, but now it's hanging on the apple :s
Now definitely need advice! |
