My iPhone is so shit and slow these days. Has anybody else noticed this with os3? Maybe I need to un-jailbreak and lose all my lovely apps :(

is there a task manager app like android? I can see what processes/apps are running in the background and switch them off, ie it always boots up calendar and maps that I dont need running.

This makes it much faster.

Nope - don't think so.

Dave will have more idea, but google throws up

Hold down the “Home” button for about 6 seconds. Your resources will then be freed up, and you’ll be dropped back to the Home Screen ready for a fresh, clean start.

Faster and easier than a full reset, it can get you out of an App jam or improve the “snappiness” of your iPhone in general.

only other thing I saw was something called 'winterboard' can slow things down.

Kevin T 15-07-2009 01:37 PM

Aha. I use Winterboard for my desktop themes. Maybe, I'll get rid.

jimos_uk 15-07-2009 01:51 PM

Get SBSettings - under processes there's an option to free memory. It can make a difference.

jimos_uk 15-07-2009 01:52 PM

Oh, and Winterboard is the cause, but I've got a lockscreen that I can't bear to get rid of (Gruppled - it puts a calendar, weather, mail and texts so you can see previews. Love it.).

Kevin T 15-07-2009 02:03 PM

I'll lose Winterboard I think. The only things I'd hate to lose is SwapBT and QTweeter.

Kevin T 15-07-2009 02:20 PM

Got rid of Winterboard and it's flying now. I can cope with the standard Apple look if it means I get better performance.

patch 16-07-2009 02:00 PM

Right off to Spain for a while next week, apart from turning data roaming off is there any other settings that need to be changed? Also is it possible to hook up to wifi to download emails and not pay excessive data costs?

Thanks in advance

Patch

Just turn off data roaming

Heb 7:4 23-07-2009 10:30 AM

Got my iPhone yesterday. Am so loving it :)

Dave 23-07-2009 11:32 AM

you picked a good day to join the gang, massive 02 data outage

Heb 7:4 23-07-2009 11:35 AM

I have to confess I don't know exactly what that means, but I'm not experiencing any trouble.

Bit worried by quite how fast the battery runs down, but then I am trying to run it down so I can do a full charge. But still, browsing email and the BBS drains the life at a shocking rate. Am hoping this will improve after a full charge.

So impressed though dude. Going to wait till my number is transferred (tomorrow) then jailbreak.

My iphone aquisition is on hold after 02 have cancelled the O2 Open Membership for iphone 3GS. Not enough stock so they want people paying full whack and not getting 33% off the tariff.

Sad times.

Here's a good demonstration of augmented reality being used in a forthcoming app:

Dave I'm of to Italy. I've turned Data Roaming Off. Will accessing e-mails via O2's Italian Carrier be hideously expensive?

Also, if i take my lap top is it worth locally buying a dongle for it? I am told there is 'some' 3g coverage where I'm staying.

yes to the first question. it doesnt matter that it's o2 locally, it could be anyone

as for the dongle, maybe a good idea but i din't know if you can just buy dongles, they normally have to be bought with a contract

fang 26-07-2009 12:01 PM

Thanks for that. I've tried getting through to O2 to find out how 'hideously expensive' but spent 20 mins waiting in a queue before giving up.
