ooh - it seems to have started working! have managed to boot into DFU mode at work. Will try a restore here to see if I can get it running before taking it back home and restoring my data there. Huzzah!

I am getting an upgrade next week. After reading this there is no way I am going to get an Iphone.

Its only a fukking phone, sounds like it is causing everyone loads of grief.

PalaceMonkey 24-08-2009 12:11 PM

anna matronic 24-08-2009 12:12 PM

well, it is restoring the firmwire (3.0.1) and has been doing so for the last 40 minutes. Will leave it to do it's stuff for a bit and see how it gets on.

Anyone recommend any reasonable insurance packages for the phone?

now I've 'roadtested' mine for a few weeks theirs no denying its an amazing bit of kit ! I'm sure I'm not using its full functionality but its great. the only minor moans (and lets face it these are pretty minor !!) are the (i) lack of signal - but not as bad as I thought and I even survived the IOW ! (ii) battery runs down quite quickly when you are writing emails or on the internet. This is obviously a minor prob and will be less and less as technology improves !! :)

Insurance just makes an expensive piece of kit more expensive, why doesn't your household insurance over it?

My bank covers my iphone for free. Check with your bank if they cover your phone as most banks have a free or an additional fee for insuring phones.

We don't all have household insurance. Or even households :(

Anyway, this was the best one I found. It covers loss, which is the key. There are cheaper ones (not by much though) that just do theft and damage if you prefer, but this seemed the best one I could find for the money

Still not working. wouldn't reinstall at work and home machine won't even see the phone. GOing to wait until Broadband is installed on Thursday and see if I can get it going then. If not, it's going back to the menders.

It does - with a £150 excess. Was hoping to find something a bit more reasonable than the O2 offer with a suitably low excess.

Can't really afford to stump up £350 to replace if I am uninsured.

Cheers.

Mine has just died! Was logging on to email, forgot about it for a few minutes, pressed the home button and nothing!...blank screen!

Tried pressing standby button, home button etc etc.....

USB is at home so can't sync to itunes till later. Will this sort the problem? Any other ideas?
