They’re working their way through 1977/78 season at the moment, the season we finished 9th after promotion from division 3

Nice one:p I love these old big matches, it doesn’t seem that long ago to me, but when you see the kits, the pitches, the dodgy hair, the old grounds, how football was presented, it seems like a million years ago now and like another planet

Don't forget the not being ripped off by the clubs in terms of ticket prices etc.

No sodding about with digital tickets either, or any tickets, when I was still at school my dad used to bung me a couple of quid and off I went, 5p for the bus, 90p to get in, 20p programme, bag of chips and a gerkin before the game and still have change

Thank God on a personal level. With parents both on a minimum wage, there is no way I could’ve afforded to attend games regularly had the prices been what they became.

Ah, cheers, we lost 1-2, Osgood, Boyer, Macdougall, Ball, Holmes etc, tough dirty side they were then.

Only 3 players in Southampton's team that afternoon survived from their FA Cup winning line-up of just 17 months earlier; PEACH, HOLMES and OSGOOD.

I'm not sure why there had been such a large turnover in personnel in such a short period of time. Of the cup-winning line-up, only Mick Channon seemed to go on to better things with a spell at Maine Road before returning to The Dell. The rest either dropped down to the lower divisions with a few going to America. Mel Blyth of course turned up back at Palace on loan a couple of weeks later.

All-in-all, that was a pretty ropey cup-winning line-up. What could have been ...

Great to see the win at Stoke. Sending off probably justified for Graham, however it seemed like similar tackles from them (particularly on Swindlehurst) went unpunished. Treat to see Garth Crooks failing hard. Sweet goal from Perrin

And our god awful kit! Nice to see Doris get in a bit of retribution and get away with it (although to be fair, players got away with a lot then).

I agree, not one of our better kits, spurs wore it as well around that time

Also about your point about players getting away with a lot more back then, brilliant wasn’t it? So much more enjoyable to watch with two teams going at each other and getting stuck it, it really used to get the crowd involved as well.

Interesting to hear Martin Tyler (sort of) suggest that Chico Hamilton was a Palace fan. Not heard that before. Born in Streatham. Fella won a League Cup winners medal with Villa.

Just watched this, I was there under the tv stand but don’t remember much about it. I don’t even remember the ref getting one in the gonads. :D
