Waiting on a text to see if my daughter's class is one of the lucky ones.

WTF has happened to our country?

The Tory Party, the referendum, followed by the takeover of the Tory party by its lunatic fringe leading to catastrophic governance, incompetence and a suicidal form of Brexit.

And yet they still have their supporters and will get a sizable percentage of the next GE votes.
It's important to point out that the majority of the UK population have been enablers in the "what has happened to the UK? answer.

(yes, yes, I know.. the true majority don't or did not vote Tory nor did the majority of the UK pop vote for Brexit, but enough people did to enable both the Tories and Brexit)

Thanks IoW (and Maidstoned). I genuinely feel more care and heartfelt sentiment in your messages than anything that comes from my father's mouth.

My mum, I just feel sorry for, having lived with him that long.

Sorry Digger. It sounds like it's the hope that kills you. Hope you can somehow acheive and maintain an adult emotional distance, rather than be provoked into the emotions of your childhood.

At least he has to go back soon!

Having to drive for nearly an hour tomorrow for a meeting about "Team Morale"

FFS team morale would be a lot higher if we didn't have to attend such stupid bloody meetings!!

Maybe bring that up at the meeting.

You may have heard about the Southwest Airlines plane that was flying from Havana, Cuba, to Fort Lauderdale that a bird strike caused smoke to pour into the passenger cabin causing the plane to have to return to Havana.

I just saw a video taken from inside the cabin when it landed... yes there was a lot of smoke and the deployed the emergency procedures and evacuated the aircraft via slides.

A couple of thing that are pretty annoying about this... 1) People were actually filming this rather than concentrating on getting out of the plane/listening to instructions from the crew, and 2) people were collecting their carry-on luggage (mostly oversized... but that's another post) and trying to squeeze though the crowds and the emergency exit over the wings with their cases, or even down the chutes with them. This goes against everything you are instructed to do in an emergency.

People eh?

I suspect it is one of those meeting where you are expected to listen and nod. Anything else is considered divisive and potentially grounds for dismissal.

it's tempting, though the idiot area manager who's organised it hates me enough already!!

PeterH 07-03-2023 09:38 PM

There you go.

Suck it up.

Don't let it destroy your confidence so much that it stops you interviewing elsewhere.

I worked for a company called Wurth UK, they had a big sales conference over the Christmas period up near Birmingham, all the teams were complaining about it but said **** all at the time...especially as we didn't get paid for it. I went, left at lunch, fiddled my expenses and a month later, spent a week on their time taking my Class 2 HGV, had a meeting with the area manager and told him to stick his job.

Left the company car, sales material etc in the car park of Little Chef on the A20 (where we had the meeting) and got a lift home from my wife at the time.

Team colours by the score on the TV graphics that make it look like they've had a Red card. Feck off with team colours. Anyone who can't work it out for themselves doesn't f*cking care.

The amount of whinging and pessimism on the way to the ground today. Not sure why some people bother. Don't see how you can be a palace fan without a bit of blind optimism/delusion!

Going for a menu del dia at a local events and being served by a waiter proudly displaying his bright green "Vox" wristband.

For those who dont know, Vox is a Spanish right wing political party that is somewhat akin to (though not as extreme as) Britain First.

Let’s face it, Spain has got form for that type of thing.

I will have to google this. I think the time to evacuate is normally 90 seconds and the cabin crew are quite capable of achieving this, but this filming is a new thing and a risk I reckon

Yeah, the older I get, the more tiresome I am of this sort of corporate box ticking. All the nonsense around ‘Well-being’ for example…it feels so empty. Some (well paid) management consultancy has probably instructed some senior managers how to roll out a well-being program, at great cost, which seems to have minimal engagement from employees. Instead, just give that budget to your employees directly, which would actually have a positive impact on their well-being. I don’t need someone emailing me tips on how to budget during a cost of living crisis or inviting me to a ‘how to meditate’ session during my lunch break. I hate the pretence that this sort of stuff is important to employees, am I alone in finding it utterly useless and patronising?

I suppose the downside of working at a very large organisation, too much box-ticking invented by people with not enough actual work to do.

The older catetos still have Francoist tendencies to be honest. I was just surprised at this guy's blatantness, especially as he serves many foreigners during the day.

Needless to say, I won't be returning.
