I'm afraid I always do this as we get cars/lorries/bicycles/vans coming out of the blue at a billion miles an hour. Last time I risked it, I ended up having to leg it across the road, slipped up and landed on some broken glass.

You get a 10-second countdown after the 'green man' goes out on the crossing opposite Croydon Univerisity Hospital, and I sometimes struggle to make that. I would never risk crossing without a green man as too many cars go at a fair lick. There ae too many mad bstards out there, so I wait until they are supposed to stop.
