Mrs Smoz's iphone 3g is kaputt. It is only a couple of months old, I have made an appointment at the Regent Street store tomorrow but thought that I would also seek help here.
Able to send/receive SMS ok but unable to make calls (receives message "call failed" when attempted). Incoming calls ring as normal but when answered unable to hear/be heard. Web access and ipod functions seem to be fine. Have tried a restore via itunes to no avail. Have alsp followed the suggestions on apple's support pages (ie restore via itunes, reboot etc), still no joy. Anyone got any ideas? |
Might be worth giving o2 a call too. It seems to me that it's not a phone issue if you've done a restore.

I didn't think that it was a network fault as she can send receive texts and access the web via 3g using it. However no harm in trying I suppose, will look up their number and give them a try. |
Can you connect an iPhone to Microsoft Exchange to get mail/calendars etc? Don't want to use OWA really.

You can and the emails are all formatted perfectly. It's just like looking at Outlook basically.

Update, it was faulty, Apple Store replaced it, you can all stop worrying now. |
did you buy via 02?
|
No, she originally bought it at the Apple Store in Regent Street.

2.2.1 firmware released today, doesn't seem to be anything too exciting though, just bug fixes.

Is there any way to find out how many text messages I've sent? Don't want to go too far over my limit and I'm not sure I'm in the mood for counting messages from over 30 conversations.

it'd benefit Apple not to be exclusive surely?
O2 must have paid lots & lots to get exclusivity |
I think O2 signed a 5 year deal with Apple for the Iphone, could be wrong but I think it was 5 years.
|
When I gave notice on my T-mobile contract, saying I was moving to O2 for the iphone, they told me the exclusivity expires in 2009, and then T-mobile would also be able to offer it.
Of course I believed him. |
According to the Guardian O2's contract with Apple runs until 2012. There was an option for renegotiation after two years but this has apparently passed without any change.
|
I got bored of waiting to be elligable for an upgrade with 02 so phoned them today and piled on the pressure. My new iPhone should be with me Monday / Tuesday :D

I'm on the £30 one Steve. 600 minutes and 600 texts pm plus free insurance for £30 seems pretty good to me.
|
My phone bill is always between £50 and £60 so the £45 tarriff with unlimited downloads, 1200 mins and 500 texts seems good to me.

I went ahead and jailbroke my 3g iphone but alas, 3g doesn't seem to work anymore. Will restore when I'm back at work next week and potentially try again.

Then she got one and now she is as obsessed with it as I am. :D |

My Jesus Phone arrived today. I went into work at about 3pm and then someone remembered to tell me it had arrived as I was leaving at 6pm.
Got it charging for a couple of hours until James goes to bed, then I shall set it all up :) Putting the Sim in is fiddly innit! |
Activate it asap

I want one of these but my current contract doesn't expire until October (am on an 18 month one). Have to wait till then. Gay.

I managed to convince my fiance to give me permisson to get a Jesus phone. :lux: (I needed permission as we're planning a wedding and don't want too much extra outlay...)
Now it's just a matter of saving for the security deposit ($150) and getting one. |

I convinced O2 to give me one for free today. Just upgrading my tariff to £35 a month. |

iPhone is cool. It didn't sync my music to start with. Had to set it to manual syncing then unchecked it again, and off it went. Itunes has also tried and failed to download the new firmware about 5 times. I think I'm having some wireless issues tonight. |

They upgraded me about 6 weeks early but I gave them a sob story saying work were putting me under pressure to get me to take the PDA they were offering on t-mobile
|
I was also paying between £50-£60 monthly. It's your monthly spend that's important here. I don't fancy your chances to be honest.

I dunno. Just ask them what you have to do to get one now!

http://www.macrumors.com/2009/01/09/...uct-timelines/ There have also been reports of iphone 2.1 being detected in use in the south SF Bay area, there is plenty of speculation that this is 'evidence' of the new model being tested in the wild http://www.pinchmedia.com/iphone-21/ All of this is currently just blog talk so take it with a pinch of salt. |
Will be upgrading mine to it's 3G uncle this week. Will try and replicate Blind's deal.
|
Does anyone know much about the o2 fair usage download policy on the iphone? I asked if there was a download limit and they said no. I asked if there was a fair usage policy and they said 'yes, but it's huge and it won't cause you a problem'
I only ask as I've just downloaded the LBC radio application, and there's a disclaimer that it downloads shed loads of data as you listen. |
MatOV.fm on the jesus phone, I could cry.
There is no data limit. I have streamed last.fm for entire days on 3G, to the point where the phone was so hot I thought the black plastic would melt. |

I won't be getting an iPhone just yet after all. I can't feasibly spend $300 on a phone and then spend another $90 every month.
I am coming in to a little money soon, so maybe then - but we'll see. |
What bad luck

You get 400 minutes of call time, and they charge you for calls received as well as made. You get 400 text messages, and they include the ones you receive as well as the ones you send. And then they charge you a fortune for the pleasure. :sob: Gutted. |
Sounds like the septics get a really bad deal. Here the phone is free on an upgrade (£50 to upgrade to 16GB) then I think you get 1200 minutes and 500 texts for £45 per month (inc of VAT)
|
Upgraded from 2G to 3G. Had to pay £155 for the handset (16GB), staying on my £35pm deal.
Hoping to recoup the money by selling this one. |

I made a point of never having one. There was a stage where everyone had them. I've always found them to be really poorly made and went down the SE route instead.

What are the differences between the two models (apart from slightly faster browsing with 3G?)

on the down side, i have to buy the iphone (or A.N.Other i guess) as a phone only deal which means it's steep - 500 quid. is it worth it? i know in the UK i'd end up paying for it through my contract but here, where it's a big chunk i can't help thinking that's a lot of money for a bloody telephone! |

Got a slight problem lads that I need some assistance with if you would be so kind.
I have my iPhone setup to automatically connect to my WiFi when I get home which it does but as soon as I go to load a webpage it drops the wireless and uses plain 2g signal, any ideas? I have tried a reset, tried switching to aeroplane mode and back, and I have tried forgetting the network and re connecting but it is still doing the same thing. |
does it all back to edge when doing mail too?
|
Anyone playing Real Football 09 on their iphone? £3.49 but definitely worth it in my opinion. Just try not to get caught playing it at work...
|
Not as far as i am aware.
|
sounds to me like your wireless isn't connected at all
|
It must be, the wireless symbol pops up until I try to load a webpage, in the settings it says it is connected to my network as well. Also have it setup to automatically connect to my Mums WiFi when I go round there and that works fine.
|
That wireless symbol doesn't mean much, ditto 3g or E
|
It must mean something otherwise there is no point in having it
|

What IP does it show? |
I'll let you know later when I get home.
Just seems strange as I set it up exactly the same way as I did at mums only yesterday. One works, one doesn't, I have tried forgetting both just in case they are conflicting but nothing. |
It might be connecting but not getting an ip address -
|
If it is doing that Dave then how would I fix it?
Only been doing it since I installed my new Netgear Wireless Router so maybe it is a setting on there? |
Yeah - if it connects fine on other routers then it's the new router for sure.
When you get home - turn on wireless then log into the router and see if you can see your Iphone connected under attached devices or similar |

Nope, don't worry, it had access restriction on my router so although it was saying it had connected to the router anytime you wanted to actually use the connection it would drop out, all sorted now.
