Then click on 'your old iPhone'

All sorted, just called upgrade line and they said that the previous owner will de-register their current iPhone when they get their new one. When i receive the de-registered iPhone, i plug it in to iTunes to register it under my name and can choose my new tariff then.

:)

cheers for your help people

Where is 2.0? Apps are useless without it.

daverambo2 10-07-2008 10:30 PM

I know, just purchased some apps from the apps store and then find I can't use them!

daverambo2 10-07-2008 10:40 PM

Can get 2.0 early here.

I understood it would be available today but iTunes is still reporting 1.1.4 as the current version.

Shoreditch CPFC 11-07-2008 10:22 AM

what does this mean? Is it an upgrade for the old Iphones? The new ones will have this built in right?

Blind_Eagle 11-07-2008 10:35 AM

Yup it's a software upgrade for existing iPhones.

Brett 11-07-2008 10:38 AM

It's software for all iPhones.

Early 3G iPhones are reported to be shipping with the 1.1.4 firmware so they'll need to be updated via iTunes as with iPhone Mk 1.

There were no queues at all outside the O2 shop in Christchurch.

Dave, i've got no problems with the O2 site. I just logged on to learn that my order is 'being processed'. No change there since Wed. Bit pissed as I could have just strolled down the road and bought one without all the problems trying to do it online.

off to get it now

ian_the_eagle 11-07-2008 12:12 PM

Playing with my iphone 3g now and I love it! :p

If anyone is hoping to get a 16gb I wouldn't hold your breath, I had to settle for a 8gb!

Sorry if it has been covered in a previous post, but how do you transfer files from itunes onto the iphone?!

Thanks in advance!:p

Dave 11-07-2008 12:14 PM

Damn - no 16s left

ian_the_eagle 11-07-2008 12:18 PM

Hate to say I told you so!

Dave 11-07-2008 12:28 PM

I'm not bothered - still have my Iphone V1

ian_the_eagle 11-07-2008 12:35 PM

Fair enough...I've been struggling along with a SE P990 for nealy 2 years...this is amazing!

Could you point me in the right direction to get some songs on here?!

Dave 11-07-2008 12:41 PM

On your Iphone?

Install Itunes, drag music over, sync, rock out

ian_the_eagle 11-07-2008 12:59 PM

Doesn't seen to be letting me do it?! I don't know if you have to change the format of the file?

cumbrian_eagles 11-07-2008 01:02 PM

Just go in, got the last one from O2 Kendal at just after 12 :lux: about 5 people came in while I was there asking about it. One guy was still there finding out what it all did. My 3G sim won't be activated for 24-48 hours, but screw it I got the phone :D

ian_the_eagle 11-07-2008 01:16 PM

Fair enough, that's easy enough! Were they able to sort it out for them then?

My sim has been activated, just got a call offering insurance for £99.99 for the full 18 months compared to the £30 a quarter they were trying to flog me this morning!

So if you are going to get i insured, I would wait for a phone call and save £80...just don't get mugged on the way home!

cumbrian_eagles 11-07-2008 01:48 PM

first post from the iPhone. A little of getting used to but nice so far.

ian_the_eagle 11-07-2008 03:47 PM

I think I've cracked it! You have to create a playlist, and sync the playlsit and the phone. I've not found another way of doing it yet but that works!

I happened to walk past the O2 shop again at lunchtime and the windows were plastered with signs which basically said 'We haven't got any more iPhones so piss off and leave us alone' :D

If the iPhone is anything like an iPod, you should just be able to tick the 'Manually manage music' box in the Summary tab section. You'll be able to drag and drop things then.

What do you mean how good? It's using google maps isn't it? So if you like google maps then it should be all good.

As for the strength of signal / ability to get locks - I'm guessing it will be as tricky as other mobiles.

Brett 11-07-2008 05:03 PM

iTunes overloaded. I suppose giving first generation owners an extra day to upgrade firmware would have been too obvious?

Brett 11-07-2008 05:46 PM

o2 has taken the upgrade link down from their webshite.

Ridcully 11-07-2008 07:31 PM

Got a 16Gb today :)

Loads of phones left at Apple store at Lakeside, 8 and 16Gb in both white and black (well there was at 1730).

Ok so what apps are worth having?

Free and paid for.

cumbrian_eagles 13-07-2008 04:51 PM

ipint is fun for about 30secs and netnewswire is good for rss feeds and of course the iTunes remote. I haven't tried any paid for ones until any other suckers have paid for them and reviewed them.

Brett 13-07-2008 05:54 PM

You might want to look at Google Reader which has an interface optimised for the Iphone

You gotta load a piece of software onto your computer... at least thats what I did until I tried Google reader like Dave suggested!

Ridcully 14-07-2008 02:48 PM

I'm with Dave...Google reader all the way, just don't need anything else.

AndyStreet 14-07-2008 03:08 PM

Ta. Google Reader is much better. :p

Dave 14-07-2008 03:14 PM

Google reader is cool but of course there is no offline support. An rss reader that downloaded your feeds entirely so you can read them online /offline is the answer

I might try and build one

cumbrian_eagles 14-07-2008 03:20 PM

arussell 14-07-2008 03:26 PM

So I'm guessing I should be looking to get one to replace my sim card hacked original Iphone then, from all that I'm reading on here.

Some of the stuff in the apps store does look good.

Rumours already on the net about hacked 3G iphones. Don't know if they work or not, but there's a few listed on Ebay too.

What would be supper cool was if the Iphone supported updating your recently listened lists etc. The only place where I update my listings is work and I don't think it does that right all the time because some of my tunes have missing or screwed metadata

I was really put off by how much of a shambles O2 customer service is.

I ordered the device last monday and got a confirmation email from them stating delivery within 5 working days subject to credit checking.

I called on Thursday as I had heard nothing from them. I was told that I couldn't have ordered the iPhone as they were only available on the 11th. I was told that delivery was within 10 working days not 5 as per the confirmation email.

I was then told my account was in the process of being scored. It takes 3 days for a business credit check (even though t-mobile, Vodafone and Orange can turn a business connection around on the spot) and they were doing it at that point.

I got a call on Friday from a member of the sales team about me registering an interest in the iPhone and asking if I was interested in ordering one.

I called this morning to see if there was an update - I was told the account had been approved on Wednesday (the day before I called last week and was told it was being scored) but they needed me to send in copies of proof of ID and proof of address. I should have been called about this last wednesday.

At that point I decided to cancel the order as if O2 are that bad at processing an order, I didn't want to have to deal with them if I had any sort of issue.

I walked into Vodafone at 2:00 and walked out with a new windows mobile device within 30 minutes.

CPFC Town 14-07-2008 05:57 PM

Tuner is a great app for listening to online radio on your iphone/touch. Worth the 3 quid pad. (Does eem to have very positive reviews as well now on itunes).

I knwo this may not be the best thread to ask in but im looking for a dock for my touch possibly with inbuilt speakers does anyone have any recommendations.

The prices for the officical dock with no speakers is a rip off imho, so looking for alternatives.

Thanks for the suggestion. Looking to get best value for the amount of notes spent.

As i can now get internet radio via the ipod and the remote app by apple i feel i can use it as a replacement for a hifi system.

Was looking at the JBL On Site which seems more compact then those suggested so far. But 222 reviews for your recommendation says loads about the product imho.

Thanks :p
