I know but I didn't think you could set google maps as the default which is what I currently have so when I click on a customers postcode it automatically takes me to google maps not apple maps. I've just spent the weekend going back to v10 from v11 in iTunes as the other half mistakenly "upgraded". No iTunes DJ, no ability to resize album or movie icons, scroll scroll scroll. These guys really need to take a good look at themselves as they seem to be screwing up everything. I won't even start on the new iMac compared to the old. iOS 7 does look good though so I recon I will just miss 6 completely.

Isle of Wight 24-06-2013 11:29 PM

Just out of interest how do you go backwards?

Adlerhorst 24-06-2013 11:46 PM

IT LIVES!!!!!!!!!

Adlerhorst 01-07-2013 07:07 PM

It doesn't live.

Totally dead. Apple store cannot fix.

Does anyone have an old iphone I can borrow until Apple release a new one.

Just giving Dolphin a go and its very nice browser. Will try it for a bit as early impressions are nice.

Nice! I knew about Traktor, but not the others! Bought BADLAND the other week and love it!

I downloaded it the other night and removed it almost instantly.
Whilst the tech behind it is clever (for an app) e.g. the ability to sync 2 tunes straight from your phone, it bugs me how they refer to it as anything with the name 'DJ' after it. The minute the sync button is engaged you aren't 'DJing' although I understand that is a whole different argument and one thats been done to death.
Therefore if you wanted to use this as a 'DJ' tool without using sync then it's just too fiddly IMO.

Tomo 11-07-2013 11:51 AM

Sorry, I was using on my ipad. I found it really good.

I wouldn't bother on my phone to be honest.

Away 07-08-2013 05:37 PM

Sorry if this has been covered - I did do a search - what data usage apps do people recommend? I've just switched from Android using My Data Manager, but the iOS version doesn't seem to break down wi-fi and mobile by app.

It splits wi-fi vs mobile and breaks down by app, but I specifically want to see what apps are using my mobile and couldn't care less if I'm using loads of wi-fi on Safari for example.

Heb 7:4 07-08-2013 05:53 PM

Think I read that ios7, due out next month, has that built in. Will see if I can find link

Heb 7:4 07-08-2013 05:57 PM

Hmm. It seems that you can track mobile data usage in ios7. Not sure that's quite what you were after?

http://i.imgur.com/yn0ko7A.jpg

Can also restrict which apps can use mobile data, which is handy

FORZA SELHURST 07-08-2013 07:10 PM

I thought you could do that anyway?

Heb 7:4 07-08-2013 07:14 PM

I don't know currently how to measure app by app data usage over mobile, and I think data over mobile is either on or off rather than app by app.

Though I've not investigated it much.

That sort of looks like it. I want to know which apps need to be kept away from mobile data use - or restricted to when I choose.

Android seemed to have clearer options, and mobile data usage seems a lot less transparent on iOS, but maybe the data use is alarming because I'm doing things like checking the 'backup to iCloud' and then wandering into my office which is out of reach of my WiFi. (Actually I've now reverted to iTunes backup/sync over WiFi, at least partly because my Mac is on Snow Leopard.) And of course, new toy syndrome.

I'll keep my eye on it. But as I said, 'My Data Manager' did what I wanted on Android. Thought there might be something people recommended on iOS.

Duffle Coat 07-08-2013 09:12 PM

Got an iPad from the job, trialling it over the holidays. Handy in some ways but infuriating in others. It acts like a computer but behaves like an Amstrad word processor at other times. Wifi only on mine rendering it useless in many locations. Awkward for photos etc. Can't get adobe flash on it. No USB port. No streaming xcpt on certain sites. I would not buy one, that's for sure.

Heb 7:4 10-08-2013 12:27 PM

I have no idea what you're talking about I'm afraid mate. There are no screen savers on an iPhone that I know of. You can set a picture for your lock screen, but it's static on the current operating system.

Blind_Eagle 10-08-2013 02:31 PM

AnimateLockscreen will let you do this but you'll need to jailbreak your phone.

My iPhone 5 (iOS6.1.4) often has problems switching from wifi to carrier.
After using a wifi I go out of range so the carrier should take over automatically.
The screen shows bars, carrier name and 3G or Lte but I have no internet connection.
Powering the phone down and switching on again is the only way I have been able to fix this.
Anyone else come across this problem before?

Yeah. I'm familiar with this issue. I had the same thing. And you're right, the only way to fix is to reboot. Even going into Airplane mode and back out doesn't fix it. I called my carrier to them not knowing what the issue was.

I figured it out in the end. I backed up ALL my shnitz I wanted to keep and did a factory reset. Now it works flawlessly. I was dealing with this issue for over a year until I tried that. Good to go now! :p

Anyone know if the skysports mobile app canbe used with AirPlay and an Apple TV ? Vodafone are offering g it, most entertainment or spotify free so I've got to choose one. Thx

vitesse 19-11-2014 11:44 PM

I don't know if I fully understand what you are asking but I think I do.

So here goes. Are you asking whether if you have the Sky Sports mobile app installed on your iPhone can you stream it via air play to Apple TV?

If that is the question then I just tried it on my iPad and I only get sound via Apple TV and the video stays on the iPad.

What's confused me is I don't understand why you want to do this? Is it because you don't have a subscription to Sky sports currently on your TV?

I have discovered something I didnt know though. As a Virgin Media customer I can login to the sky sports app using my Virgin Media username and password.

You should see what it's done to my ipad2, browsing is almost non existent. :sob: I'm with you and would love to go back.

Adlerhorst 20-11-2014 09:13 AM

You could when it first came out. Did on my old iPad 3 as iOS 8 was painful on that.

But you cannot now.

FWIW I took the plunge on 8.1 on my 5S and that's fine.

Blind_Eagle 20-11-2014 09:36 AM

8.1.1 was released today which is supposed to improve things on iPad 2 and the 4s

Hedgehog 21-11-2014 08:34 PM

I updated to 8.1.1 last night - was kind of scary, but seems OK. I had to go in today and reset a few things. It's just like starting out from scratch, except it keeps all your Apps and Music OK.

I'm not sure I like the Contact Favourites bubbles that are showing when you hit the home button twice. I'm going to se if I can get rid of them.

Takes so bloody long too (3+ hours) - I ended up going to bed and doing the final steps when I got up this morning.

Pretty easy to get rid of them... looked it up in the manual, which gave directions to remove the option.

PalaceMonkey 08-12-2014 10:10 AM

anyone have any recent battery issues?

I'm on 8.1.1 and have been for a week or two.
Had the phone on airplane mode last night, and it drained from 50% to 0 overnight.

Then charged it up to about 26% for my journey to work, and it drained to 0 in about an hour (not in airplane mode & listening to music)

Since the first drain happened in airplane mode, presumably it can't be related to location services/notifications/data etc

Which iPhone?
My 6 has been a revelation with regards to battery life compared to my 5.
Previously I couldn't go anywhere without a USB battery as back up. Now my iPhone6 lasts a day and a half/2 days between full charges. (and yes, I'm on 8.1.1)

Go to settings / general / usage / battery usage and it will tell you what is eating your battery.

I checked the sort code and its for a Halifax in Chatham!

Have spoken to Vodafone and they are going to sort it all out and I'll drop the phone off at the Croydon branch sometime this week (sorry)

I've been cloned it seems.

I checked and the eBay seller doesnt even sell iphones, still waiting for that delivery or its waiting for me at the sorting office in Penge.

Upgraded to iPhone 6 yesterday (64gb silver). Having to wait 10-25 days for it to arrive which I think is terrible. But I dont really have a choice but to wait, as the deal they've offered me was great!

It looks like my Home & Lock screen is taking up 18% of the battery usage over the last week.

Not sure if that is normal?

It looked like the rest was pretty evenly distributed among the Apps I've used in the last week.

What did you "fiddle around" with?

I assume that's because you've got notifications etc switched on for your lock screen and your phone is set to regularly check for updates. On that basis, assuming you haven't restricted app access, then that battery use doesn't seem unreasonable.

Anyone with an iPhone 6 who has enabled the Health app and has wondered why their battery life has collapsed might care to look at the log for steps.

its fekking nuts.It basically sends your steps, every time it thinks you've moved.

The Google consensus is you can't turn it off. Also they swear it does not adversely effect battery life.

Can anyone enlighten me on this please? I have the BT app (which unlike Sky you can connect to a tv) and when I connect my iphone (or iPad) to the tv using the Apple short cable which connects the device to the hdmi lead it buffers on the tv screen. When I disconnect it and view it on the device it doesn't buffer. Why, mirroring the image on the screen does it effect the display? I'm confused as I thought buffering was an internet speed issue.

Sorry I can't help you specifically, but are you trying to watch a TV show/Movie via a web site, or something that is in the cloud or downloaded to your device?

I ask because I sort of had the same issue watching via a TV station App, but I have a couple of shows loaded on my iPad (not in the cloud) that worked fine.

In other words, if they are via a App your Internet speed may still be an issue (like mine).

Basically I wanted to use the BT sport app which was showing the game yesterday live from my iPad to the tv so others could watch it too without huddling round an iPad. But after about 10 seconds of perfect streaming on the tv, it freezes and has the buffering symbol in the middle of the screen. Very confusing. At least the sky go app says it is not supported by hdmi when you try to show it on the tv.

Buffering can be a result of hardware and software issues as well as slow internet.
Clearly I would think your problem is with the cable connection.
You're connecting the converter (shown in the pic) to an HDMI cable right? You might want to try another cable or another connector (although I know those cables are not necessarily cheap).

andyocpfc 21-12-2014 04:01 PM

Ah okay, I didn't know that.

Yeah, I have the hdmi lead from the tv going into that and the the other end going into the device. Just weird how it's fine for 10 seconds or so and then drops out. Maybe I'll try another connector or lead then. Thanks

Hedgehog 21-12-2014 05:39 PM

So watching on the iPad it is fine, but when you plug it into the TV it buffers?

CT_Palace 21-12-2014 06:11 PM

My problem with doing exactly what you are (not streaming) is the picture quality. Otherd on here say it is fine, but mine is pretty poor... defo not HD.

:p

I shall try another connector (although they are ridiculously expensive from Apple). I have tried it in another room with a different HDMI lead and it's the same so assume the HDMI is okay, unless both on both tv's are crap.

When it does play, the quality is fine on mine after a couple of seconds, until it freezes after the 10 seconds.

Any hints on how to get an iPhone 4 unlocked. I purchased one from a friend for my daughter it's locked and we can not get past the set up screen to reach customer support etc.
Tried from my own phone but of course Apple support doesn't wwork if you're not using one of their products.

Joe85 25-12-2014 10:04 AM

Jailbreak it?

When you say it's locked, do you mean by password? Or to a Network? Have you attempted a hard reset? You have to log the power and home buttons for 15 seconds or something like that.

It's locked to a network looks like there are services on the web that I can use

I shall try another connector (although they are ridiculously expensive from Apple). I have tried it in another room with a different HDMI lead and it's the same so assume the HDMI is okay, unless both on both tv's are crap.

Just to let people know. I ordered a £5 cable on eBay and it sorted the problem of buffering so thanks all especially Hedgehog and CT_Palace :p:)

First iphone Thread Post.

I love my iphone but my 5s has started to become, what I can only describe as, glitchy over the past few months. 12 months 'til upgrade.

Will stick with Apple though. I have an iMac and the whole Apple experience is still the best. They have to be careful though. Software updates have been shit lately.

I'll look through previous posts but always looking for shortcuts on the iphone that people live to use every day. Everything, anything, to make life a bit quicker. I have just set up shortcuts for all my user names and passwords (now if i type Gb, Georgie Boy pops up. Simple stuff like that helps.

On a different note, i run a business and get calls 24/7 so i've now got a scheduled Do Not Disturb everyday which only lets my favourites call between 7pm-7am. I find this helps my mind to switch off a bit. I'll also be getting an Alarm Clock for the bedroom so my phone never enters. Smartphones are addictive and to ensure optimum sleep, i've been told and beleive they should be left out of the sleep zone.

Will keep adding stuff.

Loving Omnifocus on the iphone too. A great organisation and productivity app.

Apart from having music on the move and something to do when having a crap at work I had nothing to keep me occupied.

I certainly found myself more focused.

Anyone know of an app whereby you can download and save YouTube videos so you can play back without needing WIFI/3G?

I used to use MXtube but it doesn't work anymore due to some "unsolved disputes" which is a shame as it was excellent.

Help :
Just fired up my 4S after months in the drawer and it worked initially, but the update for newest iOS 8 has left it in recovery mode and offering me the choice of losing everything - or nothing.

Any tips? Please...

I get the impression that YouTube have stopped most of these working, as none of the ones I used to use work anymore.

I have had some success with TubeVideo recently, I think on a trial basis, but I only converted a few.

I had that too. They wanted stupid money to replace the battery so the company got a new one instead. If it was me paying I'd be really pissed off with Apple because the anecdotal stories were along the lines 'yeah, happens a lot, not much you can do..' etc.
