I was just told by someone that if iOS 8 is causing your iphone problems. Back up, restore phone to factory settings and then restore from your last backup, then the performance should improve. Does that make sense? Was also told to 'take everything off you don't need'. Not sure that would make much difference.

How old is it? If it is less than 5 years and its a battery issue you can legally take it back and say They need to replace it due to EU regulations. I luckily bought mine from Apple went into a store and said this and they just swapped it over for a swollen battery. As long as it doesnt look like its been thrown around you should be ok. But you are supposed to take/send it back to wherever you got it apple/o2/virgin etc |

It's not a difficult job to change the battery yourself - plenty of info on Ifixit.com

HELP!!!!!
I gave my son my old iPhone 4s and told him to wait until I got home to clean it up. He didn't switched on Icloud and proceeded to delete all the contacts on the phone. the cloud thought I didn't want them anymore and proceeded to delete them from my phone and the Mac. Unfortunately not knowing he had done this I backed up my phone to iTunes with all the contacts deleted. When I do a restore I get a tantalising glimpse of all my old contacts before it defaults to the mucked up version. has anyone used any software to grab this data back. I have seen posts from people who say some of the software out there is a rip-off and doesn't work and that the reviews are all spam. Can anyone recommend or point me in the right direction please? |
OK I managed to restore the old phone which had a back up of most of the contacts so I restored that. Stopped it updating and manually put in the contacts on the Mac. SO big panic over. However I now have another problem. I have switched off the cloud on the old phone so that will stop it effecting anything on either my phone or the Mac. BUT... The contact when put in the mac are appearing on the iPhone but any contacts that have been put on the phone are not appearing on the mac. Both have cloud switched on. Any ideas? Thx
|
The whole cloud thing has be baffled.

I had assimilated issue between MacBook and iPad. Perhaps check each address book to see whee they are saving new contacts to. Hope that makes sense. |
Is the camera on a 5s really crap? I can't get any sort of decent picture with it. They all come out too dark
Maybe the settings are all wrong but I don't know what settings I need. I just want a setting that will take a reasonable picture when I just shoot and go. |

What's app not working properly as it shows message on phone screen but it's not on the actual what's app message?. Tried to open emails earlier and that shuts down before it opens.
Any help hugely appreciated. |

Probably describes it a lot better here though... http://iphonephotographyschool.com/i...ra-and-photos/ |
Cheers Monty that has sorted out the issue
Shame every pic is initially under exposed as I'll need to adjust for every pic. |
Quote:
Do you have a case? Some cases shade the camera hole or reflect the flash. If you have a case, I would take it out and see if you have the same issue, if you do get a new case! |
|
Oh my! Tempted to purchase an iPhone just for the case. That's awesome on so many levels.

Anyone more iPhone or iOS savy than me able to help?
I am having storage issues on my phone. I have deleted over 1000 photos and 50 videos, have no music on there and yet somehow I am still hitting 12GB (which is full). But this morning, I had 10GB on there after going on a deleting spree. However, it is back up to 12GB already and I have not saved anything on there! And in terms of space, I have been inti "manage storage" and having added up, I don't know how it has got to 12GB: 1.3GB of photos 2123GB of everything else What else is taking up space? I understand I have 12GB because it is a 16GB device with 4GB of iOS. |
In the last 2 days, I have deleted 4GB of photos and apps I just worked out. But it has crept up to 12GB again. I do not get it
|
Check "Deleted" photo file and empty it.

Just since posting this thread (and not using my phone) available space has gone from 100MB to 12MB
Something is eating my phone! |
Things like Twitter and Facebook are memory hogs and use a cache. If you use them a lot and end up with full memory, close them and do a hard reset. You'll free up memory for a while.
If you don't use them, not sure! |
They are using 88 and 92MB respectively.
It makes no sense In memory useage, there is a total of 2300MB and 1.3GB. Why is that filling up 12GB? |
|
Used 12 GB. Available 0
Earlier today it was used 10gb. And it's crept back up to 12 without me saving anything And the screen above shows 1.3GB Photos and everything else adds up to 2300MB. No idea where rest of space is |
Klinks this happened to me. Is it in the "other" usage.
Hand to back up and totally reload my phone. |
|
Anyone else's keep cutting out about a min or so in to a call ? Mine has done it 10 times at least today
|
Thanks all. Will try these now
|
Just make sure you backup the device first!
|
I did!
|
Sorted! Gone from no free space to 8GB free!
|
What did you actually do then?
|
Quote:
However I would suggest you turn it off and on again, :D but im sure you have done that already. IN which case I would back up your phone on a computer and reboot it. Somewhwere along the lines its got confused. |

Is there a way to get rid of the iWatch App that Apple kindly downloaded to my phone?

I have Tips, news stand, ibooks, passbook, podcasts, iTunes store in mine. Others may find them useful but they are just a waste of space and storage as far as I'm concerned. |
Yep - I slid it into Extras along with a couple of others like you say.
So far today, my NBC Sports Extra wouldn't authenticate me, and my cycling App has changed to Kilometers for no apparent reason. Might be a coincidence, but I'm paranoid! I think I forgot to mention - I upgraded to iOS 8.2 yesterday. |
What am I missing. All around me people on the train and around the ground were accessing the internet on their smart phones inside and outside the ground and i couldnt sorry to be dumb what could I be missing. At selhurst park it seems not to be a problem.

I have an old iPhone that is no longer used. It can still function as a phone and iPod but that's about it no WiFi 3g or Bluetooth. Is there anyway of saving the photos on there to an Android device or if not to anything else?

Just had to sort an issue with my other half's phone where she had run out of space, mostly it seemed due to photos. Although there were clearly only 30 pics on her phone it was saying there was 4 gigs worth. after resetting etc nothing seemed to work i tried this neat little hack, which I thought I would post here a, becuause it might help people and b, I might need it again and this is an easy way to find it! :D
Why does my iOS device say I have more photos than I can find? https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-8281 |
Dropped my iphone 6 on Friday night and now it won't turn on. It already had a smashed screen from when I dropped it at the work Christmas party last December.
Have booked a appointment with a 'Genius' at the Apple Store tomorrow. What are the chances of them replacing it? |

I've got an old iphone 4s that I'm giving away to a mate but its on my cloud and I want to completely delete everything before I do this , any idea how?
|
settings - general - reset
|
I know it's all horses for courses, but is it worth spending the extra to get the 6 plus or is the 6 more than good enough? The 6 plus looks good (and my preference) but is big, but is it too big for general day to day use and for the standard pocket size?
|
Anyone else suffering from the iPhone shutdown text message?
Seemed to really hit my school today with lots of students sending it to each other. Can't believe the only solution is to turn messaging off. Terrible 'bug' to allow this. |
When the phone turns back on, double click the home button to bring up all the apps open a apps and close the messaging app. If it is closed then go into messages and the only way to correct it is to swipe on the person that sent it and delete the whole message conversation from them.
|
Quote:
In saying that, if I had the 6 plus I'd probably tell you to get the 6 plus because I'd think its great because it'd be the one I was used to. So just get whichever, and when you have it, you won't feel too bothered that you didn't get the other one. |

Full steps here. Different version 1. Ask Siri to "read unread messages." 2. Use Siri to reply to the malicious message. After you reply, you'll be able to open Messages again. 3. In Messages, swipe left to delete the entire thread. Or tap and hold the malicious message, tap More, and delete the message from the thread |

Not sure where to post this, so I'll try here.
I bought my wife an iPhone last week, and today I was pairing it with the phone in her car. (her old phone had been working just fine in her car). I got the phone paired OK, but in the phone book it now has every Contact listed that I and she have, not just hers. Yet on her phone in the contacts there are just her contacts. I've tried all sorts of combinations of iCloud, Contact on this Phone, and turning of groups etc. This really is a case of being too smart for it's own good. Any ideas oh wondrous BBS? |
When can I expect 5S contract to drop in price?
I like to keep down to 20 quid more or less which I can now get on an EE upgrade but only with a 5c. The 8GB on my 4 is now running out regularly so I don't want another 2 years on 8GB. |

God this iCloud stuff does my head in! |
can I sign in to my iTunes account (the account I use on my laptop) with the app on my iPhone? On the iPhone its currently got my iCloud account but on my laptop for iTunes it has my actual email address
I know from before it gives the option to sign in with a new apple ID on the iPhone but I haven't bothered to look yet... |
Quote:
Though you can have this for your iCloud account also (I do) there is nothing that forces you to have the same iCloud and iTunes account on your phone |
If you download the latest version of iOS apparently you automatically get a free three month trial of Apple music when you agree to the T's & C's.
Anyone know if this is one of those schemes that you need to actively cancel or you may be charged monthly for x months? Or do you need to actively opt in? Couldn't find anything out there and I'm 55 years of age, so don't have enough years left to fully read Apple's terms and conditions pertaining to this minor update. |
You can opt out of the auto renewal as soon as you upgrade.
Once you are in Apple Music, select the icon in the top left, tape view Apple ID, scroll down to subscriptions and click manage. Click on Apple music then you can turn off auto renewal from there I've been using it today and very impressed, easy to use and good integration |
Quote:
Apple, you nasty bastards. |
I got this when I opened the music app. Assuming if I don't try the trial period they can't start taking any money out anyway?

How to disable apple music auto renew subscription

Apple Music is great. The playlists are spot on (loving the grime ones)
Think I might stick with it past the trial. The way it fits into iTunes and the Music app is so convenient |
Good information.... now if I could just figure out how to turn off my Palace World automatic annual subscription!

Not an urgent issue but an annoying one here.
All my apps are up to up to date, yet that annoying little red notification on the corner of the App Store logo will not **** off. It's stuck on the number 6 and will not disappear. Anyone got any bright ideas? |

Otherwise do a hard reset. |
Maybe a silly question, but. I have just ordered a 6 plus it upgrade from my old 4 that is arriving later today. Is it just a case of swapping my SIM cards over to get all my current apps/music/settings/photos etc or how else do I get all my existing stuff from one phone to the other?
|

I'm not sure phones even have SIM cards now do they? |

Turn new phone on. It was ask you for your iCloud details and put all your apps, etc, on. You can also plug your phone into your computer and back up to that, then plug new phone in to computer and set up from that. It's just a case of whichever you prefer doing. |
Quote:
Others may know different - but I am just letting you know my preference. Cheers |
Thank you all. It's been 5 years since I bought my 4 so are new to all this as I've never gone from one iPhone to another as the 4 was my first Apple phone. Last time I tried to backup to iCloud it failed as I ran out of space so needed to buy more, which I didn't at that time. I am also going from a 32gb to 16gb. I use probably about a quarter (if that) of my music on my old phone. Is it possible to back up everything and transfer that but NOT the music as I'm sure most of my storage is used up with music that I don't listen to?

How long does back up to iCloud normally take - mine seems to be going for ages and the green bar doesn't seem to be moving anywhere? It's an iPhone 4 32gb.
|
Backed up iphone 6 less than two weeks ago and now want to restore that to a new machine but it says the software is too old? Can anyone enlighten? Why don't these things just work.
|
.
|
It's now taking hours and hours for a software opdate from itunes for the new phone. Is it being naive to back up the phone, get a new phone and expect It to work fairly painlessly.
|
Apple Music is a great concept but I'm having a few issues that I really hope they sort out!
I can't transfer old tracks I've downloaded onto my phone if iCloud library is turned on. And these old tracks don't show up when I search for them on my phone (as they probably should if iCloud library is on when connected to wifi)... I also can't 'add to my music' on my phone without making it available offline (downloading it). These songs will then appear in my iTunes library on mac- the only bit of syncing that seems to be working. If I add something to ' my music ' on the mac, it then won't appear on the phone. Quite frustrating as the idea is great! And if they sort this out I'd pay the £10 subscription. Anyone else having issues? |
Anyone know of a decent, reliable app that you can use to transfer contacts from one iphone to another without using iTunes or iCloud as in losing the will to live with those?
|
Just did a search on iPhone backup in the App Store and the first one that came up looked like a simple solution if you use email on the phone.
Not a recommendation - just a thought. Thankfully I'm not having problems with iCloud ATM. |
