Sound like the same as mine and it's an issue called touch disease. I had a colleague at work fix mine using a youtube video packing the connectors inside with electrical tape. Apple refuse to admit there is a problem and apparently there is a law suit against them for it.

A quick and simple procedue to get the screen working again is to place your thumb in the middle at the back and give it s quick flex. It makes the connections touch again. Do you get a grey bar at the top too when it freezes?

no

Has anyone had the black screen death whatever you wanna call it..dropped the bastard on the flooring Sunday morning and the screen came out of place slightly so pushed it back in..put the charger in and the battery sign came up then the screen turned white and it died. Charged it again for about six hours and it wouldn't turn on or reset with the power button and home button..still won't charge so it's ****ed basically. Tried to take it apart earlier but screw driver still not small enough! Anyone know where I could get it repaired in Croydon for cheap enough or I'll just have to pay out the rest of my contract that ends in March..no insurance this time round

Joe85 14-11-2016 06:44 PM

They are pretty simple to take apart with the right screwdriver. Its worth checking the screen connection hasn't come loose.

I thought I had the right screwdriver but it seems to be about 1mm too big! This is the video I was gonna attempt before I take it to a shop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hyf...gGgNLuWSatmg2w

You cam get a phone screwdriver kit of Amazon for like a fiver that comes with a sucker pad for pulling the screen and back panel up.

Updated my 5 to iOS 10.1.1 and now the light doesn't work and the back camera doesn't work. I can't find this problem with this update but it seems common with a iOS 9 update there seems to be no fix that works. Apple say it is a hardware fault but no one believes them as it as happens straight after update to numerous people.

Thanks.

So it looks like the iPhone 8 or whatever they are going to call it will have a variant of the MacBook touchbar on it.

Bit of a gimmick on the MacBook tbh. Can see how it makes more sense on a phone, but we'll see.

You'd think it would be even more pointless on a phone which is just one big touch screen anyway.

So far the touchbar is useful for scrolling through video and for controlling the volume, but I'm not looking forward to it eventually breaking and rendering the whole macbook useless.

Reset the Apple ID password first if you can't remember it:

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201487

Then you will need to erase the iPhone if it's locked and you don't know the pin:

iPhone users, need some help. I have a 16GB iPhone 6. I have very little on it, 40 apps which includes all the preloaded ones, and 440 photos, which go back to 2010. That really isn't much. Yet it's forever telling me I'm running out of space.

Any ideas how to free up some space, without deleting photos, videos, or apps?

Imajica 02-06-2017 04:38 PM

Hi,

Settings>General>storage and ICloud usage.

Does anyone know how to put a code on outgoing calls or blocking outgoing calls? I have an iPhone 6 Plus.

My little toddler loves playing around with my phone and watching YT videos etc and even at 2 and a half knows how to make calls although clearly can't read who she is calling. Is there a way I can give her the phone in the car to play without the risk if he calling various people? Obviously airplane mode would restrict calls but then would also block all mobile network apps inc YT so not really an option.

Anybody updated to the latest iOS 11.0.3 yet?

It looks like a major upgrade... last time they did this it all went to hell in a hand basket. I'm very reluctant to hit the "Install Now" button.

Also I see iTunes is not what it was. I can't find any thing to link Apps now, and it does not recognize my phone when I plug it in.

Apple really are losing it with all these changes.

Yep. My son has switched to Samsung and although it was a little frustrating at first he now wishes he had done it sooner. I''l be doing the same this time next year I think. Itunes is awful now, Iphoto is OK but constricting. Apple maps are crap compared with Google. They arent innovative and just play catch up and make like its a real big deal. Finally I hate not having a headphone socket so they should be shot for that alone.

Hedgehog 22-10-2017 07:19 PM

So looking at Google apparently the Apps store and anything to do with Apps is no longer on iTunes.

Not that I use iTunes for anything to do with Apps, I was having trouble with the Uber App and it would not delete from my phone so thought I would try via iTunes with the phone plugged in.

Apparently that is not an option anymore.

Hedgehog 22-10-2017 07:55 PM

OK - upgraded to 11.0.3.

First impression... why have they changed the fonts! :wallbash:

Did a Google search and apparently a lot of people want to go back to the original font, and no one seems to know how to do that.

I hate when they do stuff like that - it should be an option not mandatory.

Also the using multiply apps at once is doing my head in... swipe or press home?

11.0.3 IS A NIGHTMARE

Screen freezes all time, swipe function doesnt work half the time, volume buttons dont work, apps freeze, lose the date and time on screen etc... the list goes on

cpfc4evandeva 25-10-2017 12:25 PM

I haven't downloaded it yet, so I don't think I'll bother :D

I am also going to move away from Apple once this phone stops working. I have an iPhone 6 and it's great. Apple seem to make changes for the sake of change, and charge silly prices for it. A classic case of a company going too far in terms of arrogance.

Isle of Wight 25-10-2017 03:28 PM

Funny how things change. It used to be Microsoft that came in for stick as being the big bad wolf by Apple. Now Apple are even worse.

Have to say mines been fine since the update.

Not had an issue.

fang 25-10-2017 04:53 PM

No problems here. I'm not entirely sure what 11.0.3 brings to the party apart from the GIFs' on messages.

montstar 26-10-2017 07:46 PM

have an iphone 7 and not had an issue.. the gifs on messages were on the last update - theyve just made them a lot more prominent

one of the nicer touches is if you do a screengrab you can then write draw or circle things on it or crop it...

Hedgehog 26-10-2017 09:42 PM

I'm not having any problems per se, but all the "little" differences are really annoying. I just keep saying to myself, "Why?". Different fonts, different appearances, different maps layout, different calculator format. I'm hating the App closure swipe technique required now.

When all is said and done it's no different... Just looks different.

James 27-10-2017 08:30 AM

Anyone ordered the iPhoneX today?

According to reports, such as THIS one, there is a shortage of stock and 'Demand for the new phone is expected to be extremely high, so if you’ve managed to read this far through this post, it’s probably already too late, especially considering reports of supply issues due to difficulty in manufacturing sensors.'

However, Apple are still taking orders and there seem to be plenty left. I wonder if this was just a marketing ploy to encourage a buying frenzy. Perhaps, however the high price has put potential buyers off.

I have ordered one as it's paid for by my business, but I am not sure I would have been prepared to fork out £1k had I been funding this myself. The iPhoneX could be a bit of a dud.

Galo 28-10-2017 08:08 AM

I’ve just switched over from Android, i think both the notch in the screen and face to unlock features are both terrible decisions for the 10 from Apple and can’t see them so opted for the 8 plus instead. Loving the camera so far but portrait mode seems crap, the blacking out of the background never seems to work.

But that's not the same. You can do all roughy the same on a phone at half the price £1000 for what ? "It looks cool" ? "It recognises my face" ?
Sky is unique you can't get its content elsewhere you can get the phone features elsewhere.

Adlerhorst 29-10-2017 11:34 AM

Except that’s not true, is it.

This phone lives and dies on the facial recognition. This isn’t the same as iris scanning, it’s streets ahead. It potentially allows the phone to do different things that iris scanning does not. It’s potentially a game changer in terms of how we use phones, which is somewhat different to something like wireless charging.

We’ll know soon enough because other manufacturers will start putting it in their phones if they can get the tech right without breaching the IP (which Apple got when they acquired RealFace in 2014 - this has been coming for a while).

The key point though is not who is first to market with something, but who gets it to work. ApplePay was not the first means of paying for something with your phone, but it was the one that got traction in the West (in the east it was app focused - Alipay and Tencent’s wepay dominate in China) and Wireless charging Apple didn’t bother with for ages, a number of Android phone have had it for ages, but try to find a wireless charging point in public. My guess is that will change Now Apple have got on board.

ollie_porter 29-10-2017 02:23 PM

I have an issue with my iPhone.

Whenever I am walking along with headphones, music stops by itself, plays by itself and even goes 10x faster than it should. Voice control also comes on by itself. Sometimes it is a worse problem than other times.

I've tried different headphones, restoring the phone, deleting and re-installing the music app. I think it is a hardware problem rather than software but thought you lot may have a idea?!

It is today

Apart from The phone unlock and I believe some stuff with emojis it doesn't do anything that can justify such a huge layout.

Even if at some later date they come up with something £1000 is still huge money. Is it needed? Does it represent value. I would say no it's just vanity and keeping up with the joneses

I’m intrigued to know what the game changer is apart from not being able to unlock the phone without looking at it.

Neckinger Eagle 29-10-2017 10:26 PM

I feel particularly dense sometimes, especially when faced with a behemoth company trying to extract more money out of me.

What was it that Jeff Goldblum says in one of the Jurassic Park films? Just because we have the power to do something it doesn't me we should do it.

You see, for instance, I just cannot work out why anybody feels they need software to put monkey ears and cat whiskers on their face as they take yet another narcissistic photograph of themselves.

It's interesting that just as the new phones come out the operating system upgrades on the old phones and now the battery runs out in five minutes. Of course, the company is working a solution, which is perhaps something they should have done before releasing the update. Or maybe they just hope that people will think that phones should only last a matter of months before they need replacing.

Call me cynical if you want.

Can almost guarantee there’s dust and crap in ur headphone socket or power jack depending on which iPhone you have get a pin or whatever you feel comfortable with and clean it out and it will improve - if you’re close to an Apple shop they will do for you

HTH

I would have had the exact same though if there was also issues with charging too.

I'll give it a go and report back :)

Thanks!

Sky is unique you can't get its content elsewhere you can get the phone features elsewhere.

Roughly the same isn't good enough. Not when for 50p a day I can have a phone that does everything with ease and no hassle at all.

I don't have sky and having a phone that entertains and works for me in every way, every hour of my waking day is far far better value for money.

50p a day or £1 a day ;)

Whatever it still represents £1000 no matter how you pay for it. I still haven't heard what it does over any other phone apart from currently recognising your face and switching on. What revolution will this spawn? All the other features seem to have already been done by someone else. You can get them to use every hour of the day doing the same thing so I still don't get it. What can you do on an iphone x that you cant on another phone at far less cost or is it a status thing?

redandblue 02-11-2017 06:47 AM

I a, an ex iPhone user I had a 6s plus went to upgrade (I buy my phone cash and sim only) and to replace like for like was something around £600 bought a moto g4plus does everything my iPhone does and more for £200. iPhone has better camera and keyboard my phone has better battery life, is dual sim and has expandable memory. iPhone is a costly folly for fools and I am glad I escaped

Funny that people moan about other people spending a few quid on an iPhone but are perfectly happy driving around in a BMW or Audi. I mean a Dacia or Lada Riva would do the job just as well...

And that's just for the handset; the service on top of that makes it considerably more that £1/day.

Does anyone run a family calendar? How do you do it? (I know apple has family share or something but don't want all the other crap of sharing apps/photos that will no doubt clog up the measly 5GB you get for free on icloud).

Not that I use iTunes for anything to do with Apps, I was having trouble with the Uber App and it would not delete from my phone so thought I would try via iTunes with the phone plugged in.

Apparently that is not an option anymore.

Apple released a version of iTunes that put this back in. It's what I use

When you start family sharing you get a checkbox list of the things you want to share - calendar or app as etc

The iPhoneX could be a bit of a dud.

all the evidence is pointing to this phone as being as popular as any other handset they've released, the plebs were out in force camping overnight at the various stores throughout the world and the £1000 does not seem to be putting the fans off at all but since when have Apple products been cheap? those predicting this could be the death of Apple might want to revise that prediction, does any other smartphone manufacturer get so much hype for a release? never in a million years.

So today I've managed to drop my iPhone 6s in the bath.

Seems to work fine surprisingly other than it constantly thinking headphones are plugged in so speakers not working when I play music or videos.

Headphones work fine when plugged in and speakers work fine for ringtones and alarms.

Any ideas of how to fix it? I tried a cotton wool bud but no luck.

Joe85 05-11-2017 09:30 PM

Turn it off and stick it in a bag of rice.

Heb 7:4 05-11-2017 09:47 PM

Bag of rice, at least 36 hours, let it absorb all the water

Is anyone getting an iPhone X? If so, anyone got a recommendation for cases?

My iPhone X arrived today.

I love the Face ID, which works perfectly. My only slight quibble is that the screen width is less than on my iPhone 7plus (screen height is larger) - so watching Sky Go involves watching a smaller, scaled, picture.

I've not really had much chance to investigate much further yet.

As for cases - I wouldn't ever look further than a Tech 21 'impactology' case. THIS is the one I bought, as the credit card holder is useful. However, the cheaper bog standard Tech 21 cases are good enough to protect the phone from multiple drops.

How much did that downgrade cost you? :)

I purchased the official Apple leather one for £49, incredibly pricey but it's a great fit and looks very good.

Says the man that paid £1000 for the phone!

Has to be worth £49 (5%) to protect your investment.

After a couple of years use my official Apple leather case has worn on the corners to expose the official Apple plastic. It’s still a great fit but it looks a bit crap for fifty quid.

Just had a look at the x and it looks like a bit of a joke
If you are going to do an infinity screen then do it, instead of leaving a stupid part in the middle at the top. Samsung are making the screens arent they? think they are taking the piss out of Apple. Surely Apple are paying them for copying all the bits that Samsung had on phones for the last couple of years especially with Apple claiming these features are this new thing? Think the 8 looks a lot better. Im not someone that hates iPhones and would be honest but it just looks like a kids toy phone with old features.

This.

It is a truly stupid idea.

fang 12-11-2017 08:21 AM

This is a bit off topic but does relate to an iPhone.

Has anyone incurred charges on their monthly bill for calls they never made? My monthly bill on my personal phone (not used for work) rarely exceeds £20. This month it is £250 and is directly attributable to a single, continuous, 2 hour call Vodafone claim was made to a college in the USA. I didn't make this call, in fact I've never used this phone to call the US. The phone was in my possession throughout the day and the number dialled is not in my contacts.

I'm going through the disputes process and want to take my complaint to the Ombudsman. Vodafone have made two unsolicited offers of a 20% and then 50% reduction in the bill. They say they can't offer an explanation because their system says the call was made and that the Ombudsman will base any judgement on this evidence. This is the third security related issue I have had with Vodafone. Has anyone else had similar problems?

that sounds outrageous, is the number visible from dialled section from your phone? and how can a two hour call to the USA cost £250? thats over £4/minute surely calls to the USA even from Vodaphone cant cost that much?

Not visible in the dialled section. The first I knew about the call was a text alert from them in the evening saying I had incurred above average costs. What I need is some evidence that this isn't the unique/impossible occurrence they claim.

Blind_Eagle 12-11-2017 03:38 PM

I’ve just read a review which both praises the standout “edge to edge screen” and criticises the “the notch” for blocking part of the screen.

I guess the reviewer was given one.
