After watching some YouTube stuff on iOS 13, it looks like a bunch on stuff I personally would have no interest in or need for.
|
The only reason I can think of why they are releasing it now and an updating almost immediately is so people can backup their old phones on 13 before
migrating over to the new phones (which will come with 13). I’m not going near it until 13.1 is out |
New ipadOS out on September 30th includes support for external USB/SD card storage. As does ios 13 for the iPhone. A big step forward for these devices.
|
Quote:
Presumably ios13 is best on brand new or newish phones that have bigger memory anyway, and external memory goes against the idea of using the cloud. I wonder what the thinking is behind it ? |

Personally it will make it much easier to take movies etc with me when travelling and remove the need for a separate tablet. |

My wife lost all her iPhone contacts in her car phone. I've spent 2 days messing with it, taking it to the dealer, searching the internet etc..
Finally found some anecdotal stories about emojis causing phone books in the car to crash. Sure enough my wife added an emoji to a new contact entry last week. When she used her car for the first time 2 days ago, the phone book automatically updated and crashed the system apparently. Removed the emoji and all the contacts miraculously were restored to the car phone book. One of those butterfly flaps it's wings cases I think... |

Yes, but only as I have the new phone; have to add the wide lense camera is fantastic. |

I have found a thing on the phone where it shows me a list of attachments that I can delete to free up some space. One of these is a pic from 2015 but I have no idea what message it was part of. I have tried google but have no clue how I can find what this picture is attached to. I have a date and thats it. Any iphone jedi master out there got any idea?

Suddenly cannot connect to home devices like the Sonos or the thermostat Safari address bar is overlaid by content on some sites so you can’t actually search and need to open a new tab Safari links need pressing twice before they register Airport Utility crashes on launch Apple ID screen cannot be exited if you view it whilst on the Apple Arcade tab in the App Store app Just lots of shit bugs that are apparent to anyone within two minutes of use; don’t forget Apple had more than two million beta testers ffs |
Double tapping in Safari to zoom now only works intermittently and without any rhyme or reason.
It’s a dreadful release. |
Why do they do this? Once a fantastic company with innovative products now just a me too and even they don’t work :(

13.1 hasn’t fixed any of the bugs I’ve found. It’s Samsung bad.
Also have serious bugs in Watch OS6. Activity rings show closed when you get your first calorie after midnight. Just utter shit and I fail to believe not a single one of the millions of beta testers reported it. |

Example of typical Android woe: Google releases security update on 01/06/19 and at the same time disclose the vulnerabilities patched. Samsung finally updates my A5 with said patch on 06/09/19. That’s more than three months with a phone vulnerable to exploits with a helpful how-to guide posted by Google. That said, on Chrome I can still double tap on a thread name on the BBS and it zoom in. So I’m using my A5 more for browsing now. I’d never ever thought I’d ever reach for an Android over an iPhone for any task - sort of sums up how badly Apple is messing up under Tim Cook. |

If anyone is having problems connecting to their Sonos speaker via Spotify Connect, I've reported the bug to Apple, Sonos and Spotify. All of them deny an issue.
Temporary workaround is to close the Spotify app, turn Airplane mode on and off, and then try again. You should be able to connect to the speaker but it's not guaranteed, and neither is the duration of the connection. Can see why Apple are not bothered as it would potentially drive you to Apple Music, but staggered by Spotify's refusal to acknowledge the problem despite hundreds of posts on their forum and on social media support pages. Sonos app works, but alas no podcasts. Edit - Spotify fixed it after three and a half weeks; was a fault on the backend. |
There's definitely a drop in quality control when it comes to software. I still have issues with Safari's browser crashing intermittently, for example.
|
Also, if you use Gmail and pull down email manually, for God's sake do not just leave your mail app open. Make sure it has finished checking for mail otherwise it can loop permanently and run down your battery. In fact, probably best to check email and then force close the app for the time being.
Managed to drain an XR battery in two hours because of this. :( |
Anyone else noticing a dropping out of signal since the update? I’ve had to restart my XR a couple of times now as it can’t find o2 signal in areas which I know are strong. Restart does the trick but it should be unnecessary.

13.1.2 released now.

Both iPads annoyingly auto updated last night when I forgot to unplug them. Both seemed solid enough so I updated my phone.
Oh dear mother of god, my phone is now incapable of receiving calls, safari just doesn’t work, and several apps I use all the time just freeze on opening. All my Garmin devices are unable to connect to the phone and my cars hands free drops every call after about ten seconds and reboots both the phone and the car’s Bluetooth. |

Joking aside, CarPlay is much better (when you can get it to work) and I like the night and day thing |
Iphone iOs 13.1.3 issue. Can't seem to download Mail attachments. I click on it, or 'tap to download' like I did before but nothing happens, and the attachment won't open.
Any ideas? |

Just did some messing around with my music on my iPhone using iTunes (I know, I know), and all the album artwork is all ****ed up. Wrong artwork attached to the song. Looks good in iTunes, but not on the phone.
After Googling it, seems like I'm not alone. Very frustrating as there does not seem an easy fix. |
Finally took the plunge and downloaded/upgraded to iOS 13.3. It went a lot smoother than I expected, and not really seeing too many changes that effect my usage.
Biggest complaint so far is what they have done to the Photos Library App. Not liking the montage layout, and the choice of viewing either by Years, Months, Days or All Photos. When looking in the month mode it seems harder to find all the photos taken in that month. I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong, but if so it is not very intuitive. There seems no logic to the sort order either. Seems OK in All Photos mode. In Month Mode it led to a somewhat embarrassing moment when I was searching to show someone some photos yesterday (no... nothing like that!). Also, although I don't use it much, they seem to have over complicated Reminders. Used to open straight to the list, now it opens to an over busy screen, that you have to navigate through to get tho the list. Minor gripe, but WHY... and why not offer the option to use the classic view. |
I’m being given an android phone in a couple of weeks to see how I get on. So fed up with Apple and the changes they keep making. Keeping fingers crisssed I can adjust

Hahahah bloody iphones
|
Last weekend I set the alarm in my phone to ensure I got up in time to watch Palace v Deby.
This last Friday night I get a message pop up suggesting I might need to set my alarm again for the same time. Talk about trying to run your life! I can think for myself (just about)... and **** you iPhone I actually had to set it for 2 hours earlier for the Arsenal game... so you weren't that smart were you! Maybe it will be that smart someday soon. |
Also my wife plugs her phone in to recharge overnight in the bathroom. During the night she got up to have a pee and saw a message pop up saying "Scheduled to finish charging by 8:00am". In the morning she asked me what that was all about.
Apparently: With iOS 13 and later, Optimized Battery Charging is designed to reduce the wear on your battery and improve its lifespan by reducing the time your iPhone spends fully charged. When the feature is enabled, your iPhone will delay charging past 80% in certain situations. Your iPhone uses on-device machine learning to learn your daily charging routine so that Optimized Battery Charging activates only when your iPhone predicts it will be connected to a charger for an extended period of time. The algorithm aims to ensure that your iPhone is still fully charged when unplugged. What the hell! |
Can't wait to go back to iphone in April. Had a Galaxy S9 for 18 months, cannot stand the thing.

Ok can someone help me out with this. I got hit with a spam google calendar invite and stupidly declined. A flurry of invites followed. I found out how to stop it happening on my web version of calendar, I also got it clear on my phone BUT it still pings every bloody hour that I gave a new one. Any ideas?

Yep, stared getting this as we go out most Thursday evenings to roughly the same place (one of 3 restaurants almost next to each other). Also tells me it should take 5 minutes to get there, which is true. |
I've got iPhone and i love it. Took me a few days to get used to the keyboard but after then its easy and my next phone will be iphone too
|
Why has charging my iPhone or iPad using my MacBook become such a pain?
Plug the phone in and I have to unlock the phone before it starts charging then often but oddly not always, I have to "trust the computer" too. Just charge the ******* thing FFS! |
Just traded up to an XR from an old SE and I can’t believe the difference. Really pleased with it and astonished how quickly I got used to it. Naturally there’s the odd quirk, like not being able to delete mails with a swipe undies in All Mail but that’s hardly a concern. Have not even tried the wireless charging yet.
|
I am due an upgrade in April and was wondering what to get from the following;
iPhone 8 - This is merely from a price point of view and the fact it has middle button iPhone XR - Probably the newest cheapest alternative iPhone 11 - This one slightly pricier and it would be the basic model iPhone XS and X I do not know enough about to comment, but what would people choose from this list of options? |

I typed in iCloud.com into Safari and it came up, but wanted me to log-in with my Apple username and password, which I did. It then sent me a text message to the same phone I'm using with an access code. I enter the access code and it lets me in. I then get an email telling me someone is using my Apple username/password. In the meantime, what I'm looking for in iCloud wasn't there anyway! :wallbash: |

They ****ed up Itunes. It should have been a simple software to listen to music. I used it for many years but they constantly changed it to the point where it became unusable. Mixing in you library with things for sell makes it very confusing and off putting.
Amazon have a similar issue, rather than separate the films that can be watch online on Amazon Prime, if you search a title it will come up with the many ways of purchasing it rather than just to check it is on there for VOD viewing. This doenst make the platform useful if you just want to watch something, and I feel like they are just trying to get me to buy something as some kind of trick. They need to separate their stock for sale and stock for VOD as it is confusing and off putting. Netflix is far simpler as if you find something you are not suddenly denied watching it. Amazon is a Dopamine blocker! |
Just realized my wife was not getting family reminders on her iPhone.
Went on iCloud and saw she was "x" out. After a lot of Googling, it appears it needed upgrading and re-inviting. Walked through the process, and all is good again, but **** me... a little communication would have been helpful. Not sure when this stopped sharing, but could have been important. Incidentally Calendar seemed to work just fine as is. I appreciate there are bigger problems in the world at the moment, but still bloody annoying. |
OK, something to take your minds off Covid-19...
In my Reminders App I have two iCloud list - My Reminders and Family Reminders. Family reminders is shared with my wife. When I go to Reminders settings and then Default List, only My Reminders is shown as an option. On both my wife's phone and my iPad, both My Reminders and Family List are listed as an option for your default. I've Googled every combination of question I can think of without an answer. I've re-booted the phone, and uploaded all the latest software. Still no luck. I even created a new "test" list and put a test reminder in there, and sure enough this showed up as an option in settings as a default. Beginning to think it might have something to do with being the owner of the Family List, so no need to have an option to make it the default. Anyone? (Appreciate this is minutia, but hey... need to occupy your minds while in stay at home mode) |
Now I've discovered any Reminders on my or my wife's phone are not syncing with my iPad.
Yesterday to get the two phones Reminders to sync I upgraded both to iOS 13.3.1. Apparently my older iPad (which works perfectly fine for my needs) cannot be updated beyond iOS 12.4.5, and apparently they are now incompatible. Looks like Reminders update has been a real cluster **** reading on-line stories. :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: To be honest I don't use Reminders much, especially for family stuff (use the Calendar for appointments etc..), but due to being stuck indoors got to start messing, and just got deeper and deeper into it. |
I've noticed the sub folders in my mail are sometimes there, and sometimes are not. They seem to come and go randomly.
What's that all about? My email is a Yahoo based account, which I'm sure is to blame. |
It would appear I'm the only one having iPhone issues lately!
Another (if not the same) email issue where an email that is say 2 months old is showing up in my Outlook Inbox as I want it to (it contains information I need to look at periodically), but it is not showing up in the Inbox on my phone. All new emails come and go as normal, but seem to disappear after "x" amount of time. Extensive Googling would appear to confirm I'm not alone with this issue, but as of yet no one has found a satisfactory solution. All the fixes "experts" suggest have not worked, for me or others. I'm not looking for advice... just a place to bitch! |
Any know the best way On an iphone to record snippets from various podcasts, sound only?

Because it’s so meh I’m trying to fathom where the magic is ? Faster and 5G? My iPhone 8 works fine as long as I don’t load a new heavy Version of IOS. I can get a Pixel 5G for half the price. New emoticons ?????? I never used the old ones. It’s boring and still has a stupid notch

Anyone got a 12 yet?
|
No. But I am thinking about it quite hard. I’ve got a 10 and it is three years old now and the battery is beginning need charging more than it used to.
Cannot see that the pro is worth the £150 extra coin, assuming I need 128 gig. And I generally use 80-110 gig, so cannot get away with 64. |
Replace the battery ? I’m on an 8 and haven’t upgraded the OS as I don’t want all the emoji shite and have the phone slow down so Apple force me to upgrade :)
|
I'm still using my 6 !!
Replaced the battery once and may need to again soon. The iOS is 12 - I guess 14 won't run on my antiquated device |

I did just have a nice result on my iPad. I never normally buy AppleCare but did for my iPad pro. Runs out in a few days, has a couple minor dents, and a barely noticeable scratch, so wandered in to Apple on Friday and asked them to fix it, they said not worth a fix as everything is stuck together and, so they gave me ga brand new 2018 iPad Pro for £39 which should last another few years. |

They just emailed me to say have one free year of Apple TV+ as well because I have a new product.
Mentalists. It’s basically the same iPad as far as I am concerned. But as we start to keep things going for longer then I shall start to do this more often. I keep phones for three years and iPads now for three to four years so it’s basically like getting a uber mid life service half way through. Also all their stuff is stuck together in a way makes it hard to easily repair these days. So they are usually likely to replace. |
They are now emailing me about free Apple Arcade, whatever that is.

Still on 13.1 on my 8 and see no reason to change but my new 11 came today so I’m sure I be forced to upgrade just for some emoji shite that takes up more space
