Its a week later and I just realised that my shiny new iphone is still sitting on my desk unopened. A few years ago I would have ripped it open with all the delight of a child at Christmas. Now its Meh, doesn't do anything really different. I wonder if that buzz will ever come back or is it all bigger processor, better camera, brighter sceeen that no one REALLY notices.

Processing a maliciously crafted audio file may lead to arbitrary code execution Description: An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved input validation. CVE-2020-27910: JunDong Xie and XingWei Lin of Ant Security Light-Year Lab No mention of battery life being impacted from what I can see... then again I'm sure they wouldn't admit to that. |
Updated to iOS 15 at the weekend.
Nothing obvious changed visually, but having to answer (or make choices) when opening many of the apps. All appear related to being invisible or visible to contacts... I think that is pretty dumbing down the request, but basically what it means I guess. To be honest I'm not sure what the correct answer is in my case... I just want to get the app open so have been selecting OK, but not sure what I'm agree to. My wife's iPad after updating had a few visual changes, which is a red flag to a bull for her. That and all these questions, has caused quite a bit of friction between us today... we are both frustrated with the changes and the questions we don't know the right answer to. Very annoying. |
Looking at upgrading my second generation iPhone SE.
Not sure whether to bother getting a 13 or just stick to a 12 mini, after all it would be an upgrade on what I have. Then again it’s not that much more for a 13, especially when you consider the storage size is double as a minimum. I guess the right side of me is thinking to just buy the 12 as it’s a few £ a month cheaper, but will I be throwing money away? Is the 13 much better? |

My mrs has the 12, I got a 13 a month ago. Other than the camera there's very little difference. Does the 12 come with the same amount of memory? If so, frankly, I'd probably go with the 12.

I think that it depends how long you intend to keep the phone as the newer model will have a better processor and possibly more RAM so should last you longer. If you tend to upgrade every couple of years then go for the 12, if you hang onto them for several years then I would go for the newer model. last year I went from the 6s plus which I used for six years to the iPhone 12.

I normally change after two years and sell my old phone, as I keep them in a good condition so there is some decent resell value.
Part of me thinks **** it and buy the best one, as I never get the latest phone when they come out, but then I am tight as arseholes! |
They always slooooooowww down as the OS gets more and more bloated. I would go with whichever has the fastest specs esp if it’s only a couple of quid extra will be worth it in the long run if you keep it or more £ if you sell it
|
Think I’ve narrowed it down to the standard iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini.

Depends how urgent you need a new phone, but the Iphone SE 3 looks like it will be released around March/April next year.
Its what im holding out for at the moment at least (as long as it keeps touch id) :) |

I tend to buy the handset up front and go for a 30 day contract instead, but with this deal the cost of the phone and contract is less than buying the handset outright (and go course this includes two years worth of monthly charges). Cost of buying 256 gb mini handset outright = £779. Cost of 24 month contract including handset = £29.99 x 24 = £719.76. Looks too good to be true, can anyone see if there is a catch that I am missing? Delivery date is 20th January though. https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/iph...s71976-3860471 |

Always worth checking apple refurbished, get an unlocked phone and just get a sim only deal - works out quite abit cheaper

Just get a One Plus

Back on topic (sorry Joe, it’s a personal thing:)) I used to buy outright on every major model upgrades outright on release from the first model up to the 7. Like others I think there have been no further amazing improvements that made any real difference to the user experience since then and I haven’t bothered to upgrade. It’s a 128Gb 7, running 15.1 and it seems as fast as the day I bought it. |

But otherwise it is mostly this is a bit better and that’s a bit better, which is why people are upgrading far less frequently. |

No idea why people buy iPhones for £1200+. I had my phone shipped in from Hong Kong at a cost of £649 and it's better |

Picked up a 13 pro in the end. Liking it so far, certainly prefer the larger size over the old SE that I had. Glad I made the jump.

Anyone got a home projector that links to iPhone (or iPad / Mac)
To watch Apple TV / Netflix etc… Thanks |

It’s just seems completely unreliable in recognising me. My eldest, whose another Face ID fanboy, just wouldn’t accept I was telling the truth so I showed him. He just laughed when he realised I was right. I added him and it recognised him every bloody time. |

Random question - currently my job provide my phone and the number I've had my working life. I am leaving at the end of April and my new company will do the same. However for a period I would rather get a SIM and just see how the land lies and have control of my phone number - what is the best way to get a 2/3 year old iphone in decent nick that can tie me over for 6 months or so.
If anyone on here is about to trade in - I'd happily pay the price you are being offered by a provider / matsuma etc.. or is there a decent website for this? |

I have recently converted to Iphone to sync in with the rest of the family, my headphones don't seem to connect greatly during calls on my Iphone so can anyone recommend in ear headphones that work perfectly with Iphone's?
Or is it best to bite the bullet and just buy Airpods? |

General iApple question - we’ve started getting an annoying error on Mail. Synch with Yahoo mail fails intermittently saying connection to server failed. Anyone else had this and fixed it?
|
Quote:
I have Yahoo also, and the phone seems to not be syncing. I just noticed as I type this there was a little "details" link in the error message. A pop-up says, "No password provided for "Yahoo"". Let me check it out and report back... |
I assume this is related to the software upgrade I did 2 days ago.
After adding the yahoo password I'm getting emails on my phone again. Although seem a bit clunky. Not sure if this is related to your problem BBE? |

I think Yahoo is on the outs and they seem to be having quite a few server problems. I seem to have a lot of unexplained minor issues with them. |
Do any of you use solely an iPhone without other Apple products and if so are there any issues?
Only once had a iPod many moons ago and do not want to jump ship to Apple. I already have enough toys Microsoft and Android based. However I was playing around with a mate's 13 the other day and I'm tempted to the dark side for the first time. I'm in the market for a new phone and the S22 was in my sights but I'm trying to be open minded. |
Does anyone know what to do when messages dont show a contact name but a phone number?
Tried all the suggested troubleshooting that's online but still have the same issue. |
Do you backup to iCloud?

The one tip I saw that seemed the easiest and had good feedback as working was to delete the phone number on just one of your contacts, and then edit it back in. Seems like it resets the process. I've no idea if it works, but like I say, seemed to work for some people with the same issue. |

They operate totally independent of the Apple ecosystem. Everything the Phone needs is done on the phone. HTH. |
Am I missing something, or did the iPhone not used to have an option to send an incoming phone call to voicemail?
I see you can set a toggle to send all incoming calls from numbers that are not in your contacts to voicemail, but that seems a bit drastic. I would agree it is better than nothing, but seems a bit limiting and forces you to pretty much make a contact for everyone you give your number to if you want to get a call from them. Or just let them leave you a message and then add them as a contact if it is worth it to you. |
Go to Settings > Do Not Disturb > Allow Calls From
Select Everyone, No One, or Favorites; alternatively, select a group. Select everyone, then your phone won’t ring when a call comes in and when you don’t answer the call will go to voicemail. |
Quote:
It was just that I seem to recall there was an option to do this when you got the call (sent to message). Now the only options you have is Accept or Reject. Progress I guess... |
Can I just say that so far I am loving the "Send numbers not in your contacts straight to voicemail" feature I mentioned above, and switched on at that time.
So far I've had about 6 or 7 calls that didn't even ring on the phone and only one so far has left an automated voicemail. Now just got to figure out how to stop my Fitbit from vibrating when I get these spam calls. I got one at 6:45 this morning which triggered my Fitbit to vibrate, but the phone didn't ring. |
Anyone else got or had this problem?
When I am called on the Cellular service I answer and can hear them But they can’t hear me. If I call back it works fine. If I am called via face time or what’s app etc it works fine. I was told to switch off my blutooth, which fixed the problem but now I’m buggered for my hands free, tile, tracker etc etc any ideas google hasn’t helped |
When my dad makes or receives calls all he can hear and the other person is a horrible muffled sound making the call pointless. It’s not the sound on the phone as text tone / what’s app calls work etc. new SIM card didn’t fix the problem.
Is this likely to be an issue with the provider? |

Could it be an antenna issue with the phone? I remember when the iPhone 4 first came out, there were issues with the antenna, which was embedded in the stainless steel bezel. Essentially, when you touched it in certain places, the mobile signal dropped out. |

I updated phone to iOS 16 yesterday... Why do they have to **** with everything.
A minor annoyance is the font on the lock screen clock has been made bigger. I understand you can customize the screen and use different fonts for the clock, but the size remains the same. Reading articles on the web, I'm not alone in not liking this, and it also confirms there if no option to return it to what it was other than going back to iOS 15, which seem stupid. I keep finding other little annoyances also. All chicken shit stuff, so why? |
Quote:
( actually i am now wondering whether to update ) |

And just when you get used to them……
|
Quote:
The size of the Lock Screen clock is I agree utterly hateful. Changing it to a thinner font certainly helps although that doesn’t help with iPads where it’s even more obtrusive but you can’t edit it. Who the **** signed that off in Apple? |
Quote:
I just tried out the deleting of a sent message and it came back and said it only works if the person you sent the message to has updated their software (I assume to 16). I think it said something like the person may still be able to see the message on their device if they hadn't. |
A week in, and I continue to come across chicken shit changes.
And all with no option to revert to how it was. Latest discovery is watching a video you used to be able to jump forward of back 15 seconds with the controls along the bottom of the screen. Now it is +/- 10 seconds and the controls are slap bang in the middle of the screen. |
That certainly does sound like gosh darn cockamammy chicken shit change, old top.
|
Went to do a FaceTime today, and the format and layout has all changed.
Not sure if this is down to iOS 16 update or not, but I didn’t like it. More change for change sake. |
