I swapped from T-mobile also, if you didn't realise already, you need to give them 30 days notice of termination unless you are porting your number in which case the switch off coincides with the port. You have to be on the last day of your contract to get the PAC otherwise you will have to pay them for it.

eh? Just port the number before the t-mobile contract expires.

Then you'll have to pay, you will also have a temporary O2 number for four or so days, i just diverted all calls to the iphone temp number to get round this.

Key points for me though were

- t-mob require 30 days notice to end the contract
- if you are in your last month of contract even though you've already paid your line rental in advance, they will charge you for a PAC

Can i have a review of the battery life please, it's one of my main worries.

Charged mine Tuesday night to full, its got about 10% left right now which reminds me, I should put it onto charge. Surfed a bit, used it for about 50 mins of calls altogether, compared to my old WM6 phone (Tytn / Vario 2) I'd say the battery life at the moment is better on the iPhone.

What does this mean - and how do I do it? I though I had to wait until the old contract expires before shifting my old number.

Battery life is a pain in the arse at first, this is my first iPhone and the novelty factor although wearing off now means that im playing games, checking email, chacking facebook etc etc, I literally have to charge mine every night.

So i'd have to get a lot of chargers in other words ?

Providing you are in your last month you can phone customer services and get your PAC, they will charge you a declining amount depending on how long of your contract you have left. Once you give O2 the code it takes about 5 days to port the number so you will have a temp O2 number until it goes through. You can wait until the end of your contract also and avoid the charge although obviously you will have to pay the proportion of the line rental you use in the next month whilst waiting for it to happen.

I ported with about 2 weeks to go and it was 12.50

Agree its a once a day charge generally which is pretty usual these days for a smart phone.

As for chargers, I got myself a in car USB charger and just carry the USB lead around with me, providing you are near something with a USB connection you can charge. I use the main charger at home, the work computer when I'm in the office and the USB cigarette lighter adapter when I'm in the car. Pretty easy really.

I would have said no at first but now I love this puppy more than my 2G version. (Just so long as I remember to charge the poxy thing at every available opportunity)

The roaming problems I experienced when on the cusp of a 2G and 3G signal appears to have been sorted by the last s/w upgrade and it seems pretty stable now especially with regard to Safari which kept dropping out initially.

The GPS has actually got me out of trouble twice in the last two days so it got a big tick for that.

I have an issue.

I have bluetooth preparation in my car (a 2007 BMW 5 series) - and apparently the 3g version will not work properly with it. There is a cradle for the 2g version - but the 3g will not fit it since it has a curved back. No new cradle is likely this year.

Should I go for the 'older' model? How much better is the 3g version?

Car use is essential for me, so unless I am prepared to switch my sim card in to my old phone when I travel, it looks like the 3g version may not be any use (at least until Apple/BMW sort out the problem).

The cost of the phone is subsidised by the tariff. The otal cost of a mobile phone is normally calculated by using the method of cost of phone + tariff, in my experience at least.

Dave, the cost of the phone is normally the unsubsidised price. The PAYG version of the phone is available for 399 which would indicate a price half of your (rather clumsy) estimate.

You can't calculate an absolute using a variable. For example using your logic the phone is worth £1350 if you are on the £75 personal tariff and that is the same value on either the 8GB or 16GB. The 8GB version is worth £639 if you take it on the £30 tariff.

Your logic is similar to trying to work out the price of a car by factoring in the cost of the petrol.
