Andy,iPhone/tvcatchup is a must even if it's not technically an app. 20 odd tv stations over wifi and 3g for free.

If you have sky+ then the app of the same name allows you remotely set your sky+ box.

Tv guide is an excellent free tv listings service which has the above two services integrated into it

andyocpfc 08-09-2010 04:00 PM

Cheers BE, will certainly be going for that as i do have Sky HD and often are away from the house for a few days. I'm always swearing and cursing when i realise that i have forgotten to record something.

I have to say, now owning my first iPhone in my lifetime what an unbelievable bit of kit it is. I cannot believe i have been missing out on so much in recent years. Certainly one of the best things i have ever purchased.

How do i get that if it as not an App on Itunes?

Finbar 08-09-2010 04:38 PM

It's a website so put tvcatchup in Google in your phone and go to it that way, you need to register but after that all free to air tv is there on your phone and the quality is amazing. Tried it on my pc and the quality was no where near as good!

andyocpfc 08-09-2010 05:01 PM

Bloody hell, i've just done it. It's amazing. How do you control your Sky from it though?

Finbar 08-09-2010 05:03 PM

Sorry Andy, two very different things.

Mine was a slingbox which is very different, catchuptv can only do free to air. Slingbox requires a lot more investment to get it up and running (time and money!)

EagleSE24 08-09-2010 05:18 PM

Does slingbox totally mess up your monthly download totals?

Finbar 09-09-2010 07:18 AM

Having only had my iphone a month I'll tell you on Monday when I can see exactly how much I've used each day this week, have been watching it for about 5hrs I would guess and not gone over my fair use limit yet (1GB with 3 I think)

I've just downloaded the Sky App - free to download and can look up tv listings and set to record my Sky box once you have registered. Amazing! :lux:

kettle 09-09-2010 04:00 PM

got to get flick football as well - amazingly addictive. 59p, worth every penny.

andyocpfc 09-09-2010 04:32 PM

What is the best playable football game to download in peoples opinion?

BulletEagle 09-09-2010 10:21 PM

Flick Football, Andy.

FIFA 10 is appalling, I found FM poor in detail and realism and those are the main 3.

kettle 09-09-2010 10:45 PM

flick football is a great football free kick game. they update it fairly regularly too - so peoples ideas always get added. for 59p you cant go wrong!
If you want to play a full football game, try x2 football - 2009 or 2010. It is 2.99 / 3.99.

keithywonder 12-09-2010 10:38 PM

I have downloaded tvcatchup, however it says I need adobe, which apple doesn't support. Any ideas mates

Blind_Eagle 14-09-2010 08:19 AM

You need to download iPhone/tvcatchup, not the standard tvcatchup.

Seriously impressive! You must have some patience.

montstar 14-09-2010 01:53 PM

Oh and anyone that doesnt have words with friends is missing out!

cant recommend it highly enough have been playing up to 7 friends at once and am regularly playing friends from all over! and the free messaging bit is a definite plus!

Highbury Eagle 14-09-2010 10:13 PM

Monkey Island 2 is now 59p, bargain!

andyocpfc 14-09-2010 11:01 PM

One question if you please. I've got an App for Sky sports, the Football league (CPFC), ESPN and the BBC. Tonight is the first time i have used it whilst a Palace game being on to update me on the commentary. All seemed very poor, slow and WELL behind the playing time. Does anyone use an App for latest football scores that they can recommend? TIA

Conger 21-10-2010 05:36 PM

They've only gone and released a Halloween version of Angry Birds!!

Thats a few hours written off then....

Unfortunately you have to pay 59p, but hey, I'm sure it'll be good value as normal!

Adlerhorst 22-10-2010 07:53 AM

Cut the rope, like a cross between angry birds and cat physics.

Superb.

Probably the most addictive game I have played in a long time.

thehound 27-10-2010 01:57 PM

I bought a few apps today, angry birds, cut the rope etc. but they won't sync. I have a ipod touch. Does anyone else have this problem?

BulletEagle 28-10-2010 10:45 AM

Slice it is annoyingly addictive

AJ's right boot 29-10-2010 10:20 AM

As posted on the other thread.... But the VLC media app has changed my life! Ha ha. Can now play my AVIs on my iPhone with out needing to spend hours and hours converting them! Awesome.

pardew's shorts 05-11-2010 10:41 PM

NHL 2K11 is a very good game, and only 59p. Ronnie O'Sullivan snooker is decent too - picked that up whilst it was free.

Currently downloading Pro Evo 2011, the latest Sonic and ChuChu Rocket! (Sega are doing a good job of getting some classics on the iPhone; I'd love to see Road Rash and Sensible Soccer, amongst others).

Edit: just remembered Road Rash was EA. But still, think it would translate well to the iPhone (also Theme Park would be great. I'm rambling now).

Timewheel, best free app ever!

Shows the music charts on any date you give it, able to listen to a clip of the song and even buy it. Very user friendly.

Steve in Phoenix 06-12-2010 06:04 PM

RedLaser - pretty handy for Xmas shopping. See something that might be a good present, scan the barcode and it immediately tells you where the cheapest place to get it is. Later you can look at your scans if you want to think about it. I think it might be iphone4 only tho?

Accuweather seems the best weather app I've found.

Recently downloaded the Twitter app as its very useful for travel updates - coming from people right at the train stations or bus routes.

Try Weather Pro. It really is the best one I've found. Met Office is free, if you aren't looking to pay, or Outside if you want something simple and fun (it has a paid for extra where it will remind you each morning if you need a coat, an umbrella, or sun screen during the day)

Yeah I usually opt for the free apps where possible. :) I tried Met Office but it seems a bit slow though. Accuweather loads faster and I find it more useful - gives you both the temperature and also what it actually feels like. Can tab between Current, Hour-by-hour, or 15 Day forecasts and also scroll between locations (quite useful when you are travelling somewhere).

Yeah obviously limited to the stores it searches, it's not going to beat a human search. What I love is that it immediately gives you an idea if the price quoted is reasonable plus it stores it for later reference. So its easy to look at the list of scanned items later and google yourself.

For example its perfect in airport stores where the markup is huge. I found a phone case there I'd been looking for ages, scanned and found it was half the price. I hadnt been able to find it anywhere but now I can stroll to the nearest store identified and get that.

Accuweather's more than good enough for me as its free - I wouldnt pay for weather forecasts off the TV so not going to on the phone :) I think Accuweather is the best free one.

Tunein Radio app, 59p, lets you record, pause and access old shows, works brilliantly

CPFC Cheerleader Observer 14-01-2011 09:14 AM

VLC lets you add movies directly to your iphone through the APP tab of iTunes.

The issue seems to be that Applidium who wrote the app claim they had approval from the VideoLAN association who created VLC to produce the iOS app but there are license issues which Apple cannot resolve.

Shame as its such an easy way to add and watch films on your iOS device.
