Also forgot that Jim Cannon was available for transfer - anyone remember why?

Maybe he was on high wages from league 1 days

Remember how Lovell and us fans celebrated that goal at Wrexham got pictures from that season somewhere in loft can't remember the kit tho at a guess I would say the blue with red stripe

We did go a bit mental, having not won away for 18 months and after the gauntlet of angry Welshman we had to get through on the way from the station before the game, it was a special moment.

I always remember it well because Lovell jumped on the fence in front of us when he scored and I just got my hand away in time!!:D

He was working as a security Guard at my office in Kings Cross back in the late 80's

I’ve seen this one so many times now, but I’ll watch it again because that season was my first, I didn’t go to this game, but my first was a couple of months later.

It always seems funny now seeing El Tel actually playing in the red and blue rather than being our manager

To be fair, he had one heck of a job replacing King Kenny

Yep. Different times indeed.

Billy Rhino 24-09-2022 02:15 PM

Bizarre, was a very good goal though.

Peter Taylor's crossing was superb. Overall defending and fitness levels were so poor compared to these days.

Watching this weekend was a reminder of how different those times were - when people like Harry Cripps and Mike Bailey could make it as professional footballers.

It was also a reminder of just how awful the standard of tactics were, it really was just lump it up front asap, and that was with big mal as manager who was a progressive manager, and yet we would attend week after week, mental.

Can you imagine the prima donnas of today trying to play on that pitch

Gooders 25-09-2022 04:52 PM

Loved Brian Moore's interview with Big Mal.

Mal: "I was talking to Bertie Mee and if anyone knows about injuries he does - he says we should just leave the injured player lying on the pitch and play on - he'll soon get up when he realises the match is continuing".

This was after a pretty nasty clash of heads!

The more I watch the old games, the more my rose tinted glasses fade.

Didn't they show that one a few months back? Is it the one we lost 0-1, to a late Clive Allen goal?

Or am I getting two matches confused?

wrightchipvcfc 05-10-2022 10:05 PM

Think there all repeated over and over again the charlton game had been on few times

He posted here once, ironically looking for old footage from the early 80's when he would have been playing ...

Thanks Elwiss

I will avoid using the word "r*de". But bit of a pity he didn't respond to any of the posts

Stephen leahy
