I always remember it well because Lovell jumped on the fence in front of us when he scored and I just got my hand away in time!!:D |

It always seems funny now seeing El Tel actually playing in the red and blue rather than being our manager |

Bizarre, was a very good goal though.
Peter Taylor's crossing was superb. Overall defending and fitness levels were so poor compared to these days. |
Watching this weekend was a reminder of how different those times were - when people like Harry Cripps and Mike Bailey could make it as professional footballers.
|
It was also a reminder of just how awful the standard of tactics were, it really was just lump it up front asap, and that was with big mal as manager who was a progressive manager, and yet we would attend week after week, mental.

Loved Brian Moore's interview with Big Mal.
Mal: "I was talking to Bertie Mee and if anyone knows about injuries he does - he says we should just leave the injured player lying on the pitch and play on - he'll soon get up when he realises the match is continuing". This was after a pretty nasty clash of heads! The more I watch the old games, the more my rose tinted glasses fade. |
