So I have an iPhone in my possession with a 3G O2 Simplicity sim card all ready to go. Put the sim card in, having restored the phone, open iTunes. Now I am confronted with a message saying 'Waiting for activation. This may take some time'. Earlier I must have waited for about 4 hours. How long is this going to take??!! Is something wrong? The phone I have is second hand, might that be the issue?

could be anything up to 24 hours....

Dave 08-01-2009 12:11 AM

who is using twitter on the Iphone?

Dave 08-01-2009 11:39 PM

You have connected it to iTunes - right?

knowlesyUCLA 08-01-2009 11:51 PM

yeah its connected. sim card installed and left with 'No service' where the reception should be. I definitely have a 3G sim and that, so should be working. What else to do?

Dave 08-01-2009 11:53 PM

Call 02

knowlesyUCLA 08-01-2009 11:54 PM

Will do at some point, maybe take it in. Cheers Dave.

My Jesus phone is the first casualty of this trip to Ireland. :( The screen lost a battle with the local granite and is smashed to fek.

She still works mind, just a very sad sight to behold.

FRING allows you to use Skype (including Skype out) when you have a WiFi connection - and the Skype messenger service works fine over 3g and edge. That's good enough for me - with Skype Lite, it seems as if you would have to pay for a local call using the service. What's the point of that, unless you make loads of International Call? As the reviewer points out:

Remarkably Skype has managed to spin this into a feature: "Call on Skype wherever you are - no WiFi or 3G required", as though the ability to make phone calls over the phone network were something new...
No thanks.

Fring doesn't actually allow you to text chat with other skype users unless they are logged into fring, does it?

Dave 09-01-2009 10:22 PM

And there is the whole issue of giving a third party your Skype login

I seem to be able to text chat with my colleagues who are using normal skype on their desktops/laptops from Fring ok.

Of course it does!

My sister lives in Bangkok and uses Skype on her PC. She has never heard of Fring. I am able to talk to her (voice when using my wireless home network - text by Edge/3g) when she is logged into Skype.

Why don't you try it and see?

My new baby turned up this morning and I am pleased to confirm that restoring all my old data and setting transferred across as smoothly as you could possibly hope for.

Interestingly the battery life appears infinately better than my old handset (on it since it arrived and still a full green bar) my sticky text delete key problem also appears to have gone away.

Happy me. :)
