I suppose even at that young age, when we lose it’s easily erased from the memory banks, I know I was there because that was the first of a few seasons where I didn’t miss a single home game.
I probably didn’t even realise the ref had copped one in the crown Jewell’s because I would’ve been just about peering over the fence at the front of the new stand and it was over in the far corner

Only 3 players in Southampton's team that afternoon survived from their FA Cup winning line-up of just 17 months earlier; PEACH, HOLMES and OSGOOD.

I'm not sure why there had been such a large turnover in personnel in such a short period of time. Of the cup-winning line-up, only Mick Channon seemed to go on to better things with a spell at Maine Road before returning to The Dell. The rest either dropped down to the lower divisions with a few going to America. Mel Blyth of course turned up back at Palace on loan a couple of weeks later.

All-in-all, that was a pretty ropey cup-winning line-up. What could have been ...

Only just re-watched this.
By today's refereeing standards, Southampton would have been lucky to finish with 8 players:D

I also think i was at the game : Peach with a shocking tackle on Vince if i remember well. Peach possibly the dirtiest player i have ever seen - and that Saints team really were shocking.EEEEEEEEEEEEEagles

I think you could say that about every game back in the 70’s….those were the days :D

There is a Saint and Greavesie FA Cup special on this week in its place.
Presumably back the week after.

Chelsea v Forest this week…Chelsea‘a front pair was Trevor Aylott and Tommy Langley! Aylott scored the winner!

Other Palace links…Charlie Cooke, Micky Droy, Steve Wicks, Ray Wilkins and Ray Lewington (sub).

It seemed to go downhill at Chelsea from that game and interview with Brian Moore.

I haven’t seen it yet, but wasn’t that game Aylott’s debut? I actually remember it first time round I think

He played a part in the game the week before (think they said Norwich) judging by the interview.

Yes I’ve seen it now, he did play the week before and scored, Norwich and Forest in his first two games were his only two goals for Chelsea, I think Barnsley had his ‘best’ years

Palace haven’t been on for a couple of weeks, what’s going on?

I think Brian Moore did have a soft spot for the spammers back then, if he had any say in who was on
