Interesting, albeit messy, read.

Is there a BBS app yet ..?

Isle of Wight 15-11-2011 08:58 PM

Yep it's called placing a link on your home screen :-)

Star Walk, for the geek novice astronomers out there. I imagine good to teach kids. If you are using on your iPhone with location services on, point camera towards a clear night sky, and it will tell what star is what or planet or galaxy.

The 12 days of Christmas App 2011 has just sent me a push to say theres a gift today. I opened it and it was a free one called soundhound but for anyone that doesn't already have it, its well worth downloading.

Its basically the same as Shazam where by if you hear a song that you like but you don't know what it is, open the app, tap the main button and it will analysis the music and tell you what is it.

Then why have it over Shazam which is free?

I've personally had better results with Soundhound. I have both on my phone and have tested them both with some fairly obscure stuff and for me SH seems better on the less commercially known stuff.

Soundhound is free as well.

Personally I've found Shazam to be more accurate as it happens. Soundhound failed on four tracks in the pub last night all of which Shazam correctly identified.

AJ's right boot 17-12-2011 09:59 AM

Grand theft auto is out now :)

Skid Row 19-12-2011 01:58 AM

Temple Run is pretty good. Is free too.

Baloo 19-12-2011 09:48 AM

I think Soundhound also allows you to sing a song to it and it will try to identify it. Mixed results so far with my singing abilities!

Neil 19-12-2011 09:52 AM

Is Bloom.fm out yet? Have been beta testing it for the last couple of weeks.

Nice little music app.

Sorry, I presumed as it was on the 12 days of Christmas thing you usually have to pay for it.

I've found Shazam to be pretty good, tested it on what was to me some pretty obscure music, including Marks & Spencer music which had lyrics, and also on some background instrumental music in a Radisson hotel bar. Whether they are correct is a different matter.

I'm confused now, all the downloaded '12 days of christmas' content is free. or at least it has been up till now IIRC.

Me too now, I thought that usually you would have to pay for the apps that are appearing as part of the 12 days of Christmas, but as a christmas present apple are giving them away free.

James 19-12-2011 12:14 PM

In previous years, the 12 days items were 'gifts' and I have no doubt that they will be this year too.

Cover Orange - FREE for one day only.

Seriously everyone - grab this while you can. It is the best game for the iPhone after Angry Birds.

James 13-01-2012 07:12 AM

Still free! Grab it quickly!

IW_Eagle 13-01-2012 07:35 AM

I got it free in Australia. Cheers

andyocpfc 13-01-2012 08:20 AM

Just downloading CO now.

Neil 13-01-2012 09:00 AM

By the looks of the shots, I'd want to punch that game square in the gut.

Angry Birds may be the most popular, but it is nowhere near the best.

andyocpfc 13-01-2012 09:03 AM

How does one suddenly see that these apps are free or on special offer? Is there a daily release of apps via a news letter or something?

Appshopper is quite good fit seeing what apps are reduced are free

James 15-01-2012 07:48 AM

Another decent game is free today - Crossfingers.

This is really worth downloading. It's a clever and challenging game with dozens of levels.

It works best in HD on the iPad, but is perfectly playable on the iPhone.

James 19-01-2012 06:54 AM

Monopoly is down from about £7 to just 69p today. This is a very good representation of the original (UK version, and multi-play available).

Also, FIFA Soccer 12 (the latest version) is also available for the same price today.

Yes, my best is about 1.8m, but beware there is a cheat where you can get an endless score so dont neccessarily believe people who claim to have high scores of 20m etc.

James 13-02-2012 10:17 AM

There is a free Atlas HD knocking about for iPad - really worthwhile.

- Maps (several views i.e - Political and Time Zone)
- Weather
- 100 World 'Wonders' with descriptions

I can't remember every feature, but it is a decent app.

EDIT - it is called 'World Atlas for iPad' but appears to be priced at £1.49 now.

suits_you 13-02-2012 12:26 PM

I got one the other day, that can take a heart rate.

It uses the camera and the light (4s only I'm afraid) to detect a heart rate in your finger tip.

Weather - Don't know, normally just use the Apple Weather function.
Sport - Sky Sports Football, ESPN Goals
TV - Got Sky + and Sky Go. Dont use it much as I don't have unlimited data.
Photography - Instagram, Colorsplash and PicFrame
Games - Temple Run
Vouchers - Voucher Cloud, Vouchercodes and if on o2, o2 moments.
Educational - Star Walk

That should keep you busy for a bit.

Heb 7:4 28-02-2012 05:26 PM

Weather - WeatherPro. Not the nicest looking, but excellent. If you want a free one try Met Office
Sport - ECB Cricket, Sky Sports Football, ESPN (RTE GAA if that's your cup of tea!)
TV - TVCatchup, AVPlayer or Aceplayer, Air Video, ITV Player, iPlayer, 4OD, TV Guide, Media Burner
Torch - I use flashlight. Imagine they are all the same, just turns the light on the back on after all

James 28-02-2012 06:32 PM

Tunein radio is the first App I would install. Listen to and record live Radio (and 'listen again') - including all the usual UK stations and a thousands of specialist stations from around the World (I listen to Beatles Radio quite a lot, for example).

Adlerhorst 28-02-2012 07:46 PM

Sport. You like baseball? Even if you don't, get MLB at bat, 2012 version out tomorrow. Will be lots, worth every penny. Best sports app out there.

I get it for free. Huzzah.

EDIT - turns out everyone gets the basic app for free. Enhanced content will be at extra cost (which i get for free).

Highbury Eagle 29-02-2012 09:06 PM

It's more free than it was last year. Then you had to pay the subcription and another £9 for the app for each mobile platform you had it on. Now I don't have to pay for the app, and I have always had the premium subscription for MLB.tv. That's free in my world.

Also this year people can pay £10.50 and get 180 odd live games. I pay £80 and get a few thousand.

Still it remains comfortably the best sports app out there.

I would get it if we had decent broadband - but at just under 1 meg, it probably wouldn't work very well. Does the At Bat App work on 3g?

With the premium subscription, can you choose any game that's being played - for example could I watch all the Blue Jays games during the season? Many years ago, I used to get one of the BJ's games each week sent to me on VHS.

Any issues with the App on a jailbroken device?

Adlerhorst 01-03-2012 09:04 AM

Never tried it on 3G due to data limits but just swapped to 3 so will let you know.

And yes, any game at all. In HD.

You also get any game with the normal MLB.tv subscription (which is a little bit less than premium) but you have to pay for the app then as well.

MP3 (320kb)
Apple Lossless
FLAC

Want to put it in ITunes

Which should I go for?

Adlerhorst 08-07-2012 02:15 PM

It depends what you use it for. All mine is apple lossless but then I stream music round the house on some decent kit. If it is just for iPod and will only ever be for the iPod I would go for the 320.

Apple lossless, for archive.

320 mp3 for playing and Ipod.

If its bandcamp you can download all formats once you've paid.

FLAC is actually the smallest lossless format but Itunes won't touch it.

Morning all. I have just got a new Iphone but I am rubbish with technology! I have some internet allowance on the phone but it also connects to peoples wifi when I have the code. However, how can I tell if it using the wifi or the data allowance that comes with the phone as I am a bit concerned out getting a massive bill for constantly being connected to the data usage without knowing!! Cheers.

If you see this next to your network name then you're using wifi and not your data allowance :p
