Doubt it, Wrexham wore red didn't they?

Oh yeah, of course! :clown: (me, not you!)

So where, around that time, did we wear that horrible red away shirt? Grimsby? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone? Anyone?

Assuming we were still wearing the white sash, then places like Grimsby, Fulham, Derby would be favourite?

No, I went to derby away and we wore that kit. We wore the sky blue with red sash at Wrexham and Steve Lovell scored the winner, which has always stuck in my memory because it was our first away win for 18 months.

Definitely Derby, because I was there, my one and only trip to the old baseball ground, I think this would’ve been 82-83 season 1-1 or 1-0 defeat, can’t remember now

Ha, cheers monkey. I'm sure (well, as sure as I can be with a foggy memory of 40 years ago) we also won 1-0 in that kit away somewhere. I'd have to dig out some old programmes & see if I can identify that game. Shouldn't take me long, we didn't win away much in those days :p

We certainly didn’t win many, which was a shame because it was my best era for travelling away, I didn’t miss many. We seemed to lose plenty 1-0 I know that. :wallbash:

You could be right about winning in that kit somewhere though, possibly Leicester? Mabbutt scored the winner, I know I was there, but not 100% sure it was that kit

I might be very badly misremembering this (and I wasn't even at the game), but didn't we wear the plain red shirt and black shorts away at Peterborough one evening?

Our away record when we wore the adidas sash as abysmal which is why I fail to understand the fond nostalgia that a lot of people seem to have for the sky blue shirt with red sash. Notwithstanding the fact that it looked horrible, I'm pretty sure we never won a match wearing it. We've discussed this before and I think the only possibility we could come up with was a league cup win at Bolton.

I'm not sure that's the case. It's pretty cool, IMHO.

I loved the kit to be honest despite our terrible away record at that time. I think it’s the memory of winning at Wrexham wearing it that helps.

I’m sure we wore it at orient away on a Sunday morning 0-0 draw a few days after we beat them in the cup wearing red and blue, which was strange

Remember how Lovell and us fans celebrated that goal at Wrexham got pictures from that season somewhere in loft can't remember the kit tho at a guess I would say the blue with red stripe

I wasn't there but if we played a side wearing dark shirts and white shorts we routinely wore the white sash shirt with blue shorts. There's a win a Grimsby that's a definite maybe, but as already stated our away support numbered in the dozens in those days so eye witnesses will be pretty thin on the ground.

But I still find the nostalgia for a kit that we barely mustered a couple of points in perplexing.

Remember we had a special train that day Chris p and Gildo times must have been a few hundred of us on it would have been a coach or two as well

Bolton at LB? Do they mean David Boulter?

Boulter - looked a decent player for a while, then completely faded away.

Just see a game at charlton that season same colours as Wrexham and your right they wore the white top and blue shorts didn't remember jerry Murphy getting sent off that day at charlton

Carlise Few 24-05-2022 08:42 AM
