Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Arsenal are in complete disarray. They probably would sell to fund some big name transfers - AMN is evidently not fully trusted by Arteta. Would be great for us: right back cover, right wing cover and can play centre mid. If we are interested that is.

olly cromwell 14-12-2020 05:55 PM

I don't know if he fancies playing for relegation strugglers.....so that gives us a chance of getting him :D

If I was AMN I would not entertain any kind of move away from Arsenal for the forseeable future - the manager is under pressure and might not last much longer.

Agree . Think AWN will be there a bit longer than Arteta.

Would prefer Joe Willock for a bit of central midfield creativity.

Good. I’d take Arteta in a heartbeat, and for that to happen Arsenal need to lose patience and sack him.

There’s nothing wrong with AMN. I’d just prefer Arteta for a long term Hodgson replacement.

TheCharmer1 15-12-2020 07:55 AM

I think we need a specialist couple of cm's as a matter of urgency, not a utility player

Why would you take him? If he's got arsenal on the brink of the drop zone we'd be rock bottom

All part of his learning curve, Arteta will be a good manager for someone eventually. I'd love Arteta at Palace. However I expect Arsenal to stick with him for as long as possible. Here's hoping for a Southampton win this evening ;) :p

David of Kent 06-01-2021 10:37 AM

I'd be interested in him more now Schlupp is sidelined for 3 months. Could cover both wide midfield positions and can play centrally and at full back. Would be ideal to have on loan and I've read they're interested in loaning him out, however if Atletico Madrid (or other bigger clubs than us) come after him as rumoured then it'd be doubtful unless he wants to stay in England

Jim Cannon 06-01-2021 10:38 AM

I imagine he wants to stay at Arsenal.

23 and started 4 games in the EPL this season. Reported in Daily Mail and The Athletic that he's frustrated at lack of game time. Don't think a loan would be out of the question at all

I'm kind of split on this, developing Arsenals players should not be our long term goal however Schlupp is out for a while and he could provide cover.
Clubs (inc. us) are going to struggle financially over the next year, so we have two options IMO i) loan players and plug gaps or ii) look for bargains and snaffle players off other teams, to develop into our own. There is a iii) which would be a combo of both. With some big earners looking to exit at the end of the season i think we have enough of a base to by 1-2 first teamers and then look to supplement with some bargains from around the globe and take a chance.

GB2506 06-01-2021 11:46 AM

Very good player and would improve us immensely. He was superb at the end of last season and started in the cup final putting in a great performance. From that he was promised more game time by Arteta as Wolves were close to signing him but he decided to stay off the back of Arteta’s promise. It hasn’t materialised.

Summed up perfectly, and if a fee of around 15m can be agreed for the summer when wholesome changes will happen, would make him an ideal signing as he is a very versatile player.

Only if permanent transfer option agreed. There are some players Iíd like on loan who would just be happy to have here, like Greenwood who isnít getting much playing time at Man Utd. AMN doesnít fall into that category, as I think thereís a serious chance we could buy him and I wouldnít want the fee to go up if he were to come and do well here.

Gregz41 06-01-2021 02:58 PM

He’s a tidy footballer, but I don’t know what he’d add to the team. Is he skilful and creative enough to be the upgrade on Townsend? Can he play CM? Do we really need him with so many RB options.

I've never seen him play there. I've only ever seen him at RB or as a wingback for Arsenal. Very composed on the ball, but I haven't seen much in the way of creativity, goals, passing range etc. I don't think we're blessed with our current CM options either, but I'm not convinced Maitland-Niles would improve things that much.

I'd like him with a £25m transfer option agreed. Would play him right back until Nathan Ferguson is ready and then pop him into right midfield. Then centre mid next season under the new manager.

LuieJack 29-01-2021 12:06 PM

I would classify him more as a solid rather than "exciting" player (like Gray) which is probably more in keeping with our style and an ideal rplacement for Townsend. Would i like him at the Palace? yes, but it would need to be initially a loan until seasons end with an agreement to buy in the summer and at a sensible fee of say 15m.

You donít get a 23 year old, England international, who has plenty of contract to run for £15m.

The more I think about it the better this appears. Someone who wants to play central, young, mobile, can pass and can easily play right midfield and at a push cover right back if really needed.

Loan would be great, maybe with option to buy, which unfortunately would come at a price as several have mentioned above.

With the very slim chance that it was us, interesting choice for him - scrapping for points at the bottom of the table with Big Sam kick and run, or trying to push Palace up the table under a passing based manager.

Arsenal are having a laugh now, especially when you consider he isn't good enough for their currently substandard team. They should remember they have had some right shit players over the past few years they tried to get cash for, remember when they wanted 16M for Chambers

Judging a player on a loan at a side doomed to relegation? Good job we didn’t take a similar view with Wilf having seen him at Cardiff.

It's possible he didn't realise he was assessing the player for a formation that has been changed to accommodate the philosophy of a new manager he didn't know was being appointed
