Sadly, I can’t rep that post, but it really deserves it!

Of course, when I get extra miffed and mention that the answer is NO because she never finishes a life project, then we have the moody bollocks for a week.

Surely, that should read "chicken coupe" ;)

Indeed.

However, your car was great when you did your recent Australian roadtrips, no?

Oh yes, empty roads abounded though. It's City driving and commuting I dislike. Enjoyed our road trip even more when my wife was driving, which meant I could take in the scenery in a relaxed mode. We could be on another at the end of April hopefully.

Pet Parents is the biggest one for me. Every single pet product marketer is using these shitty phrases.

Perfectly understandable. Companies who play on the weird way people become way too attached to their domesticated animals.

I do sometimes wonder if the girl at work who constantly bangs on about her "fur baby" (a pitbull/mastiff x) has a supply of peanut butter in her bedside table.

Or just calling their pets "babies". They are not babies, they are pets

I know it's a serious matter but the ABC reffering to Turkey as Turkyiae. If your doing that why not talk about Leopard tanks from Deutschland or Macron living in Paree, PCGM.

I heard a good programme once on R4 about the history of the BBC Pronunciation Unit and the various issues it's faced, it was great on place names. Apparently they kept trying to establish consistent general rules for these so that they could just let producers get on with things rather than keep having to adjudicate but it didn't work. They decided to pivot from "Paris" (pronounced the English way) and just go for English pronunciations across the board for French cities but the newsreaders revolted at having to say "Nice" rather than "Neece" and so they ended up with inconsistent ad hoc chaos.

I have a sneaky feeling that Turkey themselves are looking for a name change.

They don't like having the same name as anglo festive meat.

I agree with you entirely, but I fear we don't have much control of these things. Eventually they get their way, and it is just easier to relent at the beginning and save ourselves the grief.

My wife has wanted a car for more than a decade. Mostly because her siblings all have them. She can't drive, I can't drive, and none of our three mid 30s kids can either.

I said I will buy a car when she passes her driving test, she reckons that I should get the car first so she can practice. And that is where we have been at for all this time. Chicken and egg. Actually that is spot on, because if I relent the vehicle will convert into a chicken coup. That's my best guess.

Of course, when I get extra miffed and mention that the answer is NO because she never finishes a life project, then we have the moody bollocks for a week.

You can take it with what you want matey, no way does she touch the car and I am hiding the damn thing before it happens....and am prepared for the fallout.

I have already told the daughter and her mother that, at the first sign of dissent and posturing tantrums whilst trying to help with the theory test, I'm off.

Tossers who occupy equipment at the gym while texting / surfing / Instragramming on their phones, who then take the moral high road when you ask them to either relinquish the machine or actually use it. They then insist they are 'mid-set' before carrying on with their phones. Violence comes to mind.

Yeah, it's the same as Cape Verde, Upper Volta, Swaziland, Persia, Siam &c. so not really an issue. Burma is probably a bit more controversial but since Myanmar is the official name it's probably best to stick with the latter if you're being diplomatic.
