Just got my 3G version and, much to my amazement, a strong 3G signal in my house.

GodstoneEagle 17-07-2008 12:51 PM

nice one -try it on the move at report back

How did you transfer accounts etc?

Blind_Eagle 17-07-2008 01:52 PM

I connected it to iTunes and it asked if I wanted to restore my settings. I said yes and it took about ten minutes to transfer all my old settings, contacts, applications, music and everything else basically. Was very impressed TBH.

Will try the 3G service shortly and let you know.

But - the sim will have the wrong number?

Swanny32 17-07-2008 03:15 PM

Anyone with a 3G iphone might want to take a look on ebay! They are going for about £650

KingsleY 17-07-2008 03:28 PM

But that would defeat the purpose of them buying the iPhone!

Swanny32 17-07-2008 03:42 PM

But it would probably clear some debts! Which by the sounds of it you are going to have fairly soon!

KingsleY 17-07-2008 03:48 PM

Yeh....But you'd be stuck with the contract still!

Yeah....stupid TV urges..hmppph...
See PM!

No, they tell you to just put your existing sim into the new handset.

It was simplicity itself, honest.

Dave 17-07-2008 05:04 PM

OK Cool - never taken my sim out yet

Blind_Eagle 17-07-2008 05:31 PM

They provide a special tool to facilitate the sim card removal but a paperclip works just as well. :D

The 2.0 Unlock for the original Iphone is nearing closer.
Is it sad that i've even downloaded Mac for my PC just so I can unlock my iphone on 2.0?!

Ok just got back from trying it out over 3G and its okish. It actually didn't seem that much faster - certainly not the quoted 2.4x quicker - a bit of a disappointment to be honest.

I then tried it where there was only a weak 3G signal and this threw up an issue. Eventually it lost the 3G signal and it certainly isn't the seamless transfer promised. The iPhone reports back that it has lost the server and you then have to reload the page via Edge. If it then senses a 3G signal it tries that, finds that the signal is insufficient and so once agiain tells you that it has lost the server, so you have to re-load the page via Edge. I had to move to a different location before it would decide which service to use.

Overall, I came back wondering why I bothered to upgrade as improved performance was my main aim and I didn't really seem to get it.

Another point, it eats the battery. :(

just got my first iPhone and am loving it so far. Been quite lucky with my 3g signal so far. Just need to get used to the typing
