You will have to activate it via iTunes and from your confidence I guess you have never done this with an iPhone before. Add that to the fact tha '000s of others will be trying to do it on the same day and i'm with Dave, this will be frustrating.

Before Activating

Once you've got your new iPhone 3G, you'll need to connect to iTunes to activate it.

1. Check your voicemail
Before you activate your iPhone 3G, make sure you listen to your current voicemails. If you're an existing O2 customer, activation will delete your existing voicemails. If you're transferring an existing number from another network operator, existing voicemails will not be transferred.

2. Transfer your contacts, music and photos
Before you activate, migrate your existing mobile contacts onto Outlook, Outlook Express on the PC, or Address Book or Entourage on the Mac.

To activate your iPhone 3G

Insert your current SIM card into your iPhone 3G using the SIM ejector tool found in your iPhone 3G box.

Connect your iPhone 3G to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac or PC (not on the keyboard) using the cable included in the box. iTunes opens automatically.

Follow the onscreen instructions in iTunes to activate iPhone 3G and sync your contacts, calendars, music, photos, podcasts, videos, email accounts, and web bookmarks.

Dammit. Thanks mate. Along with getting the details from Vodafone, it could be a frustrating day. Does that mean I'll be able to enter my PAC code in iTunes then?

They said they're sending it via post, but they're probably fobbing me off and the 'Customer Retentions Team' has already tried contacting me. I'll probably call them back tomorrow to try to get it.

Can't wait for iPhone browsing. :)

It's a dream browsing the web whilst on the bog. :)

Anyways, I can wait for the upgrade - seems o2 want to limit supply for upgrades anyway so they can go chasing new customers.

An O2 spokesperson has confirmed that the activation process for the iPhone 3G will be different from the original iPhone. Users will need to activate the phone in an Apple, O2, or Carphone Warehouse store, a process which should take about 15 minutes on average. Activation via iTunes will not be possible with the iPhone 3G. Because of that, you will not be able to buy an iPhone through the Web sites of either O2 or Apple.

That sucks

Stavros 69 08-07-2008 10:31 AM

So why does the O2 website tell you the following activation procedure?

That page has now changed... seems there has been some confusion over this. Click the link and you'll see the latest set of FAQs.
